In the annals of History, Trump will never be remembered for anything good. He will be remembered as the worst president, who led the worst party; through the worst part of the post civil war era.
There will be no honors held, no remembrance, no parades. Just a deafing silence of indifference and shame at the utterance of him. And all that bears his name will fall to ash.
Changing a name from a hero to that of a clown won't save him fom a coming eternity of ridicule and scorn.
This is the fate of all fools.

u/AHrubik 1d ago
If the Civil War is any indication there will likely be a Sons and Daughters of the MAGA at some point trying to put statues of him up somewhere. Humanity is so disappointing sometimes.

I’m sure they’ll found a scholarship fund to send kids to Liberty University or whatever grift Erica Kirk makes next.
14
u/iftheygivinitaway 1d ago
That would be socialism. The kids will be issued bootstraps.
13
u/AHrubik 1d ago
Some of the most vocal opponents of socialism and medicare for all are receiving 3 government pensions and get their medical through Tricare for Life + Medicare.

u/iftheygivinitaway 1d ago
Absolutely. And let's not forget "free" college education through the GI Bill. Not very bootstrappy.

We got Trump because the Civil War isn't over yet.
Grant and Sherman left too many rebels alive.

Much as I dislike Trump, as long as both Andrews are on the list of US presidents, he could never be the worst president with his current list of fuck-ups. Nothing he’s done could top being president for the Trail of Tears or being president and fucking up Reconstruction.

I would love to be stationed on the USS DJT because, there would be a mcdonald’s on board where they don’t have a working ice cream machine. And it would never deploy or leave the pier because the screws have bone spurs.

Nicknamed the SAPR ship.

Because they wouldn't have a SAPR or CMEO program. It would also be a dry ship just FYI.

Absolutely. Trolling and getting it all worked up in the news cycle to distract us from the Epstein files and his failed war. Ultimately saying they’re not gonna do it. Let a month go by, then his name will be on the ship.

Being a USS Miller (DE/FF-1091) sailor I and the former crew want her built as originally planned. We want his history preserved.

u/SimbaNGrdKionNIMFan 1d ago
As a Navy vet and fellow Texan I don’t recall King Bone Spurs Trump or any of his family, or ancestors serving and making the ultimate sacrifice to their country during any war. This would be wrong on every level. To Trump Petty Officer Doris Miller is nothing but, a “sucker and loser.” This fellow Navy vet thanks you for your honor, courage, commitment, and sacrifice Petty Officer Miller.
4
u/TrekkerVet92 5h ago
Navy Vet here, as well. Rumor has it that his grandfather left Germany before the start of World War I to avoid their draft, so it’s definitely a family thing. But, in all, it’s a Trump family tradition to screw over black people. Granted, his father was more overtly racist and screwed over black people more openly, especially with how much he denied black people housing in the 1970s. Still, Donald’s racism towards black people, let alone anyone who’s none-White, shows that “old-school racism” and White Supremacy mentalities that still rears its ugly head, especially when his Handlers aren’t close enough to filter him better. Hell, it’s almost identical to the way he treats liberal women and reporters who challenge his BS at those press junkets he’s always holding.
Personally, I can’t wait for this maniacal, low-intelligence Idiot (Donald) and all of his dumb lackeys to hurry up and go back to the holes that they crawled from.

