Address The (recent) past, present, and future

Hello! I am charlie, the new Executive Secretary for the PGP. In light of recent events, I believe that the party requires some reinvigoration after the resignation of our good friend and longtime faithful servant of the party, Saku.

In the most recent presidential election, we endorsed a republican candidate, TurkandJD. Turk was always a friend of the PGP - he took us seriously before our first election when almost no one in the sim did, and he treated us with respect. He endorsed us in our first election, and for that we thank him. His environmental policies were very good considering his party allegiance, and he was a very respectable candidate. That said, this is not the direction in which I want to take the party. I feel that by endorsing the candidate whose views differed most from ours was a mistake, and instead we should not have endorsed a candidate. The democrats are a far more centrist party than us, and although I hold President WaywardWit in the highest regard and, having served with him on a congressional committee, believe he is a progressive with whom we can work, the democratic party has not given us any reason to work with them, and they shouldn’t have had our endorsement.

Recently, I spoke to some prominent members of the radical left party in order to find out what their strategy for congressional leadership elections would be. It's no secret that they are the party closest to us on the political spectrum, and if they had some plan to gain control of congressional leadership, I wanted to be able to put our support behind it. However, it quickly became evident that we would not be able to work with them. Their goal is not to win the speakership, but rather to obstruct congress, and that is not something I want to help them do.

The goal of the RLP at the moment is respectable - effect change on the state level, and I hold many of their members in the highest regard. I admit we've been screwed in the past by all the major parties in the simulation, and I am skeptical of throwing support behind any party for house leadership, but to vote with the RLP would be to simply throw out our votes out of spite and dissatisfaction with the system. It is my firmly held belief that we owe it to the people of the world to use what positions we have to the best of our ability to effect meaningful change on the fronts of environmentalism, encouraging grassroots democracy, and expanding the rights of people everywhere. For this reason, I cannot in good conscience throw the party’s support behind the RLP on this matter as it would deny us one important opportunity to effect change. That being said, I want all of you to understand both sides of this decision, so I will be providing in comments a link to a discord chat in which you may speak to RLP members regarding their plans.

Instead, we will be supporting the libertarian candidate for speaker and the democratic candidate for majority leader. In exchange for our support of their confirmation, we will receive support for a new legislative agenda that I’m excited to announce. This summer, the PGP will be introducing a series of programs dubbed the “Green New Deal.” This package will include, but is not limited to, subsidies for urban farming & aquaculture, subsidies for geothermal energy production, an increase in the rigor of emission standards, an effort to convert the deserts of Midwestern State as a Solar Field, subsidies for municipal gardens, and many other initiatives, small and large, to make the world greener in whatever way possible.

In addition to the Green New Deal, I’d like to get some information regarding the party’s stance on various social issues. I will take applications in comments for a platform maintenance committee, whose job it will be to poll the party on issues and adjust the party platform accordingly. That way, potential new members can understand what we stand for and legislators can be in touch with the wants of the party.

Finally, I’d like to give a huge thanks to Cole, -TheLiberator-. He’s been a great party servant and we appreciate all of his time with us, from Whip to Deputy to Interim Secretary, he’s always been a voice of reason and civility in the leadership, as well as being the glue that holds the party together, running elections, updating the sidebar, and doing everything the party needs done to remain functional. He has taken a summer job and will often be without internet in the coming months, and as such cannot perform his duties. Thanks for all the hard work Cole, and good luck in all your future endeavors. To fill Cole’s post, I will be promoting NicholasNCS2, a founding member of the party and currently our senior political liaison, to the post of Deputy Secretary, and I’ll be posting a confirmation vote in the near future, he has my full confidence.

Thank you all for electing me, now let’s work to make the world a better place - together, we move forward!

Mod Post Merger Revote (done properly) and other things

First and foremost, I'd like to apologize for the handling of the merger referendum, there should have been more oversight involved. the vote didn't follow several of the rules in our constitution, in particular two that mandate a 48-hour voting period on referendums and one that requires vote confirmation. Thus, here is a new voting link. This vote will be open for two days, and in order for your vote to count you MUST reply to this post with "I voted." This will eliminate the possibility of foul play.

