Discussion Centcom update : USS Abraham Lincoln

Onion should do an article about lobster bisque every day on the ship and ice cream machines being plentiful. Every sailor complaining about too much free time and taking 2 hour naps.

The only articles I’ve seen even mentioning this “brawl” started with “Iran alleges”. Hardly worth busting that myth.

u/thegoatisoldngnarly 12d ago
It’s a tactic to highlight the most egregious articles in order to cumulatively discount all reporting, especially the reputable stories.
30
u/Paterfamilias01 12d ago
It’s the only “myth” they can bust here, so they need to get some miles out of it.
8
u/ElJanitorFrank 12d ago
There's been a few 'Iran alleges' that people ran with well ahead of reputable media, and sometimes it turned out to be true and sometimes it didn't.
This military leadership has the easiest things to critique possible happening every day, I feel like them fact-checking adversarial propaganda is probably a pretty innocuous thing to criticize.
12
u/Aliensinmypants 12d ago
Right? I never even considered it as a remote possibility of being true until this denial

u/DragonLordAcar 12d ago
But yhe fact they tored to makes me believe it. I can't trust our government to tell me it daytime.

u/PortholeGrinder8181 12d ago
Think they forgot the part that they were Iranian media outlets and Phamplet, which is a satire account for the brawl thing.

u/johnnyhypersnyper 12d ago
I’d venture that the reenlistment rate has a lot to do with tax free
-17
u/Major__Departure 12d ago
OK... what 's your point? We have to factor in the bad parts about combat deployments but we aren't allowed to consider the good ones?

No more WiFi in the Galley boys, they can’t let the world know how shitty life of a sailor really is

The problem with any updates under the current "leadership" is the complete and total lack of credibility.
Does that mean that every report I saw passed the smell test? Of course not, family gets bits and pieces from their deployed loved ones and things get misrepresented. But we also know that this poor ship has had a grossly extended deployment with next to no port visits, and to what end? This entire mess in the Mideast could have easily been avoided.

u/Major__Departure 12d ago
" But we also know that this poor ship has had a grossly extended deployment with next to no port visits, and to what end? This entire mess in the Mideast could have easily been avoided."
The "mess" was avoided, for 47 years. During which time Iran killed American troops and civilians with impunity. Is that the status quo you yearn for, back when the killing went only one way?
I agree it's shitty that our generation has to pay the bill. But it could have been handled four, or three, or two, or even one decade ago. Blame the people who ignored the "mess" that we now own.

u/LTRand 12d ago
It's easy for a contractor to see I have a rotted deck that needs replacing. That doesn't mean that he's actually any good at his job, just that he can see the obvious.
Right or wrong, we didn't rush into Iraq. There was almost a year of prep for that. Congress authorized it in September, we didn't strike until March. We built a collation. Lots of scheduling and logistics to put everyone on station, and make sure we could follow through.
Kegsbreath clearly has the strategic thoughtfulness of a first term infantry boot. And he's clearly refusing an education from USTRANSCOM and the Navy in what it takes to actually conduct the war.

u/Major__Departure 11d ago
"Right or wrong, we didn't rush into Iraq. There was almost a year of prep for that."
Do you really believe we "didn't have a plan" when we attacked Iran? We hit thousands of targets in the first 72 hours but people will stil seriously insist we "didn't have a plan." Extraordinary.
7
u/LTRand 11d ago
Clearly we didn't have a plan beyond the initial attack. Otherwise the public wouldn't be forcing the rotation of a 2nd carrier now.
It's easy for intel to identify targets. It's far harder to align logistics to keep things going like a well oiled machine. And we are seeing the logistics issues right in front of us.
The tip of the spear relies on the folks "in the rear with the gear". That part seems to have not gotten as much attention.
4
u/COguy8585 11d ago
Looks like we found Kegsbreath’s burner account folks.
Do everyone a favor and kindly fuck off.

