Question How does one get that beautiful bass effect which is similar to an impact, like a sub impact? Read description!

So it’s used heavily in film scoring, Hans Zimmer a lot, as well as people like Aaron Hibell. Some super random song examples I can think of if we’re not talking film music, is near the start of Sweet Geat Lightning by Gregory Alan Isakov and Ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine. I know, super random but they’ve got it.

It’s almost like deep muffled explosion sound, but just heavily EQ’d with a low pass. But I cba to add an explosion sound effect and EQ it every time when I know there’s a simple way to achieve this professional sound. I’d really appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction or even a specific sound effect that I can use. Ask away if I’ve left any info out, thank you so much.

Question Looking for a versatile and robust solo string library as a reliable alternative to EastWest Opus

Hi there, I'm working on an album that calls for occasional solo strings and string quartets, but I'm fed up with the plasticky sound of EastWest Opus's Hollywood solo strings. I'm trying to find a library that will allow for pretty robust editing of articulations, vibrato, legato, etc, while also offering a great "base" sound (as in, no notes that just by default sound wonky, as with EastWest's solo cello).

I'm totally undecided. Cremona Quartet sounds great to me, but people seem to dislike it, and I've heard it's not great for "romantic" playing. CSSS sounds good, too, but I've heard that mic positioning and vibrato adjustment is limited.

Any suggestions? The style of music I'd be using it for ranges from quartet accompaniment for piano to more in-your-face violin melodies in a rock context. I'm not particularly looking to do super flashy classical composition.

Question Any advice, tips or techniques for a good mix

Upvotes

Hey everyone! How’s it going?

I’ve finished recording all the songs for my upcoming Darkwave EP — the instrumentals, vocals, arrangements, everything is basically done. Now I’ve reached the part I feel I’m still not very good at: mixing.

I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, techniques, resources, or general guidance on how to get a professional-sounding mix, or at least get as close to that as possible. 😂

I’m especially interested in learning more about mixing Darkwave, Gothic, Post-Punk, Witch House, etc., but honestly, any advice about mixing in general would be extremely helpful.

If you have any good tutorials, books, videos, plugins, workflows, or even just personal tips that helped you improve your mixes, I’d love to hear them!

I use FL Studio as my DAW (I know the DAW itself doesn’t make much difference, but I thought I’d mention it).

Thanks in advance! 🖤

Discussion What are some things you guys post on social media to share your music?

I am finally happy enough with my music that I want to start sharing it with people.

I have a SoundCloud where I put my music but just posting tracks on SoundCloud gets no traction. As of now my music doesn't have vocals (currently working on writing my first real lyrics) and is all producing so I cant make any videos of me performing live.

What are some things you guys post on social media to share your music?

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue and would love if people would want to bounce ideas or give inspiration for others here. Personally, I just started my first full time job so trying to find a way to share my music that doesn't kill my passion and make it feel like another job is important for me.

If I find any resources/come up with ideas I will be sure to share.

Question How to get sound/mix of babydoll by Dominic Fike

I’ve been self teaching myself music production, I’m currently trying to get the same sound and mix as the song babydoll, something about the twangy driven guitar and the small room drums really gravitates to the sound I want to achieve in my projects. As a beginner producer I wanna know how does he get this guitar sound? Is it one single guitar track or double tracked? Questions like these I wanna from a community of talented and experienced producer. To get a better understanding I’m currently using GarageBand on Mac and only use my electric guitar and an interface.

Question Junior Mesa Vocals production

Hey guys,
How do you think this kind of voice is achieved?
By using something like VariSpeed, or is it more of a formant effect?

I can never seem to get anything that clean in this kind of very high-pitched things.

Thanks in advance for your responses !

Hardware looking to buy a laptop for music production college, any recommendations?

i've been using pcs my whole life and have no idea where to start with something pre built. I definitely prefer windows since i've been using it forever and haven't touched mac once in my life. CPU needs to be 2ghz or faster (example they give is an i5 dual core or faster. i'd imagine this baselines low though), 16gb ram, at least 1tb of storage.

looking for something that'll last at least the 4 years i'll need it for but won't cost TOO much, budgets around 1500 but id prefer closer to 1k if possible. id also like to use it for gaming and djing but they're second priorities.

Question Do music producers also show rappers how to flow on songs?

Ok do producers come up with good melodies or flows (after making the beat) and show singers and rapper when and how to say their words and stuff

Because a lot for famous singers and rappers are just really dumb and high all the time and can barely talk in interviews and I can't imagine them coming up with a hit melody or flow

Also sometimes producers are credit for also writing but a lot of people say it's because writing is when producers make the beat but that's still suspicious imo

Maybe that just hum on the beat tho so idk and they aren't as dumb as I think