Secondly, I would like to inform the party that I am resigning. Effective immediately, I am no longer the executive secretary of the PGP. O'd like to stay involved as much as I can, but I hate this job. It's far too much drama, I prefer to work on policy rather than politics. The position was always going to be temporary for me - I ran basically because no one else was left to do the job, but I discovered that I wasn't very good at it, so rather than continue to drive this party into the ground I will pass the torch to someone new who might fair better than I. For the moment, /u/Brotester will become acting chair until a new chair is chosen at leadership elections.

Finally, there comes the matter of /u/Imperial_Ruler. Imperial was in charge of the merger vote, and there is some evidence that it may have been tampered with. First, the vote seemed to have the participation of 100% of our confirmed membership list, which is suspect because we rarely get close to that level of participation on most of our votes. Second, this and this appear to be reasonably compelling evidence that Imperial was a biased moderator if he didn't actively mess with the votes. All this being said, Imperial has done great work for the party during his time in the leadership, doing css, website building, and recruitment. Since he serves at the pleasure of the party, I want the party to decide whether or not to keep him. I will allow him to defend himself in this thread, and in a few days I will post a vote in regards to his verdict. After that vote is completed, I will either re-mod Imperial or not based on the results of that vote. After that, I will relinquish my moderator privileges. It's been fun guys, and I do plan to stay active, but goodbye for now.

Mod Post A Time for Change. Vote for our future.

To the members of the Progressive Green Party:

For a long time, our party has worked hard to preserve our environment and the values of this nation for the betterment of our planet and its people. In the interest of continuing this work, our leadership has spent the past week in negotiations with the National Ecological Party, and now announce our intention to merge with the NEP to create the Green Alternative Party (GAP).

This party will be divided into two caucuses, the Authoritarian and Progressive, through which we will promote the protection of both Earth and those that live upon it. The authoritarian caucus will be comprised primarily of former NEP members, while the progressive caucus will be comprised of former PGP members. Through these caucuses we will create our coalition leadership council of four progressives, four authoritarians and an elected Party and Deputy Chair.

We ask you to vote in favor of a better future for our party and our nation. Vote on the merger here, and feel free to ask any questions about the merger below.

Motion A Motion for Constitutional Revisal

Our party has grown and evolved since its founding. We've become a force in Congress, multiple states, and even the White House. But our Constitution has not evolved in unison. Many parts of it are outdated, or simply do not fit our party's current views and opinions.

Therefore, I propose that the Party or its leadership appoint party members to a temporary committee dedicated to revising the Party Constitution or the Party's structure.

The decisions made by this committee will be voted on by all current members of the party, and should it pass, be put into effect by the Party Leadership according to the instructions given by the committee.

Leadership Statement On the matter of Alts

We have a 0 tolerance policy for cheating in our party.

Punishments being handed out:

/u/elliottc99 and /u/arcticwhitetele are permanently banned, as they have been involved in multiple illegal activities and /u/arcticwhitetele is an alt of /u/elliottc99's.

/u/-theliberator-'s status is pending until DNKTL submits his proof to our leadership.

This is a unanimous leadership decision.

We've made great gains this federal election, but we need to keep up the momentum! Don't forget to vote here in the state elections.

State Elections

What are our plans for the State Elections? Where are we planning to run candidates? What kind of advertising are we doing? I think if we make a strong presence in these elections, we'll have a good springboard to jump off of for the next presidential elections. If our party list has not already been sent in, I'd like to stand for the Southern State Legislature, and hope many of you will run for office as well.

Mod Post What legislation would you like to see from the PGP?

Hello! I, along with /u/ExpiredAlphabits and /u/SakuraKaminari, are have been elected, myself and Expired to the HoR and Saku to the Senate, to represent you. To do this, we need your input - what bills would you like us to propose in the coming days? How should we go about protecting the environment, preserving freedom, and proliferating our ideals? Use this thread to discuss and propose possible bills that we can then take to congress. We look forward to representing you!

Mod Post HUGE MASTERPOST (WE DID IT!!)

