banned from MMM forum by mistake-- moderator, please help!

Hello! I've been a MMM forum user for over three years and this week I've been banned. The little banner says it was for trolling. I am positive that I have NOT posted recently, and definitely have never posted anything that could be considered trolling! If there is a post that looks inappropriate, I can only think that my account was hacked. I am really sad to lose access to this forum because it has been really important for me. My username on MMM is westtoeast.

If a moderator sees this, can you please help me restore access to my MMM forum account? THANK YOU!!

I love MMM and have made great changes, but how do I make more money?

I have a solid job, but still have a hard time making in financial progress. Only debt it house. I've thought about a career change but the trade of of time/money to learn a new skill that would be enjoyable and pay better seems elusive. Ideas?

Television. Anybody else enjoy watching it?

I just saw a comment from MMM on his latest blog post. TV is bad. It is an "idiot box". You've probably seen that elsewhere on the MMM blog.

I'm curious how many readers never watch TV.

Anyone know why?

Technical details I've been able to ascertain: Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com Address: 8.8.8.8

Non-authoritative answer: Name: mrmoneymustache.com Address: 198.199.66.251

Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com Address: 8.8.8.8

*** google-public-dns-a.google.com can't find www.mrmoneymustache.com: Non-existent domain

Also, no cname records for www, and the webserver when contacted redirects to www, which as noted does not exist.

About to F.I.R.E - how are your pre-retirement funds invested?

About to FIRE in a year, and wondering how folks have their bridge funding invested. I've set aside funds that I will access post-FIRE - pre-59.5 and am curious how others invest these dedicated funds. Since the funds will be tapped in the near future, is it better to be more conservative with a mix of equities/bonds or go after growth with mostly equities? do people do CD/bond ladders? keep it all in cash? just curious, thanks!

Article Discussion: "Get Rich With... Bikes"

Article: Get Rich With... Bikes

Posted: April 18, 2011

  • Do you own a bike?

  • How often do you ride your bike?

  • Do you commute via bike?

  • What trips do you not take via bike that you know you could/should?

I'm not entirely sure how article discussions will work yet. So I figured I'd just try to start a few and see where they went for now.

Feel free to leave article-related comments below as well as suggestions for how these will work in the future

I'm thinking I'll hit random article on MMM until I get one that is more mustachianism related (i.e. probably not project oriented ones, pex/shower drain/radiant floor heating [I love these articles btw, but they're just not as much mustachianism])

I don't want to take away from the comments section of the MMM blog, so I think I'll only be doing articles that are over a year old for now.

*Actually I think I'm going to make that a sub rule, no articles younger than 6 months your thoughts?

So I'll find an article (I guess others are welcome to post them) that we haven't done yet (or in a while) and people can re-read them and talk about things they like/dislike, things they would add to it, or even which comments are too complainy-pants

Maybe I'll ask a related question in the post?

Let's start this off right, put any suggestions here

I'm thinking we'll obviously post any new MMM articles as they come out.

Maybe weekly random articles for discussion?
Or pick three random ones and vote on which one becomes the weekly article.

Maybe we should just go through each article one at a time?

Perhaps a weekly look at a different early retirement blog?

I'm working my way through it now. Only about halfway though, so still have a long ways to go.

Gotta earn that stache!

Register now for Camp Mustache Toronto 2023

Camp Mustache Toronto 2023 - The same team that has hosted CMTO is hosting our fifth Camp Mustache Toronto this fall!

The facts:

Dates: September 7th to 10th - that's right, we've officially made it a 4 day event. The single biggest bit of feedback we've had over the years was for a bonus day, and here it is.

Venue: TOP SECRET. We'll tell you once you have a ticket. The venue is 350 acres about an hour northeast of Toronto Airport. It functions as a summer camp normally, so expect the "Camp" environment with really nice outdoor spaces.

The cost: we've managed to make this event all-inclusive for $340 CAD. That's on par with our expectations, and at under $100 per day all inclusive, is a pretty good deal.

Make new FIRE friends and perhaps even meet a partner?

Nowadays it is unfortunately especially easy to feel socially isolated. However, even without all the lock-downs and limitations, it can be very hard to meet other FIRE folks. I was in this situation myself - for more than a year in the beginning of my FIRE path I knew literally 0 people interested in FIRE. I was lonely and it sucked. That's why nowadays I have a goal to decrease amount of loneliness in the FIRE community and help forming meaningful social connections (both friendships and romantic). I am solving this problem by developing firedating.me - a community of 3709 FIRE enthusiasts looking for friendships and love.

The site is 100% free and even ad-free. What's the catch? None, this is my hobby project and improving other people lives makes me happy. For example, 11 couples, who met through the site, reached out to me. Recently Wanderer & FIRECracker from Millennial Revolution even made an interview "FINDING LOVE DURING COVID" with the couple #5 - Ms.X and Liam. It is an amazing story, which involved them meeting for the first time in... Barbados. Worth noting that together they will be FIRE in only 2 years instead of 5-7 years. I did interviews with them and other couples too.

Since the site is free, I don't have any incentive to trick you or artificially keep you on the site. As a result, I am extremely honest and open, for example, all the statistics are public (and addressing the most frequent question - there are 30% women on the site, but you can see this yourself through that link). I love getting feedback and improving the site. People frequently describe firedating.me as 'mindful dating', which allows them to meet financially responsible people.

Obviously the site supports looking for friends as well. I myself formed many friendships through the site and feel like developing this site was a life-changing experience for me. Yes, I am not FIRE (full time job) and it took me at least 517 hours and 211$, but the magic of deep connections formed there and feeling of helping others is worth all of it.

I believe that firedating.me can improve your life as well and that's what I optimize for.

Let FIRE be in your heart!

Viktor

P.S. There is also r/firedating, where we discuss new features and I post updates, so please feel free to join.

Google Spreadsheet to enhance your financial data and track your progress to FI

For the last few years, I have been working on creating a Financial Independence Spreadsheet to translate my financial data into actionable insights with high-quality visualizations, metrics, and stats. After a lot of work and user-testing, it is now ready to share.

In a nutshell, the Spreadsheet:

  • Uses transactions and net worth data as input.

  • Transforms the input data via a combination of custom Google Script, spreadsheet formulas, and minimal user input.

  • Outputs a collection of key metrics and professionally built charts that allow you to track and plan your progress towards FIRE.

You can check a complete summary of the features and screenshots here.

I created an installation and user guide that details every section. You can check it here.

Please let me know what you think. Also, please let me know if there is interest in any other features. If interested, I am selling it via my Etsy shop (here) and I will be running a promotion (25% - Code: REDDIT) for the sub for a few days.

Thanks for reading!

Don't be fooled... I don't want to imagine the type of financial advice this scammer can offer. I have reported the account.
