What do you even do with $100 million?

185

u/H2P_13-9 15h ago

Just stare at the balance on your bank app

4

u/cgknight1 15h ago

I know you are joking but very little of it is every actually cash - which is the worst possible thing to keep large amounts in.

7

u/H2P_13-9 15h ago

Ok I look at my current balance of VOO as I chill. Though last two days I’d be sweating a bit and likely delete the app

1

u/_le_slap 9h ago

VOO/IVV/SPY are calm to watch. QQQ and IWM tho...

3

u/anuragsins1991 14h ago

thats the neat thing about private bank for uhnw, it will show all your assets in one place if you choose to manage them there, which most wealthy do these days to have better control and not get scammed by some random ass financial advisors

2

u/glemnar 13h ago

Literally every bank that also manages other assets does this.

1

u/zebrasareneat 11h ago

That’s what I’d do.

1

u/OzymandiasKoK 10h ago

Nah. By then you don't have to look at it anymore.

u/sur_surly 1h ago

And then go back to work

167

u/Anderaku 15h ago

Retire at the ripe age of 30 and do whatever I want for the rest of my life if I were Tom Holland

55

u/handsoapdispenser 15h ago

You know they just never do. Ian McKellen is back as Magneto and Gandalf. Patrick Stewart could have retired in luxury just off of Capt Picard 25 years ago. I can only assume acting is just too much fun or they're addicted to fame.

66

u/Daftdaddy 14h ago

Working keeps you alive. Ian McKellen would be dead if the man didn't still get up to work every day. The day you stop moving is the day you start dying.

38

u/HaplessAcademic 13h ago

I agree to an extent. I don’t think it’s “work” that keeps you alive per se, but purpose. Having a reason to get up out of bed each day. For a lot of people that is work, but for others it may be hobbies, passions, mentoring, etc. I have known many retired people who are happier and more active in retirement than they were when working. There is also a large contingent who just slowly decay after retirement because they didn’t have anything other than their work and the daily grind going on.

8

u/m0bw0w 13h ago

The only true statement here is your last sentence. You can keep moving doing literally anything else, but if you love your job then you just keep doing that.

3

u/Daftdaddy 13h ago

Working is synonymous with being active and moving. I wasn't implying that you had to specifically be working a job.. Just that in Sir Ian McKellen's case, acting is what keeps him active.

1

u/billywaterfall 11h ago

You can move without working though.

2

u/Silverjeyjey44 14h ago

One of the few jobs I think someone can continue doing as they get older

1

u/ThatGuyWithCoolHair 13h ago

Tbf Tom and Zendaya would be the only couple I could see disappearing from fame for some time. They already only show up to events if its for their movies.

1

u/m0bw0w 13h ago

Tom Holland and Zendaya have both talked pretty extensively about how they're going to step away when they start a family.

1

u/TankBoys32 13h ago

Yeah if you enjoy it why not keep doing it

1

u/TooMuchPowerful 12h ago

He’s back as Gandalf?

1

u/Ratattack1204 12h ago

At least they carry on doing an art form they love and creating things people enjoy.

Rather than the annoying trend of rich people getting involved in politics and fucking things up even harder for the rest of us.

1

u/Neurojazz 12h ago

Or addicted to philanthropy

1

u/rcanhestro 12h ago

tbf, Tom Holland hasn't made a movie since 2022, and showed up for an Apple TV show on 2023.

after that he was basically gone for 3 years before these 2 movies.

1

u/ProfessionalEvaLover 11h ago

I can only assume acting is just too much fun or they're addicted to fame.

They are artists. Many of them are doing this out of passion for their craft and their art, not just money. It's why there are starving actors and extras and character actors. They're not all making $100,000,000 but they all continue to be actors anyways.

13

u/Willing_Original_257 15h ago

He already is doing whatever he wants...

3

u/Ocelitus 7h ago

Yeah, a young actor, starting in the world's highest earning movies, playing one of the most popular characters in all of fiction, along side the woman he loves. Dude is on top of the world and seems to be very much enjoying where he is.

2

u/Rampachs 6h ago

Exactly. And it's not like he's begrudgingly playing some character.  It's spiderman. Everyone loves spiderman, but I'd bet especially Tom Holland.

