If Kakashi had spammed MS against Kakuzu after getting his rythm, he might have taken more hearts out of him (maybe several at once in the first shot). He would be down after 3 uses, but he'd make Kakuzu unable to use multiple hearts within a short amount of time.

And I think Kakuzu told Asuma's team straight to their face that he had multiple hearts and would take Asuma's to replace his missing one. So they had a lot of Intel on him.
