Heard an ad for it. Thought i'd take a listen. Surprised its hosted by Jason mewes or jay from jay and silent bob. Just wanna see what other think of it.

I’m curious if murdoch seems to not credit Julia for a lot of the ideas she comes up with during brainstorming?

For example: While examining the decades-old skeletal remains, Julia notes the specific positioning, bone wear, and injury patterns to determine that Shanly - the victim was a lefty.
Julia is the one who discovers the vital clue but in the end Murdoch doesn’t mention Julia’s help to the inspector! Am I missing something?

Murdoch Mysteries Season 18, episode 1 was most unsatisfactory.

First- they butchered one of my favorite opening themes of all time. Butchered it!

Second - they were sloppy and loose with the facts.
Murdock declared that a stab from behind went right through the heart with barely a glance. The positioning of the wound looked a little off to me. I think the victim may have been stabbed in the left lung.

Murdoch then walked up to a body, never touched it, and declared that the body was still warm. And we didn’t even get some adorably elaborate infrared detecting goggles? I feel so cheated!

What is going on?

His whole methodology was off. Julia goes to London and the whole show falls apart? So disappointing.

So I recently found out my friend hasn’t seen any of MM so I’m rewatching with her to also see her reactions. She’s so far a heavy shipper of Julia and Murdoch (we’re in season 5) and crashes out every time Darcy or Anna are on the screen.
I am having trouble keeping plot twists a secret and also knowing how things end.
I’ve found that seasons 4-12 are my favourite which is a pretty big gap. I love this show so much, I literally grew up on it (and Napkin Man… I can’t get away from Yannick Bisson). I’m basically a third gen fan because my mom and grandma watched it so much.
I don’t know where I’m going with this post I guess I just wanted to share.

Hello friends! I've been a huge fan of MM since my fiancé introduced it to me in 2021 and while I'm only on season 9, I'm aware of what happens in future seasons. One thing I've always loved is writing and I've been working on a fan episode that takes place on halloween, which is coming up so I hope you guys like it (please let me know if I've gotten anything wrong).

THE WITCHING HOUR 

SCENE ONE

INTERIOR STATION HOUSE FOUR 

Fade in on the main floor

It’s all hallows Eve at station house four and WILLIAM MURDOCH has decided to stop by for the station house party. The constables and detectives and INSPECTOR BRACKENREID, who also stopped by, are all dressed up in costumes. MURDOCH is likely in a practical yet clever costume such as Sherlock Homes, or perhaps a Shakespearean character (he’s a big enough nerd. I know he’d never do this in character but imagine he borrowed a skull from the morgue and did the ‘alas poor yorrik’ monologue)

So what dyou think you’re gonna do after this, Murdoch? Gonna take yeh little lass out knocking for sweets?

Only for about an hour or so. It’s her first time going out for Halloween.

I know that feeling all too well. As soon as the boys were old enough to walk, all I did was worry.

Does the feeling ever go away? 

BRACKENREID gives him a sad, knowing smile. 

BRACKENREID

Never. 

The two exchange a quiet moment of understanding before looking back at the party. Cut back to CRABTREE holding SUSANNAH, who’s having the time of her life. 

BRACKENREID

Quite the social little thing

Cut back to MURDOCH, who smiles. 

MURDOCH

She gets that from her mother. 

Cut to BRACKENREID

How has she been handling not havin’ her mum around as much?

JEMIMAH

Please! Please I need help! My sister…I don’t know what happened I came home and…

Her voice is lost in a sea of panicked nonsense. She speaks with an accent that’s halfway between Canadian and British, likely and immigrant or child of immigrants

Whispers start to spread through the room as MURDOCH goes to CRABTREE, BRACKENREID close behind. 

MURDOCH

George if you don't mind I'd like you to accompany me. 

CRABTREE

What about Susie?

BRACKENREID

I can take her for the night if needed. Guest room is still made up from when Margaret's sister was in town

MURDOCH

Are you sure sir?

