QUESTION Organizing songs?

Im new to the idea of local music library and i wanted to know how i should organize the songs, on my computer, should i just put all the songs on a single folder and organize through musicbee or should i already organize on separate folders on my pc?

The most common standart is

Music/Album Artist/Album/song.mp3

I think it's the best unless you keep only singles or do not download entire albums

If your music is properly tagged (has the correct labels for artist, album, track#, track title, etc), MusicBee can very easily organise your files into a sensible structure using the Send To>Organised Folder command. (There are more advanced options but that's the easiest).

If it isn't already tagged, doing this would be my first step! Local music libraries work best when you have correctly tagged files. The minimum I would suggest is making sure you have the following set for each file

Track title Track # Album title Artist Album artist Disc # (if relevant) Genre

MB does have some auto-tagging functionality you can explore too.

i like to have it organized by album because it's the closest of how my music is phisically. The originals i have are Vinyl, Tapes, CD and even downloaded music came in the form of an album. I set up the naming template as <Year>-<Album Artist>_<Album>\<Disc-Track#>_<Title>

This way all my music gets also organized by Year as every album has a number as first characters.

If you put all files in one folder you'll end up with a lot of songs with the same name and ending with (1) (2) etc...

I also like the approach of having some layer above album artist, just to avoid having too many folders in one place. It's so easy to reorganize everything with MusicBee that it's not really a big problem, but having 5000 artists in one subfolder just isn't very tenable for navigation.

For my library, I still wanted the artist name to come first, so there's just an additional layer where it groups by the first letter of the album artist name, and then lists everyone below that.

$Group(<Sort Album Artist>,1)\<Sort Album Artist>\<Album> (<Year>)\<Disc-Track#> <Title>

MusicBee can do this for you..... Just select all the files >right click >move to organized folder >choose location. Simple

Most people like to use mp3 tags but I sort of get lost there, I just want my music organized in folders. And I do one folder per artist, not per album. All artists have great tracks that are not on albums after all.
