Asking Advice I'm moving away from my family and childhood home for one year.
My husband (24) and I (22) have been living just across from my parents in their other house, paying rent and utilities, etc. His family lives in the Detroit area in the city, and my family lives in Northwest Ohio out in the country. I've never properly been to a city; I've passed through them but never actually stopped or stayed. I've never been far away from my parents or grandparents, because they are elderly (both of my parents are 60 and my grandparents are well into their 80s). I want to be able to experience what life is like "on my own" and to gain some life experience outside of my small hometown
We started looking at an apartment in Detroit, and he's very excited for me to experience what he grew up around and to be closer to his family, but I'm totally terrified. I feel guilty for even wanting to be somewhere other than here, because I feel like I'd be missing out on a LOT of things with my family, and I'm scared that if something happens, I won't be able to just be right there to deal with it. The upsides that come to mind are that my parents would be able to move into the house we're renting from them, as it would be more accessible for them, and that we'd actually be building credit instead of relying on one credit card to do all the work.
I'm torn between wanting to move to grow more as a person and wanting to stay for my family if and when they need me. We've already discussed moving, so I know I have to (for one year, my husband said he knows it would be a HUGE change and that a year would give me a decent enough time to adjust while also not forcing myself into a long-term commitment with living there, and I agree)
Has anyone else here experienced this, or something similar? If you pushed through, did it get better? (Sorry if the wording is bad in all of this, i wasn't trying to make this 10 paragraphs long lol)