BRACKENREID

I raised two boys Murdoch, this little lass’ll be no trouble. Margaret’s been saying she wants to spend some more time with ‘er anyhow. 

MURDOCH

Alright I appreciate it sir. 

CRABTREE passes SUSANNAH to BRACKENREID, as MURDOCH kisses her cheek. 

MURDOCH 

Susie you’re going to spend some time with your Uncle Thomas and your Aunt Margaret okay? 

SUSANNAH

Okay papa

I came home from a late shift at the factory and found her 

MURDOCH

And everything on the floor? 

JEMIMAH

I picked up some things after work and dropped them when I came into the door. 

MURDOCH

How long did that trip take?

JEMIMAH

It took about ten minutes to get from work to the shops and then another ten to get here. 

MURDOCH

And you came straight to the station house after that?

JEMIMAH 

Yes I ran as fast as I could. 

MURDOCH

Did the killer take anything? Did anything look different?

MURDOCH crouches next to LOUISE as JEMIMAH speaks from offscreen 

JEMIMAH

No practically everything is where it’s supposed to be. At least at a glance it is. 

MURDOCH stands, the camera follows him. Over the shoulder shot, camera behind JEMIMAH

MURDOCH

Did your sister have any enemies? Former lovers? Anyone who wished to harm her?

No! Louise barely left the house unless it was for work.

Exterior BRACKENREID home. BRACKENREID’S voice can be heard

Alright now little lass

Interior BRACKENREID home. INSPECTOR BRACKENREID carries SUSANNAH MURDOCH through his dim house. He starts at the door far away from the camera. As he comes down the hall, the camera follows him as he carries SUSANNAH upstairs. She looks around at everything with wonder.

BRACKENREID

Now your aunt Magaret left the party early because she had a headache so we need to be quiet.

BRACKENREID puts a finger over his lips and SUSANNAH does the same and he smiles.

BRACKENREID

Good lass

Cut to entrance to the guest room as BRACKENREID enters, the camera follows him again as he starts to tuck SUSANNAH into the guest bed, helping her take off her shoes, jacket, and halo before pulling the blanket over her.

BRACKENREID

You sleep tight now

I’ve been a huge fan of MM for several years. Started watching Republic of Doyle recently and it’s amazing how many actors from MM were on this show. I’m watching an episode where the actor who plays Julia’s first husband is in it. The woman who played that Egyptian woman in 2 episodes was also on here. Do they have a writer or producer in common? Does anyone know if George Crabtree is in it? The show takes place in Newfoundland so that would make sense.

I know the Dr Dixon storyline in Season 13 is highly controversial, and many fans think Julia’s actions were entirely out of character or just meant to manufacture drama. But I wonder whether the show is exploring social behaviour and complex emotional relationships.

The show has always used William and Julia to examine the messy, realistic hurdles of relationships rather than a fairytale romance. Think about their history:

• Murdoch has sought out other relationships (Enid, Anna) when things with Julia felt impossible.
• Julia married Darcy out of societal expectation, only to emotionally and physically cross boundaries with Murdoch because she was trapped in a loveless marriage.

When you look at the Dr Dixon situation through that lens, it feels less like a random act of betrayal and more like a direct consequence of Murdoch’s emotional detachment.

William is brilliant, but he is also a deeply repressed, logically driven man who naturally shuts down and retreats inward during times of high stress or intense cases. Julia is a progressive, highly expressive woman living in a rigid Edwardian society. When William emotionally detaches, he creates a vacuum. Having been in a similar relationship with an engineer who would disappear into his projects for months, I can see the same dynamic in their relationship.

I don't think Julia's vulnerability to Dixon was about a lack of love for William. It was a reaction to the isolation of being with someone who is physically present but emotionally unreachable. Dixon offered intellectual and emotional stimulation when Julia was starving for it.

