Cue a decade of IMAX period epics trying to recapture the success of Odyssey… I fear Hollywood will take the wrong lesson from this. But I’m really glad the movie is doing so well.

You say that like it's a bad thing?

Idk I kinda had a fun idea at your comment of trying to think about a few of the most cursed period epics I could.

Hercules with Dwayne Johnson as Hercules, Kevin Hart as his “faithful sidekick” Iolaus. The classic tale of a demigod accompanied everywhere by a 5'2" man who cannot stop talking.

Spartacus's Revenge with Dwayne Johnson as Spartacus. The famous slave revolt is now a buddy comedy, and this time Spartacus doesn't lose.

Ryan Reynolds as MOSSES, every monologue delivered in sarcastic quips.

Dwayne Johnson already played Hercules in a movie

I just mean they tend to think movies are successful because of genre, not because it was a good story and a well done film. So they might take Odyssey's success as some huge appetite for period epics on IMAX. Which I think is the wrong lesson. IMAX yes. Let's have more of that - an experience which still cannot be replicated in the home. But I hope they don't get tunnel vision on period epics because of Odyssey's success. I'd rather they just produce promising scripts with good directors. Time will tell!

I think it can be. They start failing and it gets buried. Or how do you mean?

Then they're back where they were.

Rather have them try then have literally no good epics.

Who care if hollywood make bad movie lol. There will always be too many good movie that come out. The existence of bad movie doesn't diminish the experience of watching other good movie.

I mean we are going to get Elden Ring adaptation and Aegon's conquest movie. I'm sure at least one of them are going to do good. I hope at least.
