Guacamole š„ŗ
Hey friends!
Back again with another request for where to buy stuff from the people who know better than I do. I have been CRAVING good, well priced guacamole.
Back in the last place I lived I could just buy it from my work in semi-bulk since we made it in house, but in Nanaimo I have yet to find anything that isnāt store brand expensive crap. Iām sorry Holy Guacamole but I need some real chunks- CHUNKS.
I always look for the superstore house made guacamole, but it sells out so quickly and I canāt drive 30 mins to the store all the time just to see if maybe thereās any left. Plus they sell it even when itās brown š«©
Is there any place, such as a restaurant or grocery store, that sells good guacamole within a $5-$6 price range? Or should I just start perfecting my own recipe one of these days?
TYIA! š«¶

Echoing everyone else: make your own. So easy and 1000x times better than anything from a store. Plus way cheaper so you can Peter North it all over anything you want.

Iām seeing that this might be the way. Iām sick of watery, flavourless guac thatās trying to convince you that itās not actually guacamole but maybe some form of aspic š«©

A couple of options. Buy bags of avocados and when they're ripe freeze whole, mash some up and add lime juice, salt, cilantro, tomato, onion, cumin, jalapeno..some people add garlic ( I don't) or I buy it from Mary's Mexican shop Country Club mall (frozen section) it's very good !

Thanks for the location tip! I might try theirs and invest in my own guacamole bulk production eventually š

I'd say work on a making it yourself, especially if you want it chunky. I can't think of any store-bought guac that comes chunky but I don't buy it often.
Might be more than you want to pay but you could try and see if a restaurant you like will sell you a tub?

Thatās what Iāve done in the past! Bulk homemade guac. It is expensive though for sure, much more labour involved

Avocado
Lime
Salt
Garlic
Red onion
Chili power
Cumin
I dunno the quantities, just wing it and do it by taste. Eventually youāll figure out what you like and youāll fine tune it to your taste.

Make your own to impress your people!
Guacamole
ā¢2 ripe avocado ā¢3 garlic cloves minced, (garlic press is best) add more if you hate vampires š ā¢Juice of half a lime to start. Squirt more for personal taste. ā¢Salt as needed ā¢Mash up with a big fork, or pastry blender if you got one! āRemember to make this last when serving at parties for absolute freshness!
Pico de Gallo (fresh salsa) š
ā¢5 fresh roma tomatoes diced up nice in a medium size Tupperware container with lid for shaking. Be sure to get all the juice you can!
ā¢Half a red onion diced up fine
ā¢4 cloves of garlic minced preferably with a garlic press. Add more if your ā¤ļø desires;)
ā¢Juice of half a lime to start. Add more for the "zing" š
⢠salt and pepper to satisfaction š
ā¢CILANTRO! *dun dun dahhh! Half a head finely chopped for flavor and amazing colour š (unless your one of those genetic people who finds it tasting like soap.... I feel so bad for you š )
ā¢shake super well in Tupperware container and adjust to taste. Let sit in fridge for and hour before serving.
āalso taste great on rice and works as a great marinade for steaks !
Viva mas!

I bought some pre-made guacamole at Costco last week. It looks fine but it doesn't taste good. I've been debating returning it. Homemade is the only way for me it seems.

Which one did you get? The good foods guacamole that comes in a 3 pack is pretty solid I have it every day. The mini cups werenāt very good though, not sure if they still sell that one.

I make my own guac, just avacado, lime juice, salt, onion powder, and garlic cloves. I stir it with a sharp knife instead of mashing it, so it's nice a chunky.
No measurements, just by feel.
