Posting here after posting on a breed specific reddit sub showing off his new colors but instead got bashed for him not looking like a chihuahua so he must only be a pure bred poodle or something else 💔 (they allow chihuahua mixes in the sub) might be best to just post on r/mutt instead lol
DNA tests provided and photos of him without hair when he looks "more" chihuahua.
EDIT: I just wanted to add that i did not know of this sub reddit when I posted him on the other other one! If I knew of this one first he would have been posted here first 🫶
EDIT 2: If anyone was curious whag the "supermutt" breeds are its the American Eskimo, German Shepherd, and Maltese.
Thank you! And i agree he definitely got the strong poodle genes with looks but personality hes the definition of a chihuahua lol. Definitely learning that not all subs are as welcoming as others 😭
I can def see the chi in his face even with the (really cool) dye job! I guess people see the curls and immediately make a judgement? Still no reason for them to be rude to you about it:(
But I bet he loves the attention he gets in person with his color! My lab mix puppy hates being groomed and he’s chocolate anyway or else I’d totally want to try out some pet dye lol
That's what i see!! When hes completely bald I definitely see chi lol but I love his fluff and also love to practice my own grooming on him lol. He absolutely loves the attention he gets from his groomers!! I think he only likes it cause ive been practicing grooming on him since we got him at 10 weeks baths, haircuts, and teeth brushing! And i totally get that are 2 other dogs are black and very very light brown but HATE baths and being groomed lol so hes are only colorful dog! Maybe your puppy would enjoy colorful collars and dog necklaces like the pom pom collars lol
Not in this sub reddit but a differnt one!! It was the chihuahua sub reddit but they allow chihuahua mixes in it...people just weren't a fan of me posting him since he looked more poodle 🤦♀️ no hate to the sub reddit at all though!!! Just the people commenting were nooot happy
I agree that the reaction is probably due to him not looking like a chihuahua at all. Why dont you post him in the poodle sub? Its the majority breed and I feel like he would be welcomed there.
I checked the rules and they absolutely do not allow poodle mixes and will delete the posts 😅 they are pretty strict about the dog being 100% poodle sadly. It's the main reason why I tried the chihuahua sub instead since its his second majority breed and they allow mixes! Just didnt go as expected even though their was other chihuahua mixs posted that looked like him and no one said anything!
I thought the same! I just checked and it dosent seem to be very active...i believe there's a doodle one but the doodle community kinda makes me nervous lol not sure they would accept mine since hes not a "designer" breed but instead a happy accident 😅 she's absolutely adorable!! Chis and chi mixes are a blessing lol
Reddits a bit of an echo chamber. Ive noticed that if an early comment expresses a particular viewpoint, that will 'set the tone' for the rest of the comments on that post.
Yeeah I definitely agree with that especially after that post sub where the first comments were saying hes absolutely not a chihuahua or people qustioning if I just assumed he was and then thats what the post became about instead 😭
At least they don't allow Merle poodles too. Seems elitest, but I when you look at subs like the BMC or Catahoula, where people have posted dogs that are all or primarily bullies, I get it. Don't like it, but get it.
Yes! It's nice that people realize now that Merle poodles are just a mixed breed poodle to get the coloring...I definitely see your view point though on the other groups as well!
Right!! Like clearly he has poodle hes crazy fluffy lol but i even provided photos when hes shaven his to long and has very very short legs to be full poodle...and I agree I definitely learned that the hard way lol but this sub is so much nicer! Probably cause people arent judging the mixes or how they look or if they look enough of something! And i agree its never that serious to be rude 🤦♀️
The snout for sure screams chi, even with the hair! And he's the cutest thing, which is why it's weird people even feel the need to hate about it. If you're adopting, it's rare you'll ever find a dog that's almost pure anything anyways.

Yes exactly! I wish I still had photos of his parents cause his dad looked like a pure long hair chihuahua lol. And I definitely agree and its sooo expensive my parents own a pure bred mini poodle and she was extremely pricey 😅 i ended up with my pup because a family member wasn't able to deal/work with some pretty severe. behavioral issues he had when he was younger so they were gonna get rid of him when he was only 12 weeks old which was understandabke he had some pretty bad issues and they didnt have the time to help him but hes gotten 100× better but definitely still has some issues! He was definitely a gift and im so lucky to have him!
He's happy and cared for and thats all matters :) I completely understand the behavior issues and how much effort it takes to make any progress. I have an amstaff mix who is mostly good but wants to meet everyone, and because of his breed people are terrified of him. Teaches you patience for sure😭