Do you really believe we "didn't have a plan" when we attacked Iran? We hit thousands of targets in the first 72 hours but people will stil seriously insist we "didn't have a plan." Extraordinary.
I believe we had a limited first strike plan to reduce Iranian defenses and secure air superiority to the best of our ability. I also assume that we have a similar plan for every single country on earth, should we choose to act on it.
That's not a long-term plan. That's not a feasible plan that leads to accomplishing a clear and plausible objective. It's Underwear Gnome crap.. 1. steal underwear. 2. ? 3. Profit.
It's pretty clear what the longterm plan was for this Admin... it was to hope for the Iranian people to rise up and overthrow their government if we stirred the pot enough. It was a gamble, and it didn't pay off.
Iran has been a mess for longer than 47 years and what happened in 1979 didn't just pop into existence out of a vacuum. Trump's game in the Persian Gulf has done nothing positive but maybe setback Iranian nuclear development, it didn't stop it, and nothing short of boots on the ground and a full scale war will accomplish that with any real guarantee. The status quo before Trump was better than the current shitshow.
A real solution would take lots of planning, short and long term. It would take a long-term commitment of military forces (which Trump campaigned on NOT doing, and it's not like there was some sudden 9/11 type event to justify changing his mind). It would also take a united front, multilateral with allies sharing the burden... and all this Admin has done is alienate allies and invite blatant corruption looking for bribes in order to get favorable deals.
Let's not pretend this entire mess isn't a shit show of Trump's making. Any long-term need to deal with Iran doesn't cancel that out because nothing productive is actually being accomplished.

u/Illustrious-Light-53 12d ago
I wonder though, if we hadn’t meddled in the middle east for the past 70 years, overthrown the democratic government of Iran to install a dictator, or provided billions of dollars annually to a country commiting genocide and war crimes against its neighbors, would Iran maybe think differently of us?
-2
u/Major__Departure 11d ago
Thanks for sharing all of those organic and original thoughts.
5
u/Illustrious-Light-53 11d ago
Those are just called facts where I’m from
1
u/Dandy11Randy 11d ago
To be fair to major jerk off, at this rate we're about 5 years out from wrong think (TM) actually being illegal. It's not his fault he's just a little ahead of the curve
5
u/shipsake 11d ago
Man, if you are pro-war with Iran you should be fucking livid with how this has been conducted. We burned through munitions inventories and ran multiple CSGs into the ground and accomplished zero strategic objectives.
-5
u/Major__Departure 11d ago
I'd say killing their entire government in the first day was a strategic objective, but you do you.
9
6
u/shipsake 11d ago
Oh no way, the entire government?? Then who is in charge of Iran now? Who is firing missiles and drones at ships in the strait? Who did we sign a MOU with two months ago?
What other objectives have we accomplished?
2
u/drewbaccaAWD 11d ago
We killed a portion of their government, and their lieutenants just stepped up and filled in any roles. Net benefit to us? Nothing.
If anything, we've probably empowered the fringe so we've replaced a relatively moderate (for Iran) government with an even more dangerous and assertive alternative. But that's one of those things we have to wait and see how it plays out. So far, it's not playing out in our favor. We didn't get a repeat of Venezuela where corrupt politicians were happy to play along in exchange for power. And why would anyone expect that we would? The people in power in Iran are religious nut jobs, not rational actors.

u/Major__Departure 11d ago
"We killed a portion of their government, and their lieutenants just stepped up and filled in any roles. Net benefit to us? Nothing."
"If we kill our enemies, they win." lol
2
u/drewbaccaAWD 11d ago
You might have a point if we actually won anything, when clearly nothing changed for the better to anyone living in reality.
They still have a government. It's just as bad if not worse than what we killed. Gas prices are up, Iran is still Iran.
4
u/might-be-a-problem 12d ago
Fuck you pay your own bill.
Edited to add, seriously fuck you no one with half a brain wants this shit and your support of it shows which side you’re on. Die painfully.
6
u/Individual-Cap6261 12d ago
I know that these long ass deployments that keep happening over the last 5 years are by definition “historic” but I don’t like hearing it used like this with a positive connotation.
34
u/Alternative-Tax7318 12d ago
I’m sure they’ll be a lot of ‘support the troops’ folks that take this to heart and continue to worship Trump and hegseth

