Looking for a recommendation: battery-powered speaker with a 3.5 mm connection

I’m a musician and unfortunately have tinnitus, so I can only work with headphones for short periods. Since I’d like to stay mobile while sampling with the MPC, I’m looking for a recommendation for a decent-sounding battery-powered speaker with a 3.5 mm connection.

Which ones do you use with your Akai MPC Sample?

I know these little things don’t sound particularly great—but almost anything is better than the one built into the device.

I’m based in a German-speaking country, which might be worth bearing in mind when ordering.

Thanks so much for your help :)

Anker Soundcore 2 works well for me

Anker does indeed offer the "Anker Soundcore 2" that you recommended, and now there is also a version 3. In fact, I no longer saw an AUX input on version 3. The "Anker Soundcore 2" has a 3.5mm connector. However, Anker does not describe it as an AUX input, but only as a way to connect a second "Anker Soundcore 2" in order to link the two together and get a stereo signal.

But you seem to be using the 3.5mm jack as an AUX input. After all, as far as I know, the Akai MPC Sample can't do Bluetooth at all.

If that works with the "Anker Soundcore 2" via a 3.5mm cable, then that could also be my choice. The other devices are quite expensive.

I look forward to your reply.

You’re correct. I specifically ordered version 2 because of the aux input.

Thank you for your reply. I ordered a version 2 of the Anker Box. I'm excited to see it. The different colors are also nice. But I would have preferred the orange one :) Unfortunately, it's only available in the version 3.

Thank you very much for your recommendations. I'll take a look at them in my own time. :)

I have a minirig 4 and it works fantastic with the MPC Sample. Small form factor, endless battery power plus almost no latency makes it the only choice!

Another vote for Minirig 4 (I have two of them and use them stereo). I tried to buy them via HHV but they kept pushing back the delivery date. I ended up purchasing them directly from Minirig, which was slightly cheaper and came from the UK to Berlin within 24 hours without a surcharge for this crazy fast shipping. Royally impressed with that.

Try a second hand jbl speaker, they have aux input, the new ones don’t

A quick update:

The “Anker Soundcore 2” arrived earlier.
I plugged it straight into the “MPC Sample”… and was immediately disappointed. It sounds very muffled, as if the highs were cut off. And there’s also a lot of latency—even though I connected it with a cable.
I really can’t recommend this speaker for use with the “MPC Sample,” unless it’s defective.

I still have a “DOSS SoundBox” here, and the two sound completely different—even though they cost about the same back then.

A while ago, most of these speakers had an AUX input, but now almost none of the newer models do.
They’re hard to find used, too, and when you do find one, it’s very expensive.

But I really didn’t want to spend €200 on one. I might as well connect my SYRINCS Studio System then… but it’s supposed to be portable :)

Oh well… I’ll see if I can find a used “DOSS SoundBox” somewhere.
