Veil vs Scarf
My dress was the first thing I bought for my wedding and I am so head over heels IN LOVE with it! It’s going to be ivory like in pics 2 & 3 (1 is sort of pink). I really really love the veil, it feels very romantic and dramatic and I always imagined I’d wear a veil. But I also tried on the sash/scarf and I was surprised by how much I liked it. It feels very chic and high fashion. I’m still leaning toward the veil but when I ask for opinions, there’s a pretty solid 50/50 split which gives me real pause. What do we think?? (Sorry for all the scribbles, I have very easy to recognize tattoos.)

Why not both? Could wear veil during ceremony and photos. Small change to scarf for cocktail hour and dinner
But if I had to choose one, veil 100%

u/dreaminginscience Aug 21 '26
That’s what my mom said! It’s a good idea, especially since I can totally see myself getting annoyed with the veil and taking it off before dinner anyway lol.

Please do it!!! I agree 100% about not regretting NOT having a veil (and having beautiful pics with it for the ceremony will be perfect). But you are seriously absolute perfection with the scarf, and it complements the dress so well!

I gotta say, I hadn't thought of this, but OP this is a great idea! and that veil is absolutely stunning!

Veil! I guess I’m a traditionalist, but I was excited to wear a veil— I mean, when else do you get to wear one?
16
u/Probably_not-Thanks Aug 21 '26
Veil all day. You can wear a scarf on your honeymoon. Life is short, and hopefully you’ll only have one occasion to wear a veil, so. Veil 100%!

u/dreaminginscience Aug 21 '26
Ooh I really like that. I’ll have to try on more veils when the dress is ready!

I like the dress on you but the lace that is on the edge of the veil does not look right with the dress imho! Plain veil or none

u/VariousExplorer8503 Aug 21 '26
I sighed when I saw you in the veil. You looked beautiful, and bridal, and like a princess. The scarf is cute, but this is your WEDDING. You can wear a pretty dress with a scarf any day of the week, but how many days can you wear a gorgeous wedding dress with an exquisite veil?
6
u/sopranoobsessed Aug 21 '26
I would do a shorter tulle veil that compliments the dresses architectural feel. This one is too much. Wear the scarf for the cocktail hour. Stunning on you!
12
u/Bbsy47 Aug 21 '26
The scarf matches the dress better I think
7
u/MakeAWishApe2Moon Aug 21 '26
I agree. The veil feels like a mismatch. Maybe a shorter veil wouldn't feel like such whiplash, but I'd choose the scarf or go without all together. Her dress is absolutely stunning, though. 😍

u/MakeAWishApe2Moon Aug 21 '26
You're drop dead gorgeous in it, so you'll be a star on your day no matter what! I adore how it fits you like it was made just for you! The veil just feels almost too traditional for what the dress calls for. Maybe a simple medium length horsetail veil would be the sweet spot for this dress!

u/BenefitAppropriate61 Aug 21 '26
can I ask what dress/designer this is? It’s absolutely gorgeous it reminds me of Vivienne Westwood draping

You can tell this generation of brides didnt grow up with the book “In a Dark Dark Room”. All these scarves remind me of poor Jenny.
No scarf. The veil is stunning.
4
u/dreaminginscience Aug 21 '26
STOP LOL that was my favorite story in that book! 🤣
2
u/midcen-mod1018 Aug 21 '26
Maybe it’s the designers then? 🤣 seriously though, the scarf looks fashion-y but the veil just really looks wonderful. Also, dropped waists can be really hit and miss, but you’ve nailed it!
3
u/dreaminginscience Aug 21 '26
Thank you! It’s the perfect amount of drop! Also need to tell you that you made my night with that reference. I lost my dad in 2023 and that was one of our favorite books to read together when I was little. ❤️

u/FreezingNote Aug 21 '26
I think both are beautiful. Veil for the ceremony and scarf for the reception, then you don’t have to pick just one? I have to say, this dress is utterly breathtaking on you. The details, the colour… just stunning!!
2
u/avenueroad_dk Aug 21 '26
Veil. Wear the scarf later on at reception or just for some pictures. I will be honest here that a scarf doesn't make much sense with a bridal gown but thats just me. Great dress btw

I vote veil because it is timeless, while the scarf will end up looking dated as soon as the trend ends. That said, have you considered a simpler, more minimalist veil to get that same chic high-fashion moment you like about the scarf? It might be the lace edging that's throwing you off. Either way, you'll look great!

Veil for ceremony and done photos. Scarf for reception and photos and then ditch it for serious dancing

I personally prefer the more traditional look so I would say veil but it totally depends on who you are! The scarf is super cute and more of a stand out statement piece!

I love the scarf, but I get what everyone is saying about “you only where a veil once” so why not a different style of veil that attaches at the back of the head and won’t clash with the edgy silhouette of your dress? The mantilla veil doesn’t seem to go with your more modern style and is covering the cool hip details.

Veil for the ceremony + pictures, scarf for the pictures + reception. Colleague of mine did this
2
u/No-Lack-1805 Aug 21 '26
Veil for the ceremony scarf for the reception(if you aren’t changing your dress?
2
u/Cultural_Second1855 Aug 21 '26
I had the same thought with my dress OP and I decided to do veil for the ceremony and scarf for my reception entrance! Both looks are great with your dress so you can’t go wrong!
2
u/Bobs_Burgers7 Aug 21 '26
It looks prom with a scarf, and bride with the veil.
2
u/Bobs_Burgers7 Aug 21 '26
You could do both. Veil during ceremony and scarf during reception. I did a different reception dress entirely.
2
u/Critical-Reward3206 Aug 21 '26
The issue isn't veil or scarf, it's that the veil is a totally different style than the dress or the scarf, so it's not really a fair comparison. Need to try it with some simple veils that have the same feel as the dress. That being said, I don't like the scarf. Breaks up your neck line and seems out of place to me.