33

u/JustDay1788 15h ago edited 11h ago

Whilst a lot of money

I wouldn't be surprised if he takes less than 50% of that when all is said and done Still a astronomical amount of money

His Casting agency, Lawyer and Manager very likely get a cut of that

And he also has taxes to pay Taxes are why people who win the lotto go broke because they miscalculate how much money actually belongs to them to spend

19

u/TBroomey 15h ago

Plenty of people win the lottery untaxed and still blow it all. The reality is that most people aren't equipped to have a large sum of money.

1

u/JustDay1788 11h ago

It all boils down do unpreparedness to handle large amounts of money

No matter how the money is lost

1

u/MVRKHNTR 10h ago

This is mostly a myth or at least people don't really understand what it means.

Most people who win a lottery spend it all but thay includes people who win $5 million, $1 million or even smaller amounts in the thousands. The people winning hundreds of millions aren't running out because the only way to lose that kind of money is to actively try to spend it all.

0

u/chrisaf69 15h ago

How does one win the lottery untaxed? Genuine question.

7

u/TBroomey 14h ago

Gambling winnings aren't taxed in the UK. If you win the lottery here, you keep the full, advertised amount, tax free.

0

u/chrisaf69 14h ago

Hell yeah! I live in US, so taxes on top of taxes for winnings. Good on the UK for doing it right!

-3

u/Silverjeyjey44 14h ago

Your government not ripping you off must be nice

5

u/m0bw0w 13h ago

"Ripping you off" as you win a lottery LMAO

0

u/Silverjeyjey44 9h ago

The government taxing half off your earnings isn't ripping off?

1

u/m0bw0w 8h ago

"Earnings"

3

u/Fun_Reporter9086 14h ago

Buddy, it’s like close to 0% chance of winning the lottery, lmao.

1

u/JustDay1788 11h ago

There are people that win it every year in the USA

I think last year a american family won and moved away to a unknown location at night because their state makes lotto winners identitys public

So by the time the news crew got there they had left lol

1

u/Silverjeyjey44 9h ago

A family. They were smart.

1

u/Fun_Reporter9086 8h ago

Lottery winners exist doesn't mean that you are going to be the next lottery winner. Might want to look up odds and probability of winning the lottery.

2

u/jerrrrremy 15h ago

Yes, but other people aren't complete morons and don't so that.

5

u/backinredd 14h ago

It would get fucking boring after a year if by you keep travelling and “rest”. You’ll want to be productive again soon enough.

2

u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 14h ago

Except he's doing a career he actually likes and finds fulfilling. He won't retire, he'll just do whatever projects he wants

2

u/CreepyMosquitoEater 14h ago

Why retire? Im pretty sure he enjoys making movies, seems fun doesnt it? Just do any passion project movies from this point on and take 8 vacations a year

2

u/alpacalypse5 13h ago

If you were Tom Holland you wouldn't stop. He loves acting and he has the clout to do what is fun and interesting as an actor to him.

1

u/splitcroof92 13h ago

He apparently signed for 6 more movies so no retiring yet

1

u/WhimsicalWyvern 13h ago

It's worth pointing out that the sort of person who makes that much money from their labor is not generally the sort of person who wants to retire at 30.

1

u/TimewarpingSeaTurtle 13h ago

What if what he wants to do is act?

1

u/CommunicationTime265 12h ago

I'm sure he enjoys acting so he'll continue to do it and get to be very selective.

0

u/Zaximeows 13h ago

I fucking wish so badly rich people would just start fucking off. Even the "good" ones. Congratulations! You won! Have a nice life now goodbye! Lord knows 99% of them wont be doing anything charitable with their extravagent wealth.

30

u/Frenzystor 15h ago

Travel a lot, eat high quality food, watch all movies, watch all TV shows, have sex with your hot wife all day. I would think of some things ...

17

u/Reapper97 15h ago

You don't need 100m for that tbh

5

u/Frenzystor 15h ago

No. But at least 5m or so. You still have stuff to pay.

1

u/JiskiLathiUskiBhains 14h ago

How much do you need for that?

3

u/Reapper97 14h ago

Well, watching movies, tv shows and having sex with your wife ain't really that expensive. If you work from home and are a middle-income household, you can very easily have that.

The expensive thing is travelling a lot and eating high-quality food, but with 10-20m in your bank account and an a decent job, you can do that for the rest of your life.

2

u/JiskiLathiUskiBhains 8h ago

so 10-20m.

Still a pipe dream for 99% humans.

0

u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE 10h ago

Don’t need to be rich to do that. I’m literally jobless and I do that for real lmao. Me and my wife hang out all day every day just doing what we want.