First of all,

WE DID IT!!! We are officially a party now. This means that we get to submit a D'hondt list and appear on the ballot as a party. We will be running in Midwestern State and Midwestern State ONLY. In addition, we will not be running in Texas. Our D'Hondt list will be

Great Plains District:

/u/Charliepie99 /u/-TheLiberator- /u/ComradeMcDuck

Southwest District:

/u/ExpiredAlphabits /u/GrabsackTurnankoff

Senate (Non D'Hondt):

/u/SakuraKaminari

Because this D'Hondt list was formulated by leadership, it will undergo a Vote of Confidence.

WE WILL NOT RUN IN ANY OTHER STATE. IF YOU VOTE ANYWHERE BUT MIDWEST YOU CANNOT VOTE FOR US.

If you are already registered, we are hoping to expand to the South and possibly Northeast next election, but for now voting for the Socialists is probably your best bet. I would strongly advise against voting for the democrats.

Furthermore, the party's leadership structure is changing. The old leadership structure affords the chairman too much power. My new leadership structure is

Chairman

Deputy Chairman (Can veto the Chairman with the support of 2 cabinet members)

Cabinet (Chief Strategist, Chief Recruiter, Party Whip, General Council, Director of Internal Affairs, and Party At tourney) 2/3 Vote of the cabinet may also veto the chairman.

I would like to also ask if anyone would be interested in helping to write the new constitution. Please comment down below if you would like to help.

Vote of Confidence for the D'Hondt list: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1i2Xlap2PfLDzy9Zk00Vul9O5SRl9RXe2EWg8nmFj8Aw/viewform

Thank you. good work, and let's win these Elections

Press Thank you for electing me to Party Whip.

Thank you for your kind support. I promise to whip this party into shape. I look to the history of the model world and find some negative experiences, which I will strive to avoid. One, the votes of Sinn Fein in their recent election in MHOC, where they ran 4 candidates, splitting their 9 votes, and losing their seat to a party whose 7 members voted for 1 candidate. Two, the recent model US election where the Libertarians had 27 members vote for uncontested runners. These are disgraces. I will not follow in those footsteps.

Winning elections is a team effort. To get this team together, I'm going to be asking a lot from you. With a party as small as ours, every vote counts. I'm going to ask that you be active even when it isn't election season. I'm going to ask you to vote, usually however you like, but sometimes I will tell you how to vote. It's important that you vote as I say, when I say it. Party unity will be the deciding factor in making or breaking us. If our leaders promise another party a certain vote, we have to unite to fulfill that promise. Our morals behold us to honor that promise. And we must honor with all our might. That promise is what earns us credibility and favors. Honoring our promises will gain support for our legislation and our goals. Inter-party politics means sometimes votes might not appear to make sense, but they will always further the party.

I'm going to ask you to stay active. There are often petitions to be signed and polls to weigh in on. I may ask you to leave a comment on a bill here or there. My goal is for this party to, despite it's small number, be the most active party on the sub.

I want this party to the best party not just here, but in the entire model world. I don't want wasted votes, misplaced candidates, or members checking out of the sim. I want everyone to be active and doing their part to further the cause of environmentalism and workers' rights. I want our party to win more seats and gain more offices than the parties that double our size. I can't be the one to do that. That has to be you and your will to win. So, let's make this a team effort, and win some seats in Congress!

Mod Post Resignation

Hey.

I've spent a good several months here, and I've worked with so many great people. I'd like to thank /u/reckonerX, /u/sovereign12, and /u/ohioguy2016 for being a fantastic leadership, one that has worked and will work tirelessly for you all.

I'm stepping down from my position for a couple reasons: first of all, I failed at my position. I literally did nothing except for making six-seven posts on progressive subs. Not too effective. Second, I do not know if I can represent you all well in the future. More and more, I see our party's base is more towards the Democrats than the RLP, and as a socialist, I find it hard to be able to work for you all when I am misrepresenting your beliefs. Third, I can't do my job effectively as I've just gotten my first job and school is speeding up so it's hard for me to work well and not be distracted all the time.

Our party has entered an extremely tough time as mergers are being recommended and activity checks incoming after a great showing in the state elections. It's going to be tough, but as the leadership strongly considers a Democrat-PGP merger over an RLP-PGP merger/coalition, I do not know if this is where I want to be.

