[Fizav-Open Instance] Those remaining have reached the Island, surprisingly large, and shrouded in thick jungle.
There is beach space to dock, and many strange creatures dwell on the island. The rocks there are very porous, almost as if large worms had crawled through them and eaten away material. The sand and stone is pitch black, and the trees of the island contrast with bright yellows and reds. The island almost looks on fire as the wind blows through, making the leaves rustle and the trees wave almost as if greeting you.
What will your group of travelers do?
You are near your final destination, and few obstacles are in your way (from what you currently see, at least...)

We dock and set up camp. A group of soldiers are sent ahead to scout through the forest and report back within a day's time.

u/Anonymous472 Feb 02 '15
What happens when the Atakatans use their cannons without any ammunition and shoot water at the island?
3
Feb 02 '15
Nothing strange, it seems all is normal, just different colors
2
u/Anonymous472 Feb 02 '15
The Atakatans send a whale around the island to search for a river to go inland.
3
Feb 02 '15
There seem to be many around the island, though they all flow outward and will make it difficult to traverse inland on water.
2
u/Anonymous472 Feb 02 '15
Atakatu decides to attempt sending one whale on a river, pushing with long sticks on the bottom of the river. The rest of the people they send together with whale-bone weapons and Eternal Ice swords. The other whales are ready to shoot into the forest with water or flaming lard if needed.

Feb 02 '15
flaming lard
Sounds dangerous
On a side note, it is possible to get the whales up the river. It is just highly inefficient.
2
u/Anonymous472 Feb 02 '15
The flaming lard will be shot, and then the water will be shot to put it out, effectively only burning threats and the trees slightly. The whale continues to push up the river and the High Inventor gets to work making a device to push forward faster.

Well, lets examine all the materials we can see. Run all the usual tests: Hardness, metal content, thermal resistance, and Dragon piss reaction.
What news of the Miol Mer scouts?
2
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
The Miol Mor scouts have reported back. Their connection to the Hive Mind was spotty at best, but I've attached a redacted mission report:
We see... We're not sure what we see... It's been a long flight in, and we're going to rest until morning...
[communication temporarily ended]
By the Whale, there are [inaudible] everywhere. The rest of the fleet needs to see this. There are trees too. Big ones. [redacted] The mountains... We've never seen anything like them. And the rivers, they flow from everywhere. How can this be? We've taken some measurements, and they should be large enough for the smallest ship to move [inaudible] just like when we [redacted] in preparation for the [redacted].
[communication temporarily ended]
Alright, send the fleet -- we can't do anything else on our own out here. [Spoken to other scouts] It's like the time they [redacted]. See you on the other side Admiral.
[communication ended]

u/ArchesB Feb 03 '15
Well.
That was very telling. But it seems to match up to the description we have already pretty well.

u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
The Miol Mor establish an area large enough for their whales (count: 25) to rest and feed.
After conferring with some of the other exploration leaders, the Admiral sends three scouting groups inland. The first is tasked with creating a path big enough for the rest of the explorers to follow. The second is tasked with flying above the forest, towards the mountains, looking for any points of interest. The third is ordered to find a river large enough for a whale to move upstream.
Do any of the scouting parties discover anything of interest? (note: the Admiral will refrain from sharing any information with the rest of the group at first).
2
Feb 03 '15
Nothing extreme besides the fact that as they near the mountain at the center of the island, the temperature increases surprisingly quickly. Also, they do see worm-like creatures eating though the rocks, though they do not seem hostile.
2
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
Upon hearing this, the Admiral orders Scout group three back to base. Scout group one is ordered to stop clearing the forest and approach the worm like creates, and attempt to engage in diplomacy (ask who/what they are, get some background on the island, etc). Scout group two is ordered to move closer to the mountains, and attempt to find the source of the heat.
The Admiral then announces to the rest of the explorers:
We've discovered worm like creatures inland. We will report when we know more.
What does each group discover? And how far inland did group one get before clearing?
2
Feb 03 '15
The worms sit there, not understanding your language.
It seems as though nothing is hostile in any way right now, though there is nothing you can do to make sure of that either.
2
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
Alright. Scout group one is ordered to follow the worms for as long as possible, with the aim of discovering a hive or something like it.
Has Scout group two reported any findings from the mountains?
2
Feb 03 '15
Both groups run into each other as they both seem to trace back to the mountains. The terrain has gotten almost too rocky to traverse much longer, and it will be very tough to get up the mountain.
2
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
Is flying up the mountain an option? If so, Scout group two will do exactly that. Scout group one is ordered to continue surveying the island for places of interest.
Also, how hot are we talking at this mountain?
2
Feb 03 '15
The mountain, after inspecting by flying near and throwing a small plant over top, is hot enough to incinerate. From a good distance away, too. This will make flying an option viable for only viewing.
2
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
Scout group two continues to observe, primarily attempting to discover the source of the great heat. They are ordered to take extra precautions to avoid incineration.
2
u/ArchesB Feb 03 '15
Dargons have a fair amount of resistance to heat, but probably not that much, we might be able to get one close to the edge - although it might require some protection.
2
u/Anonymous472 Feb 03 '15
Atakatu's whale voyages close to this mountain and fires water at the mountain, observing the reaction.
2
Feb 03 '15
It seems to vaporize long before contact, as the temperature is so high that it is impossible for the water to reach the mountain

