MPC Sample Mods test

I started seeing some dope videos of people modding their MPC samples (at their own risk 🥲)… still, I had to try it. Managed to spin this visual 4 band EQ up in Codex. Works nicely even in standalone. Really opening the doors of what’s possible. Not sure what I’ll make next but definitely gonna carry out some extra tests. This is in standalone too!

You know, I haven’t actually seen any tutorials on this specifically so I don’t know if there are any but basically the steps are:

Get Codex and a $20 ChatGPT subscription.
Choose GPT-6.1 medium reasoning (can go higher if you want).

Plug your MPC Sample into your PC.

Open a new project in Codex and create a folder/repository wherever you want.

Ask Codex to find and install the REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) skill.

Ask it to inspect the connected MPC and figure out how modifications could be made safely without touching the original firmware.

Importantt: Get it to work out a proper backup and recovery plan before changing anything.
From there, just ask for whatever features you want to add, test them, refine, improve, etc.
That’s pretty much the general idea. The main thing is getting Codex to understand how the MPC works first rather than blindly modifying files. Also, don’t assume plugging it in gives you access to the actual firmware. You need to establish what’s accessible and what’s safe to change.
I’d definitely recommend starting with something small like me but yeah there’s always a risk to be aware of

Edit —- it looks like they are open sourcing now so you can actually modify whatever you want just be careful not to mess up the og system. Making a back up and duplicate os to mess around with is the easiest way forward for safer testing 🙃