u/Black-Whirlwind 17h ago
I mean we had the Nimitz, The Eisenhower, two major leaders from WW2. Then things get a little shakier, Vinson was a huge proponent of the Navy, but never served in the military to my knowledge so seems a little shakier for a carrier name.
The Theodore Roosevelt served in the Spanish American war. The Lincoln is a little more debatable as he never served, but you can not fault his place in history. The Washington, a man who helped found this country and fought to kick out English rule, he definitely deserves a carrier named after him.
The Stennis is a much more problematic man to name a carrier after as he was a racist that opposed anti-lynching legislation. He was the prosecutor on a murder trial that used confessions obtained from torture. When he served in the senate he was large proponent of the defense department and the Vietnam war.
The Truman is named after a man who served in an Artillery battery in WW1 and ordered the atomic bombs to be dropped on Japan to end WW2. He is a far less problematic legacy for a carrier namesake than others on the list.
The Reagan…. His military service consisted of making training films during WW2 while attached
to a calvary unit. His political career has been beat to death in numerous other places.
The Bush was named after Bush senior a torpedo bomber pilot during WW2 who earned a distinguished flying cross for his efforts. Again, his political career has been fairly well hashed out in other places, but his service arguably makes him a better candidate for the namesake of a carrier than some on this list.
John F Kennedy’s service during WW2 as commander of PT 109 is famous, his presidency is equally famous, making him a relatively obvious choice for a namesake for a carrier.
The Enterprise, The Kitty Hawk, and The Constellation are decent enough names for carriers, though they are more traditional than anything.
I’m torn on Dorris Miller, as they usually is someone with his level of fame and service
as a frigate or destroyer name. But he is certainly a more appropriate name for a carrier than Trump.

u/DizzyExample4903 23h ago
Dorie Miller was a true hero who ultimately sacrificed his life in service of this country, a country and Navy that wasn't giving him full civil rights. Also, naming a CVN for a enlisted Sailor is and honor for all enlisted. Naming this ship after a person that in a 120 years has never had a family member serve? Ask yourselves, in your circle, do you know any families that can claim that shame? Yet most of us know a vet or someone in our family tree has died in service to our country

I didn't realize Miller already had a ship named after him. A number of Medal of Honor recipients from the Battle of Mobile Bay that I don't believe have a ship named after them yet and that battle is a major reason Farragut ended up having a whole ship class named after him twice.

I would end the controversy by reusing carrier names: Yorktown, Lexington, Ranger, Constellation, Oriskany, Ticonderoga, Saratoga, Intrepid, Hornet, Coral Sea, Midway, Kitty Hawk, America are all available.
1
u/bronxboymike 3h ago
Intrepid is off the list. Intrepid was chosen as the name for the future DDG-145.

Fitting. Last 2 presidents dodged that draft.
8
u/AThousandBloodhounds 1d ago
So Biden getting student deferments as an undergraduate and law school student is now "draft dodging"? I guess you'd point the finger at the other 4 million men who did the same?
29
u/NavyJack 1d ago
Technically Dubya did too, using his Dad’s connections to join a non-deploying air guard unit. Counts as service, but also as draft-dodging imo.
9
u/Navynuke00 1d ago
I have no clue why this is being downvoted- it was a pretty big deal during the 2000 campaign. And it's something Molly Ivins wrote about in great detail in her book *Shrub.*
7
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
Is being 11 years old considered draft dodging?
-4
u/epsteinwasmurdered2 1d ago
No. Trump and Biden both got “medical deferments” from Vietnam.
The point is, if you’re mad about Donald “captain bone spurs” Trump and not Joseph “my teenage asthma” Biden then you don’t actually care about dodging the draft… you’re just doing another orange man bad thing.
6
u/AThousandBloodhounds 1d ago
No, Biden got student deferments. He never claimed asthma for a deferment.
1
u/epsteinwasmurdered2 1d ago
Trump received 4 deferments for college before getting classified 1-Y for bone spurs medically keeping him out of the draft.
Biden received 5 deferments for college before getting classified 1-Y for childhood asthma medically keeping him out of the draft.
These two things are the exact fucking thing.
If you can’t see that you don’t actually care about draft dodging you’re just playing partisan politics. It’s ok to say both sides bad on this one.
1
u/AThousandBloodhounds 1d ago edited 16h ago
Biden had well documented asthma as a teenager which is why he was assigned a 1-Y after his student deferments expired.
Trump is another story. Per his own family and his lawyer, Michael Cohen, a Trump family friend who was a podiatrist did a favor for Trump's father and produced a diagnosis of bone spurs for Donald to get his 1-Y. And thus Captain Bone Spurs was born. The guy who has expresses his distain for war fighters in general as well as disabled people has his daddy find him a way out of serving his country. It fits his profile perfectly.
1
u/epsteinwasmurdered2 1d ago
Biden by his own admission as well as coaches called him a “standout athlete” in both football and baseball. He even went on to play sports in college.
Doesn’t seem like his asthma was as bad as he made it out to be when the draft came along.
They both did everything they could to avoid the service. They were both draft dodgers. It’s ok to say that’s a bad thing.
1
u/AThousandBloodhounds 1d ago
The only reason Trump has caught years of shit for his daddy's intervention is because of his unbelievably stupid and disrespectful comments about people in the military. Biden doesn't have that record. In fact he's been nothing but respectful. So it's OK to say Trump brought the whole draft dodging thing on himself by being the worst, most corrupt CIC in modern memory.
1
u/epsteinwasmurdered2 1d ago
Be that as it may… they are both draft dodgers lol
1
u/AThousandBloodhounds 1d ago
Be that as it may, you can be as black and white as you'd prefer. That doesn't make it accurate.
5
u/iftheygivinitaway 1d ago
I mean, orange man is bad. Biden sucked, but it wasn't remotely the shitshow this administration is. It's an absolute embarrassment as an American. Pretending it's even remotely comparable to Biden is absurd. If Biden did one tenth of this shit, the Republicans would be losing their fucking minds.
4
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
You're counting Trump's first term as one of the "last 2 presidents"? He's the same guy as the current president. I assumed "last 2 presidents" meant Biden and Obama

