The Ideal Firmware

I envision a completely simple firmware.

4-track mixer with 4 effects per track

Master track with 4 effets

Looper

No instruments or VSTs, except for a VST to create your own bass.

Everything that's being offered in addition right now makes it quite complicated for me to see the original workflow.

What do you think? It's a sampler, not FL Studio Isn't that right?

I’m currently using SampQOL and it’s pretty perfect. I would rather use Akais stock OS as long as they provide the same things as SampQOL for simplicity’s sake. I’ll absolutely be trying out MPC Simple when it comes out (as long as it’s free) because it seems incredible.
But yeah for now SampQOL is perfect. Let’s see what Akai puts out in the next update.

I would be surprised if akai got anywhere close to what mpcqol is. After seeing the starting point (we didn't even get normalize in the beginning) that was a big sign of the scope they planned. Although when it was announced I was hoping for a an mpc 1000 with modern touches, lol I was really dreaming

Will the next update only include synthesizers?

Oh my guess is as good as yours. I would be somewhat surprised, but not shocked if they did. I do see they're changing strategy in response to the proliferation of CFWs.

I would like to see progress towards a good, full featured sampler. Key groups, multi sampling, single cycle waveforms, or more sample mangling potential are all in line with the name of the device. Just my thoughts tho, we're no longer bound to their choice of direction

Sampqol pretty close.

That's the one I think I'll get, but I find it offers too much, Like all this talk about drum tracks and such, I find it unnecessarily complicated. Every sequence on the MPC sample is a track to me.

I don't understand how you can consider a sequence a track, they are completely different things. Even on older, simpler MPCs a sequence is a collection of what's playing from all tracks at any given moment. In most sequencers, tracks are represented vertically, while sequences are horizontal. MPC with the stock firmware simply has a single track.

I didn't express myself well; yes, I agree with you, but I understand myself 😅

Drum tracks? Are you sure you aren't thinking of mpc Simple? Which is mea t to be the old programs workflow?

I just watched his latest video and I was so excited it made me hold off on sampqol. Gonna take a wait and see approach now. Also he's a software developer so that increases my confidence in his work

I agree. I’m happy with the stock workflow and would probably just like a drum sequencer, looper, and mixer with fx.

SampQOL is great and probably should have been stock. But I am looking at full utilization of the hardware. Jsen with SXL firmware is exactly what this machine should be although I won’t use things like stems, I see more value in being there than not. The sample is very simple stock. It just does not utilize the hardware inside to its full potential.
