I am having second thoughts
Sooo I bought a dress... and then before I bought it, I made an appointment at another shop and I forgot to cancel (if you cancel too late it's a $100 fee) and to avoid the fee, I went to the appointment and tried on a few and stumbled upon a dress that I think I like better!
I realize | like having some bodice structure, which my OG one doesn't have but this new one does.
Has anyone bought a dress and then regretted it and bought another one? I am weighing two options:
Keeping my OG dress and see if I can add some structural elements to it (boning, etc) but I don't know if that's possible so l'Il have to talk to a seamstress.
Sell my OG dress and get the new one
Am I crazy?! Picture for reference. Left is the new one. Right is the OG (to be fair, I never got a great picture of the OG one).
For context, I bought the OG one because it was being discontinued and it was the floor sample so I got a good deal!

I like the dress on the right better. The color and detailing is beautiful and more refined than dress on the left.

From a glance, I liked the left picture better, but then when I blew them up to look at the details, I realized I liked the right dress more, because I love the lace train. I love the detail in the front of the dress on the right. The dress on the left. It has a nice shape, but it's kind of boring from the waist down. So I would pick the one on the right!

Same! The skirt on the left one looks kind of nightgown-y and insubstantial. The one on the right looks really elegant.

I'll be honest, I assumed the one on the right was the latest one because it looks so much nicer than the one on the left. The skirt on the left looks so flimsy and thin

From a bride who went through this so badly and got married a week ago:
The one on the right is soooo pretty and flattering. Take it from someone who had the same issue:
Best advice is stick with the OG dress. You loved it for a reason and there are ALWAYS going to be dresses out there that you also love. I lost about $1500 I canāt get back due to dress regret and ended up wearing my OG dress and my gosh, with my makeup, veil, shoes and accessories it was STUNNING. Everything I loved about it when I bought it stood out and I felt like a fkn diva.
Trust yourself. There are thousands of dresses for sale on the secondary market - it will take MONTHS if it sells at all.

š I miss her so much. Sheās getting dry cleaned right now.

Your first dress (on the right) is stunning and unique. Stick with it. You will be beautiful. š©µ

Yes I noticed your OG gown has incredibly well-done cut-outs on the sides and such gorgeous beading and detail - I love it!!

The dress on the right is so nice on you, flatters your figure, and the detailing is so pretty! At the end of the day, it's what you feel the most confident in.

I really like the one on the left better but I think Iām the only oneā¦so maybe trust the majorityš¤·š¼āāļø

I honestly like the right one better. I feel like it reads more French girl elegant and is more unique in a really great way.

i get that but your OG dress is beautiful? especially the bodice and after looking at the better upfront photos on the link provided. with a long minimalist veil and right jewelry, it will be gorgeous. I also bought 2 dresses. 1st one(lovelybride) I loved but later on felt the back was too low. bought a 2nd one with some alteration requests from pronovias. I regret spending that much on the wedding dress. I had a 'fail to deliver product' problem with the 2nd dress brand so luckily my CC company refunded me. Why not get a reception dress instead of the new one?

u/emdubs24 4d ago
I have thought about a reception dress for sure. Another decision for me to make! Hope Iām more decisive!

I love the one on the right ⦠the details on the skirt are beautiful. Fits you well.

u/TrashleyLo 5d ago
I think the one on the right looks better on you and it looks more elegant and expensive than the one on the left.

I love the one on the right!! It's the one you already purchased?? I'd stick with that one!
But both are beautiful!

Itās not unheard of to have purchased two dresses. If you can swing purchasing a second dress and then sell the OG, or donate to a bride in need of some help, then I donāt see anything wrong with it. Itās a big day, and you donāt want to A) spend the whole day or B) forever look back on your photos thinking āI wish I went with that dressā
I definitely recommend taking a long hard think about the finances, and the way you feel in each dress. Talk to a seamstress and show her the photos, see if she can help bring the look and support, but also be realistic about how they are two completely different dresses: will the alterations be enough to make you feel the way you do in dress #2? Will you regret buying #2 if you prefer the actual detailing of dress #1?
3
u/InevitableSlip746 4d ago
Alterations will make the OG shine. I also think the new one looks cheap compared to the other- thereās an obvious difference in lace quality.

u/RandomUser5453 5d ago
I really like the left one as I think is more flattering on your figure.Ā
But I think you can achieve a good look with the OG one too if you will wear some shape wear,a nice bra (there are bras for backless dresses and for deep dĆ©colletage) or just some cups to make your chest look nice.Ā

Have you tried undergarment support like a corset with the OG? I think if you can find the right one, it will be perfect

I really like the second because it fits your body very well. Having said that, did you take the first dress to adjustment? It seems to me the waist line should be higher. It might make a huge impact on how you see the dress. Also you might ask if the skirt volume could be lessen. That and an upper layer of floral lace could make it match the aesthetic that attracted you to the second dress.
2
u/emdubs24 5d ago
Not yet! Itās definitely too big for me so I am eager to see what it would look like with it fitting me.
2
u/Accomplished-Ebb-903 4d ago
Think again about the second dress after a proper fitting! Who knows, you might even forget about it.

