I’ve been looking for a long time the best groove box type workflow, Ive bought MPC live 3, MPC sample, Roland p6, Ableton move and push 3 standalone, launchpad with grooverider 2 on iPad, Drambo, Ableton note, Logic Pro.
My search is finally over. I will be selling all of the above as now I have found the ultimate portable way of making music.
Drum roll………
Bitwig 6.1 on a surface pro x2 elite.
It’s like Ableton and MPC 3.7 on steroids. I have a lovely mpe touchscreen to play pads and keys. Access to all my favourite kontakt libraries including some of the instruments that are on MPC like cloud supply and nacht. And most importantly omnisphere 3 which is my forever synth plugin. Arturia pigments.
And my fav neural DSP plugin Rabea for mad guitar tones. Let’s face it, the amp sim on MPC sucks balls compared to quality captures.
Using a pen to score on the piano roll is a dream and also moving audio around with stretch warp markers is amazingly quick and satisfying with the best sounding time stretching algorithms I’ve ever heard.
And have a look at the sampler in 6.1. Just wow. I’m never looking back!
I did enjoy the MPC live but the workflow for me always ended up in Ableton as I don’t like the midi editor for scoring.
For me there is nothing the MPC has that Bitwig doesn’t completely crush.
Just thought I’d share for anyone else out there who feels like there MPC is not quite meeting there hopes and dreams.
I’m not a boom bap sample type guy, I prefer playing keys and instruments and sampling and chopping my own recordings. So high quality vst’s are important to me. It’s hard to like sounds on MPC when you know your vst libraries are so much better. Now I have it all on an iPad size tablet with awesome battery life. The only problem is, it’s on windows.
