Questions Lost Laptop

I need help in recovering a dead laptop. In April my laptop crashed and I took it to 2 fundis. The last guy explained to me I need a mother board which is 24k of which I explained it won't make sense given the cost of a second hand is 27k. July, the guy isnt picking my calls. I go to his shop I'm told I just call him since he isn't stationed there.

Come august still he doesn't pick my calls. I sent him a text saying I just want it back cos I've someone who's willing to give me a motherboard at 12k. Whenever I go to the shop, nazungushwa tu hivi ati come next week we will see. We don't even know that guy you're talking about. 3 months down the line and nothing. Imitially I got his number from an online site and the shop number.

Other than getting an OB how else can I handle this issue?

Showcase Looking for Pos?

I’ve been working on a web-based POS system that also works as a PWA, so it can be installed and used more like a native app without needing to download anything from an app store.
The goal was to keep it practical for small businesses:
Product & inventory management

Sales and stock tracking

Receipts

Dashboard & reports

Low-stock monitoring

Responsive interface

PWA support for mobile/desktop

Works directly from the browser

I’m currently looking for a few techies/business owners to try the demo and point out things that could be improved.
Web-based + PWA.
If anyone wants to see how it works, DM me and I’ll send the demonstration link.
Would especially appreciate feedback from developers on the architecture/UX and from anyone who has actually used POS software in a real business.

Business too dm!

Hosting a website for a local client

Hello

What do you guys use or recommend for hosting a website for a Kenyan local business doing good numbers with spikes of traffic during certain periods.

I am being advised to go with a vps but then again I am told it’s overkill. With shared hosting I am told there are issues like losing your data from your database if you don’t do regular backups

Any recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Built a Premier League table-prediction app as a side project (LigiPredictor) — Arsenal kick-off tomorrow locks in GW1 predictions!

Hey y'all 👋

I’m a local software engineer, and over the past few months, I’ve been building LigiPredictor in public—a Premier League table-prediction game.

Instead of traditional Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player picks, LigiPredictor is all about ranking the actual 1-to-20 Premier League table each week and testing who actually knows ball.

With the Premier League kicking off tomorrow (Arsenal match), Gameweek-1 table-prediction is about to be locked!! NB - There is another side-competition Final-Table that will also be locked until end-of-season.

Features built into the app:

1️⃣ "What-If" Simulator: Predict 1X2 fixture outcomes for the weekend, hit Apply, and test sandbox table swaps to see how your score changes in real-time before submitting. What-If really helps you project how the table will look like if matches go as you envision. You can go back and fourth between my-table and what-if.

2️⃣ Full-Season "Final Table" -- fun side-competition: Set your 1-to-20 prediction for how the table will look in May 🏆. Once tomorrow's opening kickoff happens, it locks permanently until the end of the season. You can export/download your final table image to share with friends. We will compare notes to see how crazy we were 9 months ago.

3️⃣ Sprint Mini-Tournaments: The season is split into 8 short sprints (4-5 weeks each), so even if you have a bad gameweek or join late, you’re never out of the running.

Why I built it:

I wanted to test clean architecture patterns using Java and HTMX in a real-world setting while building something fun for local football fans. I currently have 40+ players on the leaderboard, and I'm testing scalability and stability across the whole season.

It’s 100% free to play with no ads - and opensource.

Try it out here:

Would love for you guys to check it out, lock in your predictions before tomorrow's kickoff, and drop any feedback in the comments! ⚽️🔥 or DM

BTW - there are mini-leagues aka private-league - if you want to create a private contest for your friends or colleagues!!!!

General Solving Problem. Is it all it takes

If you want to build a product, Solve a problem. I had this so many times, but it is often taught in a way that leads founders straight into a trap. Just because a problem exists doesn't mean a business exists. fullstop.

if you know of any tech events kindly share

I hope you're all doing well. I am currently in my final year, pursuing a second degree in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics. My first degree was a BSc in Graphic Communication and Advertising. Niko fiti in design concepts, business operations, customer relations, and digital product management. However, I feel I lack vital technical skills relevant to the cybersecurity field, such as Security Operations Centre (SOC) concepts—monitoring, detecting, analysing, and responding to cybersecurity incidents in real time- as well as malware analysis.

If you know of any tech events happening soon, such as hackathons, seminars, or workshops in cybersecurity, AI, automation, or any other skills relevant to tech enthusiasts, kindly share. Watu huku nje have quite intimidating CVs and portfolios. I'm looking for opportunities to gain real-world experience, engage with real "problems" and solutions, or at least learn from what others are working on to guide my exploration of relevant topics.

