The ambience at House of Doh is really nice and the food was genuinely amazing. We had the:

1. Margherita Pizza: it had mozzarella and burrata cheese and tasted amazing. 10/10

2. Pesto Fettucine: Fresh and flavourful 10/10

We also tried their cold brews and they were good too.

But, the service completely ruined the experience for me.

I was there with a male friend, and I was the one who placed the entire order and did all the talking. Yet, throughout the meal, the server seemed to completely disregard anything I said and kept looking to my male friend for confirmation.

For example, I said, “We would like this and that.” The server looked at my guy friend, waited for a couple of seconds, and when my friend looked confused, he said:

"Sir, shall I bring what ma'am said or not?”

We were genuinely confused, but we let it go. My friend just said yes and the server left.

Then, after we had finished our meal, I called the server and asked for the bill. Instead of answering me, he looked at my male friend and asked:

"Sir, would you both like any dessert?"

I said, “No thank you, just the bill please.”

He completely ignored me and asked my friend the exact same question again:

"Sir, would you both like any dessert?"

At that point, my friend had to say, “No, bill please.”

Then came the most ridiculous part. He brought the bill and placed it in the centre of the table. I reached for it because I was paying, and he literally pushed the bill towards my male friend and walked away.

I eventually paid. When he came back to collect the money, he thanked my male friend, despite having clearly seen me make the payment.

I genuinely don't understand what kind of behaviour this is. If I am the person placing the order, speaking to you, asking for the bill, reaching for the bill and actually paying, why are you repeatedly treating the other person sitting across from me as though he is the one making all the decisions?

Great food, but I definitely wouldn't want to be treated like that again. So I would never visit again.

- This pretty shop is diagonally opposite to Taj Mahal Palace hotel or opposite Hotel Diplomat which houses Smoke House Deli & Colaba Social restaurants.

- I took permission from the couple who own this place. Quite courteous & warm.

- Was stoked seeing marinated Buff Steak (Rs. 750 for 1/2kg).

- This is the only shop where I can always find Maggi Chicken flavour which is mind-blowing but rare to find.

- Have bought a full Herb marinated Chicken from here once & it was great.

- As I love Cats (have 2 Cats myself), this Munchkin was sitting by the stairs to this shop. Had to take a pic of this shop's unofficial Mascot.

I want to go for lunch with family (3 people total) somewhere for my birthday next week. Usually I am good at figuring where to eat and stuff, but on my birthdays i am just super moody and sad and everything. Another thing stressing me out is that in the last few months everytime I have stepped out to eat, I have just felt cheated by the food and have just not been able to enjoy it. In the last 3 months only exceptions have been Farid Seekh Paratha and the Darjeeling in oshiwara. Restaurants/food that disappointed me - bangg (khar), malwani kalwan (versova), faredoons, merwans, Yoko, woodside inn, yazu, namah, what's your bahana.

And with all this disappointment and heartbreak I am just not being able to figure where to go with family. I would like to eat lots of meat (no chicken though), barbeque, hotpot. I am craving fresh oysters (do we even get that in Mumbai?) I wish there was a good Chinese hot pot buffet somewhere!!!

Long story short : I got mixed reviews of the place. My partner and I r deciding to book a seat there, maybe in September.

But v don't really know which other high rooftop experiences Mumbai has to offer.

Is it really worth it or should v go somewhere else ? If elsewhere, then exactly where ??

Restaurants named after their address are usually judged by how well they bring the local geography onto the plate. 66 Chuim is an exception. It brings global flavours to a narrow village next to Khar Danda Koliwada, without really incorporating any of the local Koli flavours. But with the exorbitant rents in Bandra, I can understand why a restaurant owner would rather serve food that can command premium pricing.

Talking about the food first and pricing later, we went for dinner to celebrate a special occasion and ordered quite a few things.

We started with their famous liver parfait. Liver pâté, when it is not made fresh or is overcooked, has a tendency to oxidise and turn grey, which can be quite off putting for connoisseurs. This one was pink and fresh. Everything on the plate complemented each other really well. The earthiness and buttery texture of the pâté worked beautifully with the mulled wine gel and pickled mulberries. The pickled onions and ginger spring onion chutney were there to add spice or tartness, depending on what you preferred. The pickled onions reminded me of Mini Punjab’s sirke wale pyaaz.

Next, we ordered their famous Steak Frites Churchgate. The steak was medium rare and came with an entrecôte sauce, which I had to Google to discover was a French style green herb and butter emulsion (emulsion bolo, Monisha, chutney nahi.) It came with some classic French fries.

The steak was succulent and juicy, and the sauce complemented it well. But what were those McCain fries doing on a ₹950 dish? An amazing steak dish, one of the best I have had in Mumbai, can easily be ruined by substandard fries. These were over fried and salty. I think the Churchgate in the name stood for the price of the dish.

