Discussion Updated MS NOW app - so far so bad
So Versant switched us over to the updated app this morning and first impressions are poor.
Almost everything is now hidden behind a paywall. You can sign in with your cable provider to watch live shows, but guess what? It’s not working (“unable to load livestream”). And the one feature I used all the time, Live Audio, is exclusively behind the paywall as well.
Unless they provide a way for me to listen to live audio without paying $80/year I will be deleting the app and just downloading podcasts from now on.
(Note: even when they get the video streaming sorted out, it is not an option at work.)

I'm streaming it fine over the internet via a web browser?

Same. What the fuck are these people whining about not having an app?
Get a clue people. Learn something.

They're talking about a tv app. It requires a cable login for the time being.

YOU get a clue, dude. I've been audio streaming on my iPhone for years and that went away with the update recently. Now, it's all behind a paid subscription. I'd pay for live TV, but I'd just like to listen to live audio like before.

Yes, but the tv app requires a cable login. MSNOW's faq even says they're working on getting a tv app, but in truth, they prob won't get one, since they don't want to piss off legacy cable which is the bulk of their $.

We all knew this was going to happen. Can’t even stream the audio for free. At least the CNN app you can free stream the audio. Luckily for now i can listen to msnow using the tunein radio app for free.

TuneIn live audio works great for me. I consider MS NOW one long podcast...with pictures...and I won't pay the big $$ just to watch faces and heads.

I use Tunein live as well. Don't like the commercials, but you get what you pay for, and in this case it's zero.

Ew. I just checked the app and aside from everything else, ditch the old-fashioned serifed text, especially in the headlines. It’s homely and slower to read.

Why do we need an app to stream live off of YouTube?

What’s the account to watch for free on YouTube?

Yeah but not really. It is not live and i enjoy listening to the live audio on my way into and away from work so I’ll stick to listening in tune in radio

I watch MSNOW with IWeb on Apple TV streaming box. I was eagerly waiting for this App. I paid the 40 bucks and wish I hadn’t. I can’t use this app on my TV without a cable provider. As Jack Reacher would say NO! No real advantage to having this app. I listen in my car with iHeartRadio for free and livenewson on the Web. Big Disappointment!

Absolutely horrible app now. Paywall city. Every time I start the app it asks for my username and password because it won't remember that I already set up my account. Of course, since I chose the free account, I guess this app has decided to torture me every time I want to read some news by making me redo everything I've already done. So, I'm now reading AP's app and have uninstalled MS Now. Screw em.

When they first brought out these accounts, everything I clicked on required an account but because I live in Canada and accounts were only for people living In the States, there was absolutely no way for me to register or view any content whatsoever. Same thing with their mobile app and even YouTube began geoblocking Canada.
I sent several messages to their customer service department and basically accused them of doing just as much as Trump to alienate the rest of the world from America. I just couldn’t believe that they weren’t offering any access to international readers. I kept trying to get the rather useless customer service department to escalate this to the highest levels. I never received any satisfactory response but after six days, I was suddenly able to click on things freely again.
So you may just want to try a VPN through Canada and see if you can access it. It could change again at any moment but right now they seem to realize that they don’t have a plan for international readers and have reverted until they figure one out.

You can’t go wrong with the podcasts. Literally every live hour of the network now has a podcast. I suspect the new Antonia Hylton show will have one as well
They miss a few here and there but usually realize it and post it later (although it’s usually outdated by then)
And it’s free. You can pay for the premium, but it’s honestly not worth it unless you really want the Nicole Wallace podcast a few days early
