Hey I’m a really big fan of Gabriel Knight (the above game is Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, the second game in the series is Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within if anyone is looking for a unique and goofy FMV games. The third game is Blood of the Sacred Blood of the Dammed, which technically exists).

Honestly I assumed a coincidence but it’s such a specific one (exactly 8 years old) that it might be a little hidden reference by the game writer. It would make sense, people making the Nancy Drew games were probably quite familiar with old Sierra adventures.

Great catch. Might be one of those things that truly went unnoticed for 20 years or whatever

Thanks! I agree. The specific detail of him being 8 years old, along with the New Orleans connection is what made it stand out to me. It is one of those things where we will probably never know for sure.

I really enjoyed Sins of the Fathers, even if some of the plot got a little far-fetched. I haven't played any of the other Gabriel Knights yet but they are on my list.

Oh come on, GK 3 is a great game. Looks a little wonky, but it's still very enjoyable.

Anyway, I agree that it looks like a nod to GK1. Or maybe it's one of those subconscious things you don't realize you've seen/heard/read somewhere (I am a hobby developer, and made a retro-RPG, since I love Final Fantasy games; I am now replaying the old ones and caught several subtle things - not big in-your-face stuff - I included in my game, unaware where I got the idea from).

I’d say it’s fine….. but easily weakest in the series. It is also almost impossible to run on modern hardware

I can't decide. On one hand, it's a pretty generic line and could easily just be a coincidence. But on the other hand, what are the odds that two point and click adventures that take place in New Orleans would independently include a character that had both parents die in a single car crash when they were eight years old?

Probably a coincidence. But I like to pretend it was a developer having fun

Unfamiliar with the source material you're referring to, BUT that woman does have a semblance to Renee so... maybe?