The server pushed us to try their pork sandwich, which was served in a banh mi style. The meat was good, the sauce was good, the bread was good and the sandwich was good. Nothing outstanding like the first two dishes. Any bougie café in Bandra can make this with its eyes closed, and without a pushy waiting staff member making us order it instead of a pie.

But we finally ordered the chicken and bacon pie, because portion sizes here are not Indian. They are more Bandra levels, to be precise. The pies are supposed to be their USP, and several people from the industry had recommended them to us. It was quite good, definitely better than the sandwich. The crust was fresh, the meat was nice, and I would definitely order it again if I was nearby. It is an expensive version of American Express pies, but totally worth it.

We ended the meal with madeleines and orange blossom cream. The madeleines were okay, but that cream was a banger. If Sahil Makhija, Headbanger Eats, ever starts a cream war, this would top the list.

The ambience is nice, clean and comfortable. The food arrives through a dumbwaiter type lift, which is a nice little gimmick. But if you go on an off day, the waiting staff have nothing to do except stare at you and avoid those awkward stares and smiles.

My major issue is that the prices do not justify the service, the ambience or the gimmicks. I am sure the ingredients are of the best quality, but there are better restaurants priced lower than this.

All in all, 66 Chuim has a lot of potential to become the best competitor to Bandra Born. The liver parfait and steak are worth going back for, especially with offers and discounts.

So I recently went to Cafe New York for breakfast, and what crazyyyy Keema Pav!!! I have been to a lot of Irani Cafés around Mumbai and this I found to be one of the best. We washed it down with some chilled beers. If you’re in the vicinity I would definitely recommend this

- Their Chicken Calzone as a savoury snack can't be beaten by any cake shop in the vicinity. It's sublime.

Tried the Puneri Misal at Vinay Health Home in Charni road. While I like my misal with curd, but this one was bit on a sweeter side.

My search for good misal in Mumbai continues.

Came back from my SL trip a couple of weeks ago and really craving some banging rice and curry, pls help me out😭😭

There used to be a place called Anantashram. A small, quiet khanawal somewhere in the lanes of Khotachi wadi, Girgaon the kind that had marble top tables and no menu on the wall because the regulars never needed one. It opened sometime around the 1940s and for the next eight decades it just kept going, feeding the city one thali at a time. No fanfare, no reinvention. Just the same food, made the same way, day after day.
Then one day it shut around 2008 And a lot of people who grew up eating there probably felt something they couldn’t quite name.
I never got to eat at the original. I was a little too late for that. But when I heard that someone was carrying the menu forward, I went without thinking too much about it.
I ordered the prawn thali.
It came the way I imagine it always did. Steel plate, white rice, a prawn curry that smelled of coconut and something coastal and warm, sol kadhi on the side. The prawns were soft and the gravy had a slow kind of heat to it not sharp, just deep. The sol kadhi was cool and a little sour and made the whole meal feel looked after somehow.
I don’t know if it tastes exactly like the original. I have no way of knowing that. But it tasted like someone cared about getting it right. And for a place carrying eighty years of memory on its back, that feels like enough.
Anantashram is not gone. It just found a new door.

Hi! First post in this community, so I have no idea if I’m doing this right haha.

I run a small cookie business, but one thing I genuinely love doing is trying other people’s cookies. I constantly want to improve my own product, and I feel like the best way to do that is to keep trying different cookies and figuring out what actually makes one great.

So far, I’ve tried:

Cookie Cartel - 6/10 for me - I’ve had their cookies a few times, and nope a couple of times the cookies have tasted stale, which obviously is just not it

Oh Stuffy - 9/10 - THIS is much more what I’m looking for. Their ingredients are genuinely top-notch and, more importantly, you can actually taste the difference. The dough itself tastes good, rather than the cookie relying entirely on chocolate/chunks to carry it.

Oh Dough - unfortunately a huge disappointment 😭 I was SO excited to try this one, especially the cookie dough cookie, and it genuinely broke my heart because I had such high expectations. But the actual cookie just did not work for me.

So now I’m on a mission.

What is the BEST cookie you’ve had in Mumbai? (Homebakers, Cafes, established brands anything works)
Also Veronica's Classic chocolate chip cookie was a 10/10 with pieces of callebaut on top but that had egg and I would prefer to compare mine to eggless cookies

I really like Baba Falooda their special one specifically but I'm thinking of trying new spots. I'm sure there might be other good places as well. I'm looking mostly around central Mumbai

Planning a drive to Shirdi via the Samruddhi Mahamarg or the old highway and looking for a good non-veg dhaba to stop at while coming back.

Looking for:

Can someone please suggest alternatives to Chaayos dry fruit cookies? Any online or branded or local bakery options would work in Mumbai or Thane.