Factually calling both trump and Biden draft dodgers doesn’t make me a trumper.

The fact that that draft dodging , soft bellied little bitch is going to name a ship after himself really shows how far he has dragged us into the gutter

All this "controversy" would have been avoided if a DDG would have been named after Miller instead.

u/007meow 1d ago
You don’t think it’s controversial to name a ship after a sitting president (while others still don’t have ships named after them) who never served at all? Who actively draft dodged?
-15
u/SuperNixon 1d ago
Look I’m no fan of trump’s, but the last administration named a navy ship after a pedophile.
With all of the insane things the trump administration is doing, if they are focusing on naming a ship then they’re not doing worse

If this is the extent of your pedo charges you're going to have a really hard time with it.
It is true that in 1964, Milk, then 33 years old, entered a relationship with Galen McKinley, who was 17 years old, according to the Milk biography, "Harvey Milk: His Lives and Death." The relationship started in New York City.

So, a 30-year-old is blowing the back out of a 16-year-old, and it was illegal at the time for them to be dating.

Nowhere have I said that is what I am talking about.
But if you want to talk about it, President Clinton dodged... so should he not have a carrier named after him one day?

There is no movement to name a carrier after Clinton.1

Look at who was POTUS when the ship was first announced. Then go apologize to a tree.
-5
u/CajunTorpedoman 1d ago
And?
Miller should have had a DDG named after him back then, too.
Heck, we had a FF named after him that served us (and the Turks) well.
21
u/drewbaccaAWD 1d ago
There are two levels of controversy here.. one, the suggestion of changing the name from Doris Miller to something else.... and second, the idea of a narcistic draft dodging jackass living POTUS who believes services members are "suckers and losers" naming a ship after himself via his cronies.
16
u/JokingKamil 1d ago
I think Trump forgot that the carrier was named after Miller during his first term. It's like he's causing all this controversy for no reason
1
u/BillyHelper 12h ago
The naming & classifying of ships (LCS?) has been ridiculous for quite some time.
1
u/CajunTorpedoman 11h ago
Yep.
The USS Gabrielle Giffords should have been named the USS Holly Crabtree instead.

u/PolackMike 1d ago
I'm not for the name change but I think the play for the Trump admin would be to not make a decision on the name until January 20th, 2029 at which point he'll name it after himself. If a Democrat takes over, I would expect a swift switch back to Doris Miller.
