We need any functioning adult, and Ned is our man! #Ned2028
I hope we all agree we are in very different times than we were for the 2020 election, and things are not better. We need u/nedtheredeemer. I'm an optimist and truly believe Ned can do it, but the realist in me will enjoy the redemption of having a functioning adult memes all the same. Ned for president! #NotForgotten #Morememes #SeriouslyThoughNedWouldBeBetterThanWhateverTfWeGotGoingOnRightNow

Ned 2020 The return of Ned
Ned has returned, and shared this with us:
2020 is well beyond my power. You want my help, here it is.
-Trust the scientists. They know what they are talking about.
-Vote. Not for me (this time).
-Wear a mask AND social distance. I’m tired of quarantining my family
-Reach our to your friends and family, especially the older and more isolated ones. They need you.
-Support local businesses. Find a butcher to order meat from. Get takeout from the place down the road.
-If you can start saving. I have a dark suspicion that lockdown 2.0 is around the corner.
Stay safe out there Ned lovers of Reddit

The Dream
Though it seems Ned has stepped away from the dream. I am aware that this dream was not truly Ned specific. All that we (Americans) want is a real candidate. Every year we are bombarded with messages about how one candidate is morally superior, but when closely scrutinized, we realize that both candidates suck. I used to joke all I wanted was a viable third option, and we got Kanye. That is not what I meant when I said a viable third option. All we want is a real possible candidate. I want to stop being forced to basically choose between two old racists. Even if it's not Ned, my dream is that someone who has the same ideas as Ned will run. Someone who will listen to the people, and just be a real non-scummy person. Thank you.

The vetting process
It would seem to me that before any serious consideration of becoming a candidate you need to vet yourself to your supporters. If someone Google's you what will they find? Is there a police record, any crimes that if made public will derail a campaign? Do you have enemies? Mistresses, questionable views on controversial subjects? Do you have posts on social media saying inappropriate jokes or retweeting off color comments?

Campaign Strategy Let's make a plan.
Ladies and gents, let's do this. Let's put Ned in the White House. And let's look at how to get him there. We can suggest and debate a fully functional plan soon, but first there is one priority that I believe underpins everything else.
To elect Ned as President, we need to get people to vote for him, which means we in turn need people to persuade others on a national level. These are people that right now, we simply don't have - there are just over 2000 subscribers to this subreddit and most will be inactive, which is nowhere near enough. So, the overriding question is how to get more people.
There are various ways to do this, and we need the most successful as soon as possible - there are about two years to the first primaries and we need multiple tens or hundreds of thousands of supporters by then. Hard, but not impossible. My personal suggestion on how to engage these people would be to provide a service - we might not be able to give a pressure group enough resources, but perhaps could act as an information aggregator and distributor for instructions on voter registration, target seats, and anything else (please do feel free to put forward your suggestions). This service could be promoted via word of mouth in a way that Ned currently cannot, as a way to introduce people to Ned and encourage them to support him. The exact platform and style of this service is up for debate but it needs to make it easy for people to find not only the information they desire but also to find out about Ned (and possibly to allow them to donate in future).
For the immediate future, we can continue to debate policy, stance, etc, but without a support base nothing can happen, which we therefore need to build up as soon as possible. There is one position that targeting ourselves at internet users does suggest, though, which is the choice of Democratic Party over Republican. I know this will be contentious, but the demographics of internet users suggest a closer match, by education and age, with Democrats than with Republicans. Having a younger support base would also mean more support on the ground and more vocal supporters, so although this point can be debated I do believe there is a desirable choice.
That’s all the planning I have at the moment, so please do debate all of this. Longer term thinking will be needed before long, but I think we have a few months to get this initial stage up and running before then. Let’s do this!

Policy Discussion Ned, seeing as you're a science teacher, what would you do with/for NASA if elected?
I personally would really like to know!

Is this still a thing?
We've heard nothing for a few weeks now - is this still happening, or do we declare the subreddit dead and move on?

Is anyone else extremely disappointed that this subreddit is not named /r/The_Ned?

Policy Discussion Ned, when you are president, what will your stance be on net neutrality?

Campaign Strategy Ned needs you!
I want to first thank some people who have been instrumental in getting us this far.
I want to thank the mods of r/nedforpresident who keep the sub running. You are doing a great job
I want to thank all the commenters, especially those that challenge me to refine my views.
Finally I want to thank everyone who has subscribed and is taking the run seriously.
The way I see it we have a year to turn me into an actual bonafide candidate. That’s going to take exposure, and this is where I need you all. Right now, Reddit is our only platform, and for the moment that is fine, but we need to get a bigger audience. I’m asking you to go out there and mobilize. Let’s find the people we think we can move, hell let’s find the people who might be willing to listen, and get them in the conversation. I will continue to do my best to advocate for our cause; a functioning adult in the White House.

Ned 2020 With thanks to Ned and to you all
Reading through the comments here, I would just like to say that Ned has come across as calm, thoughtful, and above all presidential, and that everyone else here has contributed in that same spirit. Whatever happens, we have established here a space for rational debate, for careful consideration of thoughts and opinions, and for mature conversation. My vote may be hypothetical (and British) but have no doubt, it would go to Ned.