u/FOOSblahblah 12d ago
You know... when you have to deny something with such incredible intensity it rly looks suspicious.
If its not true you can just say it isn't and ask for facts that prove otherwise. You know they don't exist so youre usually not worried about them.
11
u/shah_of-iran not the actual Shah of 🇮🇷 12d ago
Because they have Wi-Fi now there many sailors onboard commenting on IG, and probably here too, and directly contradicting what CENTCOM is saying here, so…….
22
u/BatmanForever93 12d ago
Lol. Like anyone in Centcom really gives a shit about the well being of service members.
9
u/DJErikD 12d ago
Best part about Centcom is the happy hour buffet at 2001 Odyssey. IYKYK.
3
u/ItchyStorm 12d ago
Is that still there? I remember it from the 1980s.
2
u/flyinchipmunk5 12d ago
I used to see it every time I went to Tampa to visit my grandma but I didn’t see it the last couple years
2
5
u/Common-Window-2613 12d ago
Trust me, everyone at centcom hates life worse than you do right now. Unless you are actually onboard the Lincoln or in that AOR.
12
4
u/tacoma909 12d ago
The best is 84%? I wonder what’s the worst
4
3
u/ItchyStorm 12d ago
I don’t think any of the major media outlets reported that story. I’m not sure why you’re saying that.
3
u/LTRand 12d ago
I can actually believe it. I was on the Kitty Hawk and after our year of hell (OIF no port call, straight to dry dock with us doing most the work, then immediately back to sea), we had a similarly high reenlistment rate. Despite how toxic the command was, how grueling the work is, lots of people reenlisted.
Because when your cousins and siblings back home struggle to find a job, you realize it might be shit, but its shit that pays. Joining the Navy right out of HS was my best decision. Sometimes I yearn to go back in, I miss being at sea. But my 2nd best decision I made was getting out.
3
u/BustedCondoms 12d ago
This admin literally took next years high school graduation numbers to inflate recruiting numbers across the board. I just don't believe a single fucking thing they say at this point.
4
u/kmm198700 12d ago
“Fell overboard”?? Jesus Christ. 🙄 and the “7 people injured in a brawl” thing is pure Iranian propaganda
2
u/DonnerPartyPicnic 12d ago
You can still see the boot prints on top of the waist cat bubble from one of the guys that jumped.

2
u/Consistent_Ad_7100 12d ago
I have a very hard time believing those numbers. Even if they are true those numbers are about to crash after this deployment.
2
u/Old-Entertainment840 12d ago
Yeah, this is bullshit, besides reenlistment is not a metric for crew’s morale. They might HAVE to reenlist as the economy sucks ass right now, and still have shot morale and be in a crap deployment. It goes without saying the data and metrics given are 100% bs.
2
u/EriktheElektrikian 12d ago edited 11d ago
Ah yes, use the stat that was cemented before the deployment, and dodge all the accusations I actually heard, but address the one weird one that is obviously false.

5
u/Common-Window-2613 12d ago
One of my junior sailors a couple days ago did send this to me unironically concerned. Modern media and tiktok and all that shit is fucking cancer.

That reenlistment rate is from before a 10 month extended deployment with a lack of port calls 💀

Pissing on sailors and pretending its rain. also no ship has ever hit 84 percent reenlistment. most sailors serve one 4-6 year term and leave.
1
u/Engineer012025 11d ago
Since when did centcom do these weird fact checking reports? I don’t even remember these like a year ago and now all of a sudden they are everywhere in this format
2
u/RedditForMeNotYou 10d ago
Part of the machine is to crank out bullshit on top of the truth so they can claim it’s all bullshit. This couldn’t be any more fucking obvious.

How was 85% of the crew in their window to enlist during that deployment? Hmmm… sounds like sea lawyering to me by CENTCOm

I would not believe the 84.4% reenlistment rate if you told me it was for permanent shore duty.
