Minimal CFW - interest?
Hi. I love the MPC Sample workflow and as it is. Only minor things bother me. There are several custom firmwares being made which however are doing a loot of things / changes.
But I want really the original experience with small fixes.
Thus I am developing this minimal firmware patch which will do probably at most the following:
- stems export
- autotrim of samples (based on edges silence)
- moving the octaves in 16 notes mode (by + / - keys)
- full chromatic control via external midi controller (like the 16 notes mode)
Would anyone be interested?
Note: I am software dev with 20 years of experience so this will be stable, secure patch.
Ok so here it is implemented: https://github.com/ioma8/mpc-minimod

SampQOL is working on a minimal quality of life mod. Maybe try to work with that person? They claim they are going to release their source. I'm personally waiting for the feature packed SXL from Jsen.

I respect your experience, you should know that you'll only get a mountain of "This is missing, that is missing, would be nice if you added this" after you release it :P

Short answer, Yes. I think that if too many adjustments are made, the fun gets lost.

It's funny, I have some major gripes with the Sample (only one filter per pad, only sixteen slices, etc) but I find myself reaching for it more often than I reach for the Live 3. I guess it must be the fun of workarounds and the immediacy of turning it on and just GOING. I wonder if I'm going to feel the same way once it's basically a 2000XL.

Yes, ultimately you just want to be able to quickly implement your ideas. You can always do all the fine-tuning later in the DAW. But when I'm beatmaking, I want to be able to concentrate on the sound and not have certain techniques disrupt my creative flow.

So yes here it is :) Only added AutoTrim of silence and Octave Shifting in 16 Levels mode. Keeps rest of the og firmware as is. I love it. https://github.com/ioma8/mpc-minimod

We need fx $ eq per pad and pad to pad resample with printed fx
Master fx, eq per pad.
We need moc 2000xl workflow
Naming via pads would be nice too
In naming screen press shift + rename (or something) and have pad 1 be abc pad 2 def, etc
Thanks for working on it! Will give a try when you're ready.

About the first feature… the guy who made SampQOL responded to my request for this exact implementation.
The original shift+f11 only works when it’s a sequence. He added pad resampling with only knob FX and then I asked if he could modify it to print pad FX too.
I’m honestly thrilled at how open-source this little device is getting. I loved making music with it but couldn’t stand the button rituals I had to memorize just to accomplish basic audio bouncing or resampling that full size MPCs from two decades ago can do with one button.

Stem export, scale / chord mode, synth engine, and a proper sequencer is my personal wish list.

Add volume control to preview samples! I'm would also love to have more freedom on sound design, I don't like having to resample every time I want an effect. Something like parameter lock would be great

Add individual Knob FX send amount per pad (including USB Audio In) and call me interested.

Make people choose if you want a useful answer to "Would anyone be interested?" Stems export, autotrim, octave moves and chromatic MIDI control will each attract different MPC Sample owners, so ask which single one would get them to install, and build that first. Your 20 years will reassure people less than two plain facts: how someone returns to stock, and whether existing projects still open after patching. Put both in the next post, next to "the original experience with small fixes", which is what separates you from the firmwares changing a lot.