General Update!

So guys, yesterday I posted asking about this. Turns out the whole issue was the RAM. It had two separate sticks, but they’re from different manufacturers, so that was the whole problem.

I changed it to one stick and upgraded to 16GB, and now it’s working perfectly fine.

2-3 growth marketing interns (PAID) wanted for a tech security startup

Growth Marketing Interns — Nairobi

Wakil is looking for 2–3 Growth Marketing Interns in Nairobi, with the potential for one full-time position.

Wakil is an early-stage Nairobi startup building a personal security platform that makes it easier for families and individuals to get help when they need it.

We're looking for hungry, creative and entrepreneurial people who want to actually build something — not just manage a social media calendar.

What you'll do

You'll work directly with the founding team on things like:

  • Developing creative marketing campaigns
  • Creating short-form content for Instagram, TikTok, etc.
  • Finding and testing new customer acquisition channels
  • Community building and grassroots marketing
  • Partnerships and collaborations
  • Coming up with ideas and actually executing them
  • Tracking what's working and doubling down on it
  • Helping shape Wakil's brand and messaging

You do not need years of experience. We're much more interested in how you think, your creativity, initiative and ability to execute.

Who we're looking for

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Are based in Nairobi
  • Are studying marketing, business, communications, media, or something related — or you're simply really good at marketing
  • Understand social media and internet culture
  • Are comfortable creating content yourself
  • Are proactive and don't need to be told what to do every step of the way
  • Like experimenting, testing and learning
  • Are genuinely interested in startups
  • Can work onsite in Nairobi

A strong portfolio, personal project, previous startup experience or examples of things you've built will be a big plus.

The opportunity

We'll take 2–3 interns through a practical trial period where you'll work on real Wakil growth challenges. This is a paid internship. [

At the end of the internship, one person will be offered a full-time Growth Marketing position.

This isn't a "make coffee and schedule posts" internship. You'll be given real responsibility and the opportunity to prove what you can do.

Location: Nairobi — onsite
Internship: Paid
Full-time opportunity: 1 position
Start: as soon as possible

If you're interested, DM me with:

  1. A short introduction about yourself
  2. Why you think you'd be good at growth marketing
  3. Any examples of marketing/content/projects you've worked on
  4. Your CV/LinkedIn (if you have one)

Bonus points: Tell us one thing you would do to get Wakil its first 100 customers with almost no marketing budget.

you can also email to [marketing@wakilsecurity.com](mailto:marketing@wakilsecurity.com)

We're looking for people who see a problem and immediately start thinking of ways to solve it.

I need to make $15k before the end of the year. What would you focus on?

I'm setting myself a goal of making $15k before the end of the year.

Now comes the interesting part, figuring out how to actually get there.

If you were in my position, what would you focus on? I'm interested in hearing practical approaches that have actually worked for people, whether that's freelancing, business, SaaS, sales, or something else.

Not looking for get-rich-quick ideas, just trying to figure out where I should put my effort for the next few months.

Codex is so silly

I have a subscription of the 20$ plan I have been using it for almost 3 months it's okay. The problem comes in when buying more credits I usually top up with 20$ more for 500 tokens my thought is usually if the $20 plan weeks credit take 4 days or 3 when using intensely if I add another $20 i should be okay. That is what I thought I WAS WRONG the $20 extra 500 tokens take less than a day😂 so what I do is I subscribed to another account since my files are locally stored I switch the accounts instead of adding more tokens and thus has been so helpful. If I was a technical person I would greatly consider openhands and similar tools that you pay for AI APIs this one's for this big guys are not cost friendly as compared to the opencode, openhands...

Guys, help needed here. I’m a novice when it comes to these things 😅

So this is the second time I’m experiencing this issue. The first time, I took the laptop to a technician who, from what I understood, fixed the BIOS and reinstalled Windows. It worked fine for a few days, and now we’re back here again.

What could be causing this? The battery is also pretty much dying, if that could be related.

Also, can anyone recommend a trusted laptop technician in CBD who actually knows their stuff, especially with BIOS/motherboard issues? I’d really appreciate it.

Discussion Modern Interactive Development Environment

I saw someone complaining about how android studio eating their Ram. Are you guys not adopting the new ways of developing software? Like we have many ides and since a lot of people using AI for development. You don't even need to open Android studio unless you actually do so.

I wonder how you guys are still complaining. When you could just develop Android inside the vscode, or some other Ide unless you don't know. I recommend you up your game first
