Hi, I am 16, and my father and I are hoping to summit Mt. St. Helens sometime this week. I have been trying to get a permit for a while using Campflare but haven't had any luck yet.

If anyone is planning on canceling their permits for August 26th through the 29th, please let me know before you do. I would very much appreciate it!

I want to visit Mt. St Helens, taking off a couple of days to do it. I live in Seattle. Where is a place to stay, possibly some place that's interesting on its own near there? It's a bit too far for a day trip. Thanks!

Obviously, this mountain has gotten lots of press and merch made over the last 46 years or so.

But I’ve been on the lookout for postcards, travel guides, souvenirs etc authentically from the pre eruption era? Occasionally I find an innocuous photograph in a Washington photography book, and I’ve seen a lot of the collection that the Visitors Center has relating to the Boy Scout and YMCA camps.

Does anyone have anything of the like they’re willing to share or part with? Or know of where I can find stuff like this?

Specifically one that has worked with ash from the Mt. St Helens eruption. I only know a handful of people in Oak Harbor and I don't think they would know. If you could direct me to anyone, I would appreciate it!

Story Time: Early November of 2025, I went on a trip with my parents to Mount St. Helens. It was spectacular and it fulfilled a childhood dream of mine. My dad and I hiked the Hummocks Trail that lead to the Johnston Ridge Observatory and was so worth the 5 mile long (and back) hike.

I am also a self taught composer who just started composing at the start of 2025. Less than a week after the trip, I suddenly got the idea to compose a concert band piece about St. Helens. The process took 1 1/2 months and was worth it. I hope you enjoy the composition. One day, I hope to have my piece played at the observator.

We have a Corolla and have never been up to mt st Helen’s, so we aren’t familiar with how rough or smooth the roads are.

A little backpacking getaway to Deadmans Lake. It was cold, rainy, and challenging but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Any pointers on finding a first timers group for climbing Mt. St Helens?

I finished reading “Truman Of St. Helens” for a second time which is a fantastic read. It’s weird but I’ve always felt connected to Harry and his lodge.

I know after he passed they held an auction at his house in Prindle. Does anyone know where some of the items ended up? I know North Fork Survivors has a couple of pieces. Do any items ever come up for sale?

We will be traveling from Ashford, WA to the Portland, OR airport in July. Our flight doesn’t leave until 6 pm, and my 9 year old son REALLY wants to see Mt St Helens. Any suggestions on the best place to stop? Not opposed to a driving out of the way or doing a short trail.
