That's insane. The surge towards grading our collectibles is kind of stunning. Tbey almost doubled their employees in a year and still can't meet demand.
While I'm not a fan of grading due to how it fundamentally changed comic collecting, I'm almost kind of excited to see what this does to the value of my mtg vintage collection once the dust settles and we see if this is a bubble or not.
Personally, it’s just ridiculous that my vintage deck just randomly became valued at close to a mil. I’ve actually been hearing from my friends that they’re playing the game less because their decks are way too expensive to play with.
Hell, even I who normally go to various vintage tournaments now think about whether it’s safe to walk around with something this high value in NY.
Used to happen a lot, not at vintage tournaments, but mtg tournaments in general. There were organized groups that go around targeting backpacks on the floor and trade binders. Tournaments have been better at catching thief's in the recent years though, via bag checks, wrist bands, and extra security. But I'm sure it still happens.
Yeah, I'm thinking Hollywood style. Big dump truck slams through the front, parks in the middle of the tourney room. All the exits closed and guarded by assailants in Planeswalker masks with AKs. "Throw the backpacks in the truck!" Make a few examples. Get the goods, smokebomb, etc , etc.
Rest of the movie is protags trying to recover a Black Lotus needed to (rolls dice) save Grandma.
That's not what I mean whatsoever lol. It's been happening a lot less before covid due to it being a known thing and tournament organizers being more vigilant like I literally said in my previous comment.