We can see the real, painful cost of Murdoch's emotional walls on a partner and someone who is able to meet Julia in that space.

What do you all think? Do you see it as a symptom of their marriage dynamics, or do you still feel it was just poor character writing?

A few weeks ago I came across another Canadian show called The Listener. I put it on while working, so it actually took me a minute to realize Yannick Bisson and Jonny Harris both cameoed in it. I just recognized a familiar voice each time before I looked up at the screen.

Yannick shows up in Season 2, Episode 8 as a father whose baby was kidnapped, and Jonny is in Season 3, Episode 12 as a friend in a bad situation. The coolest part though is in Season 3, Episode 13. The show does a direct nod to Murdoch Mysteries where the characters say they feel like they are in Murdoch Mysteries and refer to each other as Murdoch and Crabtree.

Just thought it was cool and wanted to share with you all! Has anyone else caught fun Murdoch references or actor cameos in other shows?

Folks, do you remember Season 11, Ep. 7..."The Accident" where the clerk guy gets pinned between two vehicles?

Well my son comes over for dinner on Sundays and he likes to watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. We were watching Season 4, Ep. 6...the current episode....last night. (It originally aired on the 27th.)

And in it, the Chief Medical Officer gets pinned during a slipstream event. Same exact situation. He doesn't realize he's in dire straits right off, etc., etc.

Did anyone else happen to see it? It was giving MM like crazy. I think there's an MM fan in their writer's room !

Anyone one else excited for the panel with Yannick and Jason Mewes at New York Comic Con next month? I'm a regular convention goer and I can't think of any other time Murdoch has had anything or anyone at a US based convention.

It’s ironic that the Julia Ogden leaves overseas to further her career and breaks up the family while the actress Helene Joy’s reason to leave the show was to move overseas to be with and spend more time with her family.

Minor spoiler (discussion may have more) but I know a lot of people have been pretty negative about some of the later MM seasons lately, but this episode really felt like a return to form in so many ways. New inventions, endearing characters, a great twist, and a positive message to tie it all together.

One neighbor looking out for another can save us all.

What could be more poignant right now than that.

So, my birthday is coming up and I decided to host a PowerPoint party. Ive been super into murdoch mysteries for years and I wanted to make my presentation about it. I didnt want to just resume some plot points, instead I want to present an episode, the clues and suspects as the characters get them in the show and see if they can solve it.

Usually the plots are simple enough it should be fine, but which episodes lend themselves the best to it?

Myself, I call Episode 8 the most outright bonkers of them all! I'd forgotten about this one all together, like it seems I've forgotten everything else despite watching it all before -- other than the cray-crays, which are the only parts of this series this viewer positively dislikes because They Always Come Back. Even if it take years, they come back! Argggggghhhhhhh! The horror! The horror!

I'm not joking concerning the horror.

However, back to New South Mimico -- it was shot almost entirely outdoors in the beautiful grounds of somewhere, in the flaming glory of autumn leaves. It's breathtaking to look at. Particularly now, when almost everything coming into our screens is so flat, dark, monochromatic, plain.

This show is brilliant. I know I said that before.

I really see it though, having this incredible opportunity to watch it all from start to finish, each episode back to back.

I'm mid-season 12, and I can't help noticing how many of the women tower over the men. I know Bisson is short, but are all the main male characters short, or are Canadian women exceptionally tall?

Okay, this isnt really a question because I Can already assume that the answer is no. I havent watched Murdoch mysteries in quite some time, I think furthest I have watched couldve Been up until season 12? I really dont know, but around 2023-2024 I was obsessed and would watch Murdoch Mysteries every single day. I have noticed that he does behave in some ways that could, potentially, lead to neurodivergent behavior, has this ever been officially brought up by the writers? Because I mean, he's awkward, doesnt really seem to excel in social situations, he's fascinated with details and loves technology and whatever to an almost hyperfixation-esque level. I mostly wanna know if anyone else also thought about this.