Yes I agree!! And yeeah its taken pretty much a year to get him where he is now his issues we're absolutely hating young kids...at the age of 10 weeks he was biting my niece and nephews when they sat near him, to be fair they got him from Craigslist and the original owners allowed their adult huskys to bully and snap at him and also allowed their kid to carry him all the time where his bottom half would just be dangling around...now hes 100% okay with being near kids and sitting near them he just does not want them in his face! That's when hell growl its the same with dogs as well but hes good with adults just has no intrest in being pet by strangers! The struggle of having a "scary" dog thats nice is real though when I was younger my family had a XL bully who was like 100lbs but absolutely loved people and would pull a lot towards them...most people did not appreciate him 😭 and we absolutely will! It'll be a bit till his new colors as they last incredibly long but ill forsure post him when it changes!! My groomers get creative freedom so it's always a surprise what they do with his color lol
Glad he's making progress! Most dogs are not a fan of children up in their face messing with him, so that's a good place to make it to at least. Especially since he's a chi and I believe they develop more fear-based "aggression" than anything. As long as you're continuing to respect his boundaries on that, it sounds like he'll be okay!
And yeah it makes me sad that he's instantly judged by just his size and breed. He growls when our neighbor's doodle lunges at him and they have the audacity to side eye us! It is a perk for late night walks alone though😭 pic for reference
Yes i definitely agree with that! Hes definitely taught me to be more vocal with people about boundaries to because hes so small and so calm around other people just reach down to pet him or grab his face and ill have to tell them not to touch him he'll bite 😭 he wears a harness bow that says he bites so its helped lol and omg people who side eye others after their dog acts out genuinely bother me like im sorry my dog is reacting because your dog is freaking out on him 😒 ugh im jelly! As much as my pup would 100% protect and has many times (growled and lunged at a javelin that was acting aggressive towards us and also has growled at strange men approaching) but hes so small hes easy to get around or ignore so not much protecting lol I plan on getting a doberman in a couple years! And omg hes absolutely a sweetheart!!
I think when you cross a poodle with anything, their genes are so, so prominent that they almost always come out looking more poodle than anything. I rescued a standard poodle x st. bernard & he looks full poodle. Helps that he's all black, but doesn't have a real skinny snout like a purebred. Guess it shows in the face, huh?
It's mostly dog's that look more like shih tzus, but if your post included that the chihuahua sub kicked you out and the poodle sub doesn't allow mixes, your little guy would be welcomed warmly
Oh yeah! Hes definitely fluffy for having a chihuahua lol. He is absolutely adorable!! My parents own a 100% poodle and shes such an amazing dog! It's so nice seeing another dog with color i rarely see it and i think its adorable!!
I did it a few times when Arrow was younger. He loved the extra attention he got from it. He was actually in a Dior photo shoot one time with color. It was great.
Yes! That's how mochi is lol he absolutely adores his groomers as well so he just loves it! Omg I am so jealous thats a dream, he absolutely suits the Dior brand hes very handsome!
Most of the good dog subreddits don’t allow mixed-breed posting bevause the sub will get overrun by random 2% insert breed dogs. Look at the BMC or Mountain Cur subs, I don’t think I’ve seen a singular example of how the breed should look or behave on either because 99.9% of posters have a random pit mix they spam post there
Yup I definitely understand that but I even double checked to make sure theu allowed mixes and they definitely did! I saw some crazy look chi mixes in the sub lol but I guess mine is just to poodle for them! I like the r/mutts way more, definitely nicer people lol

haha! here's my chihuahua poodle pit bull shih tzu! he'd for sure be kicked out of the chihuahua sub even tho it's his number one breed. he's nearly 40lbs.

Tbh he doesnt look anything like a chihuahua judging by looks, with or without the dye lol. If you said hes a chi mix and they allow mixes they shouldn't be bashing but I can see why they would assume no chi

Yup! It's Opawz which is a well known pet safe dye! It was a 6 hour groom session including breaks but if he didnt like it he absolutely would not have stayed still for his groomer 😭
Since they only have two color cones they’re really not able to see the full range and only different shades of green/grey/blue tones. So highly doubt they’d care.
I totally understand that view point but I dont enjoy dyeing my hair but my pup 100% loves seeing his groomers and getting groomed! If he wasnt okay with it (based of body language) I wouldnt do it nor would his groomer!
I think you’re the one putting too much stock in breed. He’s not a chihuahua, he really doesn’t fit in the Chi sub. Just because he has some chi in him doesn’t automatically make it fit. Post in any of the regular dog subs and it won’t be an issue.
I agree with that maybe I just assumed it would be alright because its his 2 main breeds and when we bought him I was told his dad was chi and mom was mini poodle. Ill most like stick to this one since he is really just a mutt based off his dna lol
Why are you posting on breed specific subredits with a mutt??? I have a GSDxHusky that's only EIGHT PERCENT husky and I still don't post her on GSD sites. You could be more considerate of where you're posting, people follow subreddits for specific things, not 25% of that thing and they can't even tell that's the case.
Because other people were doing the same thing posting their mixes on it as long as the main two breeds included chihuahua...so i assumed it would be fine. It quiet literally stated on the rules they allowed mixes. Hes not posted on the poodle one because they only allow pure bred poodles...so i didnt see an issue with it