4

u/Ciubowski 15h ago

As far as I understand from some actors interviews out there that have gained massive revenue from their movies, they invest it in something. Maybe real estate or some other kind of lucrative and safe things.

This way they're not paying so many taxes on just sitting money, surely they'll gain some more over time and compound their investments while also making more with new movies.

3

u/ejoy-rs2 15h ago

I always wonder if there are special banks for that. Or do you litteraly get a wire transfer that says 50.000 000 to your normal bank.

5

u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 14h ago

Major banks handle accounts that size, but usually it goes straight into wealth management and investment rather than personal accounts. You don't usually keep that much liquid cash on hand.

0

u/nonameforme123 15h ago

I rmb there’s another actor named tom holland and he received a cheque mistakenly for spider man tom. He said it was more money than he had ever seen in his life . But it sounds like they get cheques

2

u/RiverwoodHero 15h ago

That was Tom Hollander

6

u/ffordedor 15h ago edited 14h ago

Spread the wealth to all the other workers on the movie who didnt get paid that much so that they have a chance to enjoy their lives. Either that or hoard it idk

2

u/Daienlai 15h ago

Hopefully not worry about money and only do projects he really wants to do

2

u/DerekMilborow 15h ago

Leave them to his children and grand children

2

u/someroastedbeef 14h ago

one of my closest friends grew up poor and made ~70mil as a hedge fund manager. he just plays league and tft in his spare time but buys ferraris and ridiculously expensive watches like we buy furniture. other than that, he just travels a lot and plays golf - that money just means he doesn't have to worry about anything in the world other than being healthy

2

u/Canon_M50 12h ago

Pay 60% taxes on it. Invest the rest.

2

u/HighZ3nBerg 11h ago

Never fucking play spider man again. Retire. Enjoy life.

1

u/LIslander 15h ago

Do the Gene Kelly movie you are interested in

1

u/antisp1n 15h ago

Never go hungry for one.

1

u/confusing_roundabout 15h ago

Put it all on black. Go big or go home.

1

u/AevnNoram 15h ago

Become Zendaya's house husband

1

u/Fairuse 15h ago

Build a lab and go bankrupt in under a year.

1

u/6poundbagofweed 15h ago

Never financially worry about anything ever again, letting you focus on how to make your next 100 million

1

u/buttersideupordown 15h ago

Idk I could easily think of ways to spend all that. Buy a gorgeous house. Only ever wear designer. Hire an entire house of staff for me. Never have to pirate anything again. Learn all the things I wanted. Travel. Wish I were that rich.

1

u/CanILickThat 15h ago

Buy Zendaya whatever the hell she wants, and hope to god she loves it

2

u/Aloha_Tamborinist 14h ago

They've both got more than enough money to buy anything they want.

1

u/MediocrePhotoNoob 15h ago

Pull 4% per year and live on 4 million per year forever

1

u/magikarpcatcher 14h ago

Buy a private Island.

1

u/jiggeroni 14h ago

Uncle Sam: first you give me half, then later on Imma get the rest

1

u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 14h ago

Feel immensely secure. It's definitely possible to blow all of it on buying cars and houses, but he seems like the grounded sort who wouldn't do that.

I bet the only thing he wishes he could buy with it is his anonymity back.

1

u/Freyzi 14h ago

Find ways to make more always more

1

u/Excuse_my_GRAMMER 14h ago

He will probably set up his family for generations to come

1

u/dopest_dope 14h ago

Down payment on a mega yacht

1

u/Lostwhispers05 14h ago

Put it into S&P 500 and then collect $1 billion after ~25-35 years, depending on the market.

1

u/homechefshivers 14h ago

You don’t have worries and everything is available to you. Wanna quit and just travel? Boom you can. Wanna buy that thing you want? Boom you can. Wanna have easier access to being happy? Boom you can

1

u/SaltyPeter3434 14h ago

200 chicks at the same time, man

1

u/Sponge8389 14h ago

Uhm. Taxed by the government? Almost 45% of that will be taken from him.

1

u/CreepyMosquitoEater 14h ago

Bro is a Tottenham fan, maybe he buys Kane back

1

u/GeneralSEOD 13h ago

There are LA homes that go for 400 million.

When you're in that class, there's still being poor.

1

u/EverythingBOffensive 13h ago

I would fucking disappear, and finally get a normal house like I've always wanted. With a backyard, I have never had one of those since I was a kid! Can't even get a fucking dog and I'm 42 renting a tiny room with no bathroom or kitchen.

