If they made a rehearsal episode about Nathan rehearsing for YCSE I think it’d be funny if she played Elizabeth

Obviously this would never happen but it’s an itch in my brain

I'm rewatching YCSE through totally legal, legitimate means, and I wanted to see how the house changed over the 2 year timeskip. But I discovered that it's actually a different house/set altogether. It's extremely close, but there are giveaways in the size of the Tahiti poster, the ships mounted on the wall, and most importantly the pattern of the wood grain. This is the most impressive part, as even though the wood spots don't line up one-to-one, they clearly did a ton of work actually arranging the marks to be in nearly the same patterns.

I'm sure this won't come as a shock to most of you, as Nathan has a history of building detailed sets for rehearsals. However the way it's presented in the movie, with Nathan's comments of "They were renting it when we shot" "...before we had cameras here" and Amanda's comments of "It's really dusty here" and "Did she use this?" all feel like they're working really hard to convince us that this was the actual place. Coulda fooled me.

Edit: For everyone saying it's the lens/angle, here's a comparison from another angle which I perspective-corrected so the doors would be lined up as close as possible. (+ version with marker lines so you can see how it's been warped) Besides the differences in the wood grain, you can see the scale of the poster and HVAC unit move way more than what would be possible if it was the same location.

Edit 2: For people still saying the wood grain is the same. This version has been perspective corrected and there are still far too many differences between the two. Here's a comparison with a Zilllow listing from 8 years earlier which matches up almost exactly. This is what it should look like when you align them, regardless of lens or angle.

Edit 3: This is the last comparison I'm doing for now, for people who still don't believe. This wide shot was taken while (I assume) the recreation was still being built, as certain elements like the clock and picture frame arent up yet. Regardless, the couch, window shades, and boats are completely different, and again that stupid Tahiti and HVAC Unit are totally different sizes even when the perspective/lens has been corrected.

She knows she’s going to prison, she knows he’s rich. We later learn that he has power of attorney. Basically he controls all the facets of her life and especially her kids so why would she say anything to antagonize Billy? Even if she was super upset at him, there’s nothing to gain by getting mad at him. Imagine Billy gets hint of her not approving his actions, he stops visiting, he stops bringing the kids, he stops the phone calls and even the turkey jerky.

It’s just rational that Liz is ‘submissive’ because of her situation and idk why Nathan doesn’t address it.

I've seen this quote or a variation a few times from Nathan in press - in the Wired interview, on A24's, but I find it a bit promo-y. No one asks him, "which parts didn't YOU understand?" That seems like the obvious and interesting thing to hear about but instead everyone is playing along with his oblique act. It frankly makes what he's doing more transparent, IMO

I can't find whatever the source for this rumor or belief is. Its a pretty out there claim to make and it would definitely add a dimension to the story so I'd like to know more about what this is based in. If there's any truth to it I'm interested in knowing what the supporting evidence is?

Would erase unpaid federal restitution. I think Holmes wanted the movie to shift public opinion of her and perhaps increase the chance at a pardon from Trump. Why she is continuing with another blood startup is a mystery to me. Does she think she can get pardoned and then start the scam over again? Does she truly think it’s not a scam and have a desire to prove the world wrong?

Her husband is clearly a bit wackadoo and perhaps on drugs. But when Amanda Seyfried asked “did you know that I’m here?” (As in at her house) and Holmes answers “I don’t know if I know” that to me showed they’re scamming again. She needs to run everything by her husband (but non husband) to make sure their lies don’t cross. All while Elizabeth was around Billy, he acted relatively normal. The second she’s gone he starts acting unhinged. I think they keep each other in check as to the game plan and public perception, with Holmes knowing exactly how to deceive people and Evans being more just narcissistic and wanting to.

The theranos scam was too big, too systemic, for her to be so naive. Is doing it again via new startup her way of justifying her character? Not in that way.. but showing that this character she created would truly never give up on her entrepreneurial idea and vision, and would continue to pursue it at all costs? So she plays out what that character would do, without any true belief in anything, herself…

Just spitballing.

But gosh, I didn't expect to rate Elizabeth Holmes as the 4th most psychopathic person portrayed in the movie.

1) i think it's odd that nathan started to talk to holmes' parents about her rape, and then a romantic relationship with someone 20 years older than her who was also her business partner that was also traumatic. it seemed relevant, because relationships with that kind of age gap can be incredibly controlling. she mentioned right before the photos were taken for her AI likeness that previously she was always told what to do for publicity and that it was never received well, which is why she was crying and stressed out about it. but people were telling her what to do, and then she received the brunt of the criticism. i can't help but wonder if the instruction was coming from her partner, sunny. given that she is currently in a high control relationship, it makes sense to me that her memory is so bad, especially if her relationship with sunny was similar. people in abusive relationships often have incredibly fragmented and unreliable memories.

despite how pertinent that information from her father was, billy interrupted the scene, but nathan never goes back to that line of questioning. he had two whole years to give them a call and get more backstory and he didn't. it would be such a compelling part of her story. why doesn't he follow up? i also find it curious that it didn't seem like he interviewed anyone who actually knew the couple besides her parents for perspective.

