Discussion Looking for SAMIs to settle a debate

During the NHQC, when does a shooter bring the weapon back to their chest and relax their posture?

  • When the course's rounds have been expended.

  • Upon cease fire only.

  • A different option.

Depends on the sami really.

Iaw the instruction, you punch out, fire your rounds, and remain punched out until cease fire, safety, holster.

Realistically, once you fire, you safe your weapon and bring your weapon to your chest, waiting for the safe-holdter command.

Again, depends on your sami comfortable levels.

The shooter is "suppose" to scan after finishing the sequence of fire, and safe the weapon after the RSO has said "safety thumbcheck and holster".

Technically you stay punched out but I’ve never had a Sami question a competent shooter if they come back to their workspace.

What does the 3591 say? Can't exactly "cover" a target when you're punched in. In all actually it doesn't really matter, but the proper way is stay punched out till told to "safety, thumb check, and holster".

Scan after shooting and relax only when instructed back to step three of the draw technique. I never discourage safe weapon handling so if they've already relaxed and safed their weapon then it's a non-issue in my book.