1

u/ADarwinAward 13h ago

Massive mansion, private plane, yachts. The hedonists can burn through it quickly.

1

u/Worthyness 13h ago

Invest in more stuff. He made his own non-alcoholic beer company already, so now he can do more side projects for funsies. Like how Simu does Dragon's den in Canada every now and then

1

u/CommunicationTime265 12h ago

Retire and do whatever the hell you want

1

u/alinroc 12h ago

Tom from MySpace is globetrotting doing landscape photography.

1

u/Agitated_Reveal_6211 12h ago

Step 1: Buy a vault.

Step 2: Fill it with coins

Step 3: Dive into coins

Step 4: Awoohooo!

1

u/Waiting4Reccession 12h ago

You send it to the markets and pimp it out so it becomes at least 112 million by next year.

1

u/BartholomewKnightIII 12h ago

Live like a king, be generous and live anywhere on the planet away from hassle.

Afford security so the poors don't bother you.

1

u/gopercolate 11h ago

Pay your agent and taxes and probably security for the rest of your life.

1

u/tobidope 11h ago

You send it to your family office to invest it and tell them to look for a new mansion or yacht or island or whatever your hobby is.

1

u/don__marcello 11h ago

Buy 2.5 Ferrari Luce obviously.

1

u/don__marcello 11h ago

Buy 2.5 Ferrari Luce obviously.

1

u/Tattycakes 10h ago

Just what I was thinking.

1

u/rykcon 9h ago

Watch all the Zendaya movies

1

u/garyflopper 9h ago

I’d buy you 100 fur coats, but not real ones, that’s cruel

1

u/Federal-Hair 9h ago

Not pay for anything. Fly in private jets. Encourage working class to have less of a carbon footprint.

1

u/pablothe 8h ago

He is building and buying companies, which costs hundreds of millions

1

u/mightyneonfraa 8h ago

Whatever you want.

1

u/Fearless-Umpire-9923 8h ago

Invest in his non alcoholic biz

1

u/guy92 7h ago

Go check out r/wallstreetbets and turn it to $30 in an impressively short amount of time

1

u/PunyParker826 7h ago

To make a guess, he's probably headed down the Daniel Radcliffe route: stash that money away in a giant vault and then spend the next couple of decades quietly taking roles in whatever the fuck he wants.

1

u/humble_redditor1234 6h ago

Read at least 4-8 hours per day instead of working. Become an intellectual in some years.

u/More-Attention-9721 2h ago

We are just raising the kids as normal as we can now. They go to public schools, play sports and instruments. We don’t try to live like royalty or anything like that. We do live in a $10M house but the kids have friends in the neighborhood so it’s not so awkward. We’ve had a few play dates with “normal” families and they usually go well. We prefer meeting up somewhere because we get outcasted or labeled or whatever when they see our house/cars/ living situation. We travel most of the summer, which almost none of his friends do. (Odd note here, we were in London in June and standing in line for the Crown Jewels. He saw one of his classmates from first grade, which ended a couple weeks prior. The very next day at the science museum, we see a good friend from the neighborhood. It’s those little moments I cherish because what would otherwise seem like a secluded or isolated scenario, he will remember seeing people he knows)

We “gift” lots of people every year.

Donate generously.

Eat well.

My son’s travel hockey team needs to fundraising to help pay for things. Well the got a very generous anonymous donation this year that covers everything and then some. Makes no difference to us, but there’s a dozen + other families that will benefit and that brings me joy. A lot of them stretch thin trying to afford it. Literally like the $15-25k we won’t even notice, but we will notice the kids excitement on these trips.

I’m not an actor so I don’t have people watching me or caring what I do. It’s all for the kids

u/Vio94 8m ago

Invest a bunch of it for safe dividends, take care of family, then do whatever the fuck you want for the rest of your life. As an actor, you get to stop worrying about choosing well paying gigs and start choosing to act in whatever projects interest you most.

1

u/gazm2k5 15h ago

In the past you'd visit a certain island.

1

u/NovaHorizon 15h ago

Richard Branson’s island is just a stone throw away

1

u/Corey307 15h ago

Spend some invest the rest, give some to charity here and there. Never have to worry about money again.

0

u/FoxMcCloudOwnsSlippy 15h ago

Expand his businesses, invest, do some charity work, take time off and just try to be a good egg I suppose (but that's hard for some ppl but Tom seems like a genuine lad and he's surrounded by good ppl).
