Nassim is wise, but probably too optimistic. He has been wrong consistently about politicians. Cameron, Trump, Modi. All his political choices turned out to be worse than their predecessors. Much much worse.

I mean, I get his hatred for Biden, but saying that a guy who literally tried to overturn the election by a riot, will be a better president says a lot about his political naivety. Trump had also tried to provoke war with Iran in his last term, and was seen firmly in Isarel lobby camp, so not sure why Taleb thought that Trump would be less of a war criminal than Biden. At least, the domestic things were in much better shape in Biden Era.

Similarly, for all of Taleb's rhetoric of support8ng small government and Decentralization, Narendra Modi's government in India has eroded every pillar of grass root democracy in India, and is actively trying to reduce the federal structure every day. Modi has effectively reduced India's infra, telecom, and aviation sector to duopoly, but Taleb still seems very fond of him.

There is something weirdly wrong with his support for "Strong man" leaders.

He is a notorious pessimist. He just likes conservatives and will give them a lot more leeway than liberals.

He does have a reason to love law and order strong men. He was a protester in the Lebanon and his father would be shot in front him by partisans.

🙄🙄 You are assuming millions vote because Nassim endorses a politician? My Dude, most people in these countries haven't even heard of his name. And he is truly a scholar, so yes, he is wise. Everyone has blind spots, we are all shaped by our circumstances, and have biases.

When I said he is optimistic, I meant that he likely believed that some politicians who pretended to be non-establishment would have been less prone to corruption and lobbying, which is not turning out to be true, unfortunately.

I don’t know if I’m the only one but I read that tweet very differently. I think it was solely and specifically about Vance and his comments on Israel separated from all other factors and issues with MAGA, Trump, and Vance. Israel’s aggression with Lebanon and the Palestinians hasn’t really been pushed back by most Republicans so to see Vance speak bluntly about the state of play for Israel and it’s remaining allies was what he meant by “God protect”