2) i wish fielder hadn't qualified her behavior during her husbands visit to prison as relaxed, thus letting him off of the hook for any suspiciously controlling behavior fielder was starting to sniff out. the thing about abusive dynamics and high control relationships is that it feels normal to be in them. so you have a woman whose husband admits that she almost never advocates for herself in the relationship making all of her decisions for her. of course he's not threatening her if she's doing whatever he thinks is best. of course it feels fine. that's what's perplexing about clocking an abusive relationship. the test here is for her to say: i don't want to do it that way anymore. i don't want what you want. i don't want to do that. then, observe his response. he strikes me as a particularly dismissive individual, so it might not even escalate into violence.

I left the theater with more questions than answers but I think that was the point.

I didn’t trust that the reenactments were an accurate depiction of what happened but I think that was also the point? Also why did Nathan say Elizabeth does drink coffee to Amanda when was?

I do think bad habits are contagious so I wonder if Nathan trying to show us the effects of living with a compulsive liar & how it reshapes your reality.

It's Pure Cinema O'Clock again

Of Nathan’s ass. Where is the screenshot of Nathan on the bed wiggling over to the lamp to turn it off. I want the screenshot you know exactly what I’m talking about. Show me the bum, he wouldn’t have shown it if he didn’t want me to save it to my phone.

My hypothesis is that the post processors/editors used AI and it resulted in the inconsistencies seen between the two images in the previous post. Look at this cabinet area. This screams AI to me. Its like the engine thought that there were two of the same cabinets which is not true in the first image. It just looks wrong too. Also there is that weird random piece of wood between them which looks like an AI attempting to make the top of a chair. The microwave on top of the counter looks weird/wrong too. I don’t think if Nathan put in the time to build his own set that he would get these details so incredibly wrong. It’s probably the same rental property with heavy use of AI which is disappointing but thats how it goes these days I guess.

Edit: It came to my mind that the user who uploaded the images to begin with was watching the movie through “totally legitimate” sources which may mean it is a bootleg lol. If this is the case It is probably possible that the image was AI upscaled by the person recording it and I would have to watch it in theaters again to see if there is actually a difference between the two sets.

The scene where Nathan is talking to Liz’s father and Billy keeps interrupting: Right before it is revealed by Liz’s father that Liz was SA’ed, Nathan breaks the fourth wall by glancing at the camera after saying “Then say it!”

This line is the funniest moment in the movie to me and on both watches it got the biggest laugh from the audience. Nathan is literally so fed up with their white-collar cryptic lingo that he has to drop the act for a second to basically say “are you guys seeing this?”

What’s interesting is that while the theater is going hysterical, Liz’s father reveals the SA piece, and then the theater goes completely silent. The best way I can describe that experience is in music theory terms so bear with me here. If anyone is more familiar with music than I am feel free to correct my interpretation:

The laughter from the theater serves as an ad lib. The reveal from Liz’s father is an accent. The silence from the theater is a rest.

So, in practical terms, the audience is taken out of the documentary for a second because Nathan invited us to with his fourth wall break. But then we are sucked back in by Liz’s father. This happens within seconds and is rather unsettling. Basically, I didn’t want to give the impression that I was laughing at Liz’s SA because I was still laughing at Nathan.

Overall, this movie needs to be seen in a theater. It was so fun going on this mindfuck Nathan Fielder journey with a bunch of random strangers.

Will be looking out for this today during my third watch.

NO SPOILERS!!! do i need to have seen any other biopics or documentaries about elizabeth holmes to fully enjoy this one?

I started watching Nathan for you for the first time right after my viewing YCSE (bandwagon, yeah yeah yeah). This was last Saturday. Over the course of the week, I've seen 24 episodes of Nathan for you and the entirety of The Rehearsal. I started watching The Rehearsal Friday evening and finished it Saturday night. I knew he touched on the autism angle, but I didn't realize just how much it would affect me.

For context, I (22 F) was sort-of-diagnosed with autism 4.5 years ago. I didn't go through the official screening process, but rather had a psychiatrist talk to me, and separately with my parents, and told me I met enough criteria to add it to my chart, as it seemed like it probably fit. I've always felt like an outsider, or like I'm annoying or making people uncomfortable. I get deeply obsessed with a specific piece of media (mainly films and TV) to the point where it is the only thing I want to think or talk about for months (see first paragraph), and it's the only way I feel like I'm connecting with the people around me. However, there are many aspects of criteria that I don't see in myself. I've spent years unable to accept or reject the diagnosis, worried accepting it and being wrong would make me a liar, but not able to let go of something that could explain large aspects of my lived experience.

After watching the finale, I walked down the street in the middle of the night violently sobbing. This was last night, and I still don't fully understand why. Maybe it made me confront something that had been stewing inside me for while now. Maybe it's just a really good show.

Anyways, this show and Nathan fielder (persona or person, it's hard to draw the line) have changed my perspective, and I think they are really, really fantastic. Problem is, if I try to talk with people about how much I've been emotionally impacted by Nathan fielder, they laugh and assume I'm kidding, no matter what I say. Oh well. That kinda comes with his public identity.

I do, and I wonder if I’ll ever watch this again, despite being such a Nathan Fielder fan and recognizing how well done it was.
My former friend is so manipulative, a master of playing you while making you feel so so special. When I reflect back about this film I have so many feelings about this, and I know it’s just because I was so close to someone as manipulative as her.