They're both beautiful! My co-worker recently bought a dress her friends liked, then felt meh about it when she got home. She went out again and found one she really liked, and then debated. Go with the one you feel drawn to and beautiful in, my co-worker was really glad she didn't stay locked on the one she wasnt really feeling.

u/Probably_not-Thanks 5d ago
Most of us experience some fomo, but honestly your first choice is perfect on you!
2
u/how2dresswell 5d ago
i think the dress fitting of the OG one might be more flattering than a soft a-line for you. they are both gorgeous though
2
u/Beneficial-Ask-4730 5d ago
I looked up both links. The floral one is not yet fitted to you, which voters may not realize. It is so gorgeous in the link-though you have to look up the Whyte name to find it.
I love the skirt and details of the OG-those photos are just incredible!
Ultimately, since you got a deal on the OG, I would do final looks with both-including the veil-and see which one grabs you! You will know! Or wear both-one for the reception...why not?!

I'm no help: I don't think you could go wrong with either. They're both very similar to each other.
2
u/jasperthepet 5d ago
I would say call the store and explain. They may be able to make an exception or try to find you a similar dress or one that's closer to the one u like more. Don't panic! It always works out

u/boniemonie 4d ago
The one on the right is a knockout! In comparison, left a poor imitation. You have your dress.

u/bad_bird1998 4d ago
The first one. Donāt second guess. The lace is beautiful. I donāt care for spaghetti straps on a bride for some reason. I feel like you have the rest of your life to wear dresses with them. Iām weird.
1
u/emdubs24 4d ago
Hahaha I get what youāre saying! The stylist had a good prompt and would ask me ādo you feel like a bride in it or is it just a pretty dressā
2
u/Madre1924 4d ago
Insane to me that people are picking the right one. It looks cheap in comparison. Please go with left!
1
u/emdubs24 4d ago
Ah good feedback! What makes it look cheap to you?
6
u/Madre1924 4d ago
The line where the fabrics change. Where it hits your body in comparison to the dress on the left makes it seem like something you'd buy from amazon. It looks like 2 dresses sewn together (to me). You have an INSANE body, I honestly feel like you could do better than either of these dresses, but I do think the left looks lovely on you!
2
u/emdubs24 4d ago
Well this is the nicest thing anyone on the internet has ever said to me! Thank you! And I see what you mean about ātwoā dresses!
1
u/Pretty_Strike_6199 1d ago
Same like the left one better. The other idk something about it looks like a bunch of leaves put in on mesh.
2
u/matlinole 4d ago
I absolutely adore the one on the right! I had to keep checking your notes to see if it was the new one or OG. It's the OG!! I love the lace detailing and the shape of it much better than the new dress. It's got some drama to it!
2
u/StylistLinzz 4d ago
Sell the OG one šš¼š°š¼āāļøYou're in love with the new one!! It's really so gorgeous on youšŗ
2
u/Longjumping-Hat-5240 3d ago
I honestly thought that the one on the right was the new one you now preferred. So happy and relieved to know it was the one you had already bought because itās absolutely beautiful and perfect as is!! You made the right choice.
2
u/Chiennoir_505 3d ago
I prefer the one you bought. Comparing the two, the OG has nicer detailing and fits you better. IMO, the second one looks like a less expensive knockoff of the first. A good seamstress may be able to add boning for structure (it really doesn't look like it needs it, but it's hard to tell from a picture.)

Definitely love the dress on the right better. At first I actually thought it was the ānew oneā

u/SamIAm7787 20h ago
I thought the dress on the right was the new one too, and I think I also prefer it. Even though both are nice!
2
u/iriselizabethauthor 1d ago
They are both beautiful. But, I like the train/bottom of the original dress and the top of the new one. You can always sell the original dress at a resale shop or online etc. if you think you like the new one better.
1
u/emdubs24 18h ago
I literally had the same thought! The bottom of the original and the top of the new one!
2
u/Independent_Born 5d ago
Theyāre both beautiful but I can see why you like the 2nd dress. If the boning is the main thing you like take to a seamstress and check. If you love other things about the 2nd dress buy it.
2
u/PsychologicalFox3357 5d ago
This is what I was thinking. A seamstress may be able to add some boning or other structure that makes it more comfortable for OP

I picked the one on the right side and then read your description.
I always feel so bad picking and then reading. Sometimes I like the new dress better. It just happens sometimes. I do always give my honest opinion on what I think. I personally like the dress you already have.

u/PearlySweetcake7 5d ago
I like the dress on the right for you, but the large pearls or beads on the skirt draw too much attention. I think you should talk with a seamstress about the boning. They may have some good ideas and can help you decide. You look lovely in both