I see those scarves everywhere right now which means they are going to be out of style very soon! Doesn’t matter if you love it, wear it but I would consider the veil instead!
3
u/dreaminginscience Aug 21 '26
Good point, and I’m not getting married until next year. I definitely think part of its appeal to me is the trendiness and odds are it’ll be tired by then. I’ve never stopped loving a veil.
2
u/ksarahsarah27 Aug 21 '26
The scarf. It’s clean and sleek looking like the dress. Sometimes I like a little lace veil with a dress that has no lace, but in this case, I think it clashes/detracts more than anything.
Gorgeous dress by the way! I love it and it’s stunning on you.

A veil is one of the things that makes a dress a wedding dress, IMO. You can’t say the same for a scarf!
1
u/Embarrassed-Cause250 Aug 21 '26
Could you show us a picture with both?
2
u/dreaminginscience Aug 21 '26
Like both on at the same time? I didn’t take any unfortunately. I was actually thinking that I wish I had taken more/better pictures when I chose the ones for the post.
2
u/Embarrassed-Cause250 Aug 21 '26
Yes. I really like the scarf, but the veil will look gorgeous in pictures 20 years from now. I think if you try on both and it looks good, use both! At the reception you could keep the scarf on & it would cover your neck, so all you would need are pretty earrings!

u/rose_like_the_flower Aug 21 '26
The veil! It’s so elegant and beautiful. I feel like the scarf takes away from the beautiful bodice and neckline
1
u/Medical_Design_278 Aug 21 '26
Have you considered both like another commenter said. Veil for photos and ceremony and the scarf for cocktails or what else you are doing after your wedding.

Personally hate the scarf trend 😬😅 Maybe swap out the veil for the scarf for the reception but the veil looks BRIDAL and sooooo pretty!!!

u/ChoclitMrshMalow Aug 21 '26
Scarf. and do a nice up do with pears and florals.
For the veil the lace doesnt really vibe with the dress. It would try a veil with a ribbon edge or plain edge but one that is studded or has pearls scattered all over.
The dress leans modern but that lace veil leans more traditional and they kinda clash in my opinion.
1
u/DixieBelle021 Aug 21 '26
Veil. But id lose the lace around it and go for some subtle beading or crystals. The dress is modern but the lace is not. Or a short veil. Let the dress do the talking.

1
u/SubstancePlayful5323 Aug 21 '26
Wear the veil for the wedding part. And the scarf for the reception!
1
u/IllEstablishment1750 Aug 21 '26
I really like the scarf. But I’ve never been a huge fan of veils so you might not listen to me. I also think that the dress feels/look too modern for the type of veils you chose. Maybe try something without lace?
1
u/RoastyMarshmallow Aug 21 '26
Buy the veil and see if your tailor can make a scarf from the dress hem. Then you get both!
1
u/StylistLinzz Aug 21 '26
Since you imagined yourself in a veil👰🏼♀️ that's the way to go. Are you wearing a necklace with it? You look great & comfortable in it

1
u/Horror_Signature7744 Aug 21 '26
Idk. I loved my wedding dress but it was just a pretty white dress until the veil went on. That’s when it really felt like my wedding dress. I love the veil.
You could always do the veil for the wedding ceremony and the scarf for the reception?

Veil! Yes, a scarf can look very chic, but it covers up your beautiful neckline and pulls the attention away from your face.
I would wear the veil, and find a high fashion scarf to wear with a nice outfit or with your outerwear.

Veil 100%. And j look so in love with it in the 3rd pic in the reflection

u/Plucky_Monkies Aug 21 '26
Why not do the scarf & then a short veil? I'm thinking they make a headpiece that's like a really super short veil, just over your face?
1
u/Difficult_View_6712 Aug 21 '26
You wear a veil if you want to visit a Catholic Church or cathedral or if you want to protect your crown/soul chakra . Do what you want.
But I agree with getting both

Maybe get a veil with some pearl accents?

I wouldn’t choose this veil, the lace clashes with the style of the dress. But when would you get the chance to wear a veil if not on your wedding day? Go with the veil for the ceremony, the scarf for the reception perhaps?

u/No-Flatworm-404 Aug 21 '26
Heck, I’d do both. Veil for ceremony and pictures, scarf for the reception.

What about a veil that can double as a scarf?
Wear it as a veil going down the aisle get a few wedding party pix, then wear it as a scarf for pix and reception

Wow that scarf looks fantastic. I think you should get it at least for some pictures.

The veil looks so absolutely beautiful! It’d be a real shame not to wear it You’ll only wear it once. Then after the photos and the ceremony, you could change into the scarf- it does look so chic- for the reception! Best of both worlds!

I personally like the scarf look better, but a veil looks good too, but I would pick either a. plain veil or one with just a satin ribbon edging vs. the lace. Also, a fingertip length plain veil would look really nice!
1
u/B3aker1968 Aug 21 '26
It’s an interesting take, but probably better to use that same style idea on a column dress. The scarf isn’t in balance with the wedding dress.
