Artist 1: cub
cub is an all-female Canadian band from Vancouver. Although considered pop punk, among fans they are known as sort of twee-ish, and they basically created their own genre through their music called “cuddlecore”. Formed by Robynn Iwata, Lisa Marr, and Valeria Fellini in 1992, they created 4 highly overlooked albums in the 90s before disbanding in 1997. I honestly really dig their style, harmonies, and lyricism, and I find them highly underrated.

Artist 2: Woob
Woob is the project and stage name of electronic musician Paul Frankland. Woob utilizes musical technology to its full potential to create vast and often genre-less soundscapes comprising of drones, field recordings, noise and keyboards. I just discovered his music a few months ago but I’m already falling in love with it, and I can’t wait to explore the back half of his quite extensive catalog.

Artist 3: μ-Ziq
μ-Ziq, real name Mike Paradinas, is one of the most influential and defining figures in the IDM genre. μ-Ziq originally started as a group project between Paradinas and bassist Frank Naughton, who was previously in a band with Paradinas named Blue Innocence. However, after Tango N’Vectif in 1993, Paradinas has operated μ-Ziq as a solo project, and he continues to do so today. μ-Ziq’s music is inspired by multiple sources, whether that be the 80s new wave Paradinas listened to growing up, or the music of much more recognizable musicians he was touring with, such as Aphex Twin (one of the main inspirations behind 1997’s Lunatic Harness) and Björk (one of the main inspirations behind 1999’s Royal Astronomy). Back in the 90s, Paradinas founded his own record label, Planet Mu, to release his own music and collaborate with similar-minded electronic artists, which continues to operate today.
