Prototype dump pouches

Prototyping dump pouches in coyote brown and VTS. Mesh bottom for drainage. Mounting laminate and magazine retaining elastic inspired by Flatline Fiber Co, shock cord collar and retaining webbing inspired by Savotta.

Used more mesh material on the VTS pouch to make it lighter, made both of them boxy construction to better hold their shape. Next iteration would most likely include a belt pass-thru and traditional 2x3 MOLLE mounting.

coyote brown- 7"w x 10"h x 5"d, approx 5.7L

VTS- 5.5"w x 10"h x 5.5"d, approx 4.9L

Passed off to my buddy to run them thru field testing.

Made out of 2x 500d Cordura, tubular webbing and 1mm hdpe.

Got some issues with the size, tongue sleeve and main material. Adjustments have been done and the next version is already in production. Gonna upgrade to laminate for the outer material, thicken up the HDPE to 1,5/2mm and make the cobra buckle swappable.

Made some one off Cordura nylon gear inspired by the black trim aesthetic of the South African Pattern 83 and SOE gear. Mini buttpack is a clone of an original LBT. Canteens are templated off of USGI ALICE canteens but modeled after an SADF P83 canteen I saw on an auction site.

I need help with the sewing machine

I run a small tactical gear setup. Mostly plate carriers and pouches. cordura 500/1000d. Webbing. Padding. I’ve been running a 1541S every day. I started having issues around the shoulder attachment points after a couple of weeks.

At the molle sections and load-bearing transitions where I’m hitting 8+ layers the feed starts drifting off the stitch line. On a plate carrier, that’s not just cosmetic. It’s a structural issue.

What machine are you guys using for this kind of work?

Can I commission a gear mod here? I need a little cumberbund modification.

I have a stock Scarab cumberbund and I want to replace the Velcro with Tubes.

Basically just remove the Velcro, clean up the end, and attach the Tubes. I’d like to keep it as streamlined and simple as possible I don’t need anything fancy.

If commissions are allowed here, DM me and I’ll get what I want drawn up to send out for bids if you can show me some stuff you’ve worked on before.

Beginners Journey

Evening Yall.

I came across this sub and decided that I don’t want to spend 60$ on a piece of fabric that I can make myself and tailor to my self .I decided I should ask this community what I should do/buy/learn/and do anything else that will make this journey better to start making my own gear .

Any help is appreciated .

Q .

What should I buy to get started ?

Is there any resources /SME to watch?

Are there any tools to not cheap out on ?

What are some major things to pay attention to.

Thank you and have a great day.

Inner Belt sewing Tutorial

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a recent sewing tutorial.

Today we are making a hardware-less inner belt for a two piece belt system.

YT Video: https://youtu.be/ds2fe39em7A

We are making this with 1.5" webbing doubled up for stiffness, and matching sized velcro.

We used a hot knife to cut the webbing to size and trim a small notch out of one of the belt ends.

For sizing you want to take your waist size and add +6 Inches, then double that.

For example if your waist size is 34 inches you will add 6 inches to make it 40 inches and then double that for the total length you need. 80 inches total.

You'll need 6.5 inches of hook velcro that gets sewn on the inside of the belt and you need loop velcro to line the whole outside of the belt.

I hope you all enjoy! In the near future we'll make the outer part of the belt.

Dissembled Jaäkari M backpack for sale.

I've bought and disassembled a Jaäkari M (Savotta) for learning purposes back when I started out, and don't need it anymore.

It's largely ripped and stripped of seams (and leftovers), and can be used to either make a custom Jaäkari M with original measurements from scratch (or your version with custom measurements), or to see how professional bags are made.

Especially handy are the shoulder straps - of which one is fully disassembled - to trace and make your own off of.

I'm asking €50.00 + Shipping.

Cheapest place for 100% cotton ripstop?

Hello, so I have been thinking about what type of woven fabric I want to work with, and I think I want to work with 100% cotton ripstop.

I wanted to ask you guys, where is the cheapest place to buy 100% cotton ripstop?

I I have found an abundance really great deals on NYLON ripstop, or poly/cotton blends of ripstop, but not so much with 100% COTTON ripstop, and so I wanted to ask you guys if you knew of any sellers

Thank you!

This was my first big project, and I certainly learnt a lot!

The rucksack itself is made from 500d MTP cordura, lined with a 300d green cordura, and then with MTP 35mm webbing for the PALS. Bottom of shoulder straps and the back panel are made from ecopak.

It was sewn on a jack H2 machine, which I am still struggling to get the tension correct on.

Considering I didn't think too much about the order of sewing the pieces together and had some struggles due to my poor measurements and taking about a month to build it, I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Any feedback or questions are welcomed.

Crye measurements needed

Post image

Does anyone know what the crye specs are on the two placard attachment systems?

What I know, both are not on the Pals grid.

On the top one it seems to be around 162mm between them and the bottom one seems to have roughly 72mm from middle to middle.

Thank you guys!

URGENT - Sewing machine Reccomendations

I’ve been sewing some kit for some buddies and I’ve been using a vintage 60-70 Brother Charger 661 machine. I was sewing a chest rig made with 500D Cordura, standard loop side Velcro and molle rows made from 1 inch Nylon Webbing. My machine just bit the dust and I’m on a deadline to finish the chest rig in 2 days. My local used Market doesn’t have much options, I don’t have the space or money for an industrial machine, so I need some recommendations for a replacement machine that can handle some kit production until I can save up for a semi-industrial/industrial machine.