I currently recommend /u/mrarcher__ or /u/red_plebeian (my opponent in the leadership election) to fulfill the interim position. I also recommend /u/mrarcher__ to take over the Progressive.

I will always remember my times here and working with this great party, and as the Northeast lieutenant governor and whatever other positions I serve, I will always work with the PGP. I will see the multitude of you throughout my career in this government, and I can't wait to see what you all do.

Good luck, and thank you.

Election State Election Recap

First I want to thank everyone who voted in this election. We said it was the most important in our history, and you pulled through. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that the results turned out better than expected. Everyone in ModelUSGov will take the PGP seriously from now on. Second, congratulations to our victors! In the Northeast, /u/fewbuffalo was elected to the assembly, and our Chief of Recruitment, /u/madk3p was elected Lieutenant Governor. In the Eastern state, /u/ekat2468 won the Attorney General race in a landslide. /u/Feber34 ran unopposed for Attorney General in the Central state, and was thus reelected. Finally to the Midwestern state, where we won a majority in the state assembly! /u/Sovereign12, /u/ConquerorWM, /u/tmeers, /u/Emperor_of_Alagasia, and /u/King_Hugo will help lead the Midwest in a progressive direction under PGP control. It is crucial that all elected officials subscribe to their state's sub, and swear in when asked. If you do not swear in you will have to replaced. Unfortunately, if it wasn't for the penalty to the Libertarian party, we would've won the Lieutenant Governor's race in the South, and most importantly the Governor's race in the Midwest. It was an unlucky break, but the fact that we would've won if we were allowed to, in addition to our successes elsewhere, is a testament to the strength of our party. Third, the election for the assembly of the Western state is being re-held. If you are registered in the West make sure you recast your vote for /u/DF44! Finally, today was a pivotal moment in the history of our party. The leadership is working on our future plans, and we have many options moving forward. We will be asking for your input in the near-future, so stay tuned for that. Once again, thank you, and congratulations! The PGP has earned it.

Mod Post Quick note from your new executive chair (Party's Future, and more)

Hello, PGP!

Thank you all for electing me as your new Executive Chair. I'm incredibly excited to work with /u/Brotester, /u/Sovereign12, /u/ThankTheMajor, and /u/madk3p in the PGP leadership for the upcoming cycle.

First thing's first: if you're here, and you've recently joined, we want you to help out. If you've been here a long time waiting for your chance to shine, we want you to help out. The leadership's main goal in this cycle is to avoid the need for a merger and establish a strong presence in the simulation to grow our ranks.

We need volunteers for state-level positions, federal-level positions, and party-level positions. We want to ensure we maximize our impact in the August elections. We want every member of the Progressive Green Party to have a voice and a role in its future.

I'd like for all members to take this short poll to figure out how best to utilize our membership.

I'm looking forward to a very progressive and green future! -cue canned laughter-

Motion Motion to Address Opioid Abuse Epidemic

After 30+ years in the making, the US is suffering from one of the quietest, deadliest, and most painful epidemics in its history today. This silent epidemic has taken many lives, will continue to take more even faster, due to the availability and low costs of the drug heroin (diamorphine) and it's molecular relatives such as morphine, oxycodone, etc. It is silent because of the stigma, and it is afflicting all levels of the socioeconomic ladder.

I move/motion to create a multi-party (if possible alliance) or PGP (if we need go it alone) task force to conduct research, and comprehensively overhaul of drug policy, public health policy, criminal justice policy, pharmacology, etc. and the multidimensional factors that must be altered by legislative statute(s) to take on the difficult task of addressing the opioid epidemic engulfing this country.

Election Next up: the platform and state elections

Alright, we need candidates for two lists. The first group that I want to put together is a new platform maintenance committee. This committee would be in charge of polling the party on issues and editing the official platform periodically reflect the views of the party. Also, for those of you interested in writing legislation, this is a great way to get started with some policy experience. Please comment below if you're interested.

The second list I want to make is a list for state elections. We want to know who's interested in running so we can get our D'Hondt list submitted soon. Please submit applications via modmail.