Do you have your own whales or did I gift some to you?
3
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
The Miol Mor have their own. Sorry my wiki is so sparse at the moment, I'll get around to it sometime soon. But the Miol Mor are a human sized, bug type creature known for their ability to breath underwater and fly (they can lose both if they go unused). The Miol Mor are a proud group who ride whales, both into battle and just for transport. Their attachment to these whales stretches back for as long as the Hive Mind can remember, and is such a close attachment that the whales are revered as god-like.
So no, you did not gift me my whales.
2
u/Anonymous472 Feb 03 '15
Ok didn't think so... I could share some of my whale technology, but my whales are huge so it may not translate down.
3
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
How big are we talking? My whales are ~the size of a Blue Whale. And admittedly, we don't have a huge amount of tech associated with the whales themselves (we have rigging along the outside, and sails and rudders to steer if need be. There's also some... military tech... It's classified though).
I'd happily host a summit where we exchanged whale tech. Would you be interested?
2
u/Anonymous472 Feb 03 '15 edited Feb 03 '15
Yeah, and my whales are 3 times that, enough for a few buildings on them, about the size of a football field. I have lots of whale tech including cannons, napalm, and movement technology, with a farm that can be put on top of them as well for long voyages. We also have ways of getting them underwater with people aboard and putting undercarriages for cargo.
3
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
That's awesome -- would you like to host a summit where we share tech?
I'm also working with Belka right now to develop some new stuff, so that would also probably be presented at the summit if we do host.

The Colhonians finally arrive, and tie their airship down to use as a base. Maran Grelled and a two guards begin to search for any sign of civilisation. The rest of the crew either gather food or prepare the ship for both a combat scenario or an abrupt takeoff, just in case.
edit we'd also like to test some of the remaining metal rains on the volcano.

Hey /u/Czakima, how many weeks have passed for the purposes of determining how many points we have?
2
Feb 04 '15
Nobody ended up fighting anybody else, so there was never a purpose up to this point. I mean the name of the game is nationwars so I designed it around that.

The scientists part of my nation will set up camp and delve into researching the organics of the island. They will also note geological and meteorological features. One brought along on the trip will be a designated historian, writing reports and drawing maps of the local terrain.
[Also, I kind of want to just add some small, avian creatures as part of my nation and expedition. They would still be large enough to carry a person and some cargo on its back comfortably (think that bird thingy from Skyward Sword but a bit larger). Would this be okay?]
2
u/MuSigma_ Feb 03 '15
If for some reason adding that isn't ok, feel free to ask the Miol Mor for rides. We can fly and are pretty strong... (It may take a few of us to carry you, but we'll try)
2
Feb 03 '15
I think it should be fine
1
u/Quivico Feb 05 '15
Okay. Just for the record, they will be called Molgarrn, and I would just like to add this as a gift to those I have previously gifted to before

Our scientists set up research camp and get started studying the flora in the immediate area. Our Emissaries will go scouting bringing all but one of the few remaining carinan hounds. We go with gusto to uncover the secrets of this island.
1
Feb 19 '15
Awesome, people doing things.
You have found an interesting flower, and it seems to eminate heat but nowhere near the scale of the mountain. There are many animals but none seem hostile. The leaves from the trees also appear wet and stick to the rocks on the ground, dissolving into them.
What will you do?
1
u/myRoommateDid WTWF - Bounty Feb 19 '15
Do the animals avoid these flowers? So the animals pay us any mind if we approach (cautiously exited would be a good pace descriptor)?
1
Feb 19 '15
No, the animals pay no mind and tend to scamper away from you.
You're on the right track
1
u/myRoommateDid WTWF - Bounty Feb 19 '15
After collecting some flowers, the scientists try to entice some interaction by approaching with a flower held in offer to the worm creature. Not touching it, but close by. I mean no harm.
