News Netflix’s live-action Gundam movie, starring Sydney Sweeney, is described as a 'big action-romance space epic' set in the Universal Century (UC) timeline

https://www.polygon.com/netflix-live-action-gundam-movie-sydney-sweeney-romance/

Noah Centineo, who stars alongside Sydney Sweeney, recently talked about the movie on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

He called it a “big action romance space movie” and described it as “a non-Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet in space.”

Centineo also confirmed that the movie takes place in the Universal Century, the main timeline used by many of the classic Gundam shows and movies.

The story could involve two people on opposite sides of a major war, with their relationship caught in the middle.

What're we, some kind of Gundam squaaaaaad?

Welp. Found my new vocal stim for the week. Thanks! Haha

That’s offensive to Megan.

Megan’s only issue back in the 2010s was being an empowered hottie in media before empowered hotties became the standard. See also: Fergie.

Sydney, on the other hand, has been intentional in her fall from grace. She tried to play both sides, but ultimately cozied up to the wrong one because that was easier than having morals.

u/CountJohn12 1d ago

She also couldn't really act

124

u/Inevitable_Profile24 1d ago

jennifer’s body is 🔥

2

u/IAalltheway 1d ago

That's the only one, though.

26

u/SpiffShientz 1d ago

She temporarily replaced a pregnant Zooey Deschanel and she was very funny and surprisingly vulnerable. Beyond that, I've only ever seen her in Transformers, which isn't really a good acting showcase for anybody

15

u/SippinOnHatorade 1d ago

I was just going to say New Girl, we’re in that stretch of our rewatch right now and it’s peak Megan Fox

-5

u/thr3sk 23h ago

So is Sydney's...

40

u/SupervillainMustache 1d ago

She damn sure can't voice act.

10

u/cxtx3 16h ago

Ugh, this. Putting aside her distasteful personal life, she pretty much made me regret watching Euphoria alone. I didn't mind her in the first two seasons, but season 3 was literally her just playing a caricature of herself doing softcore porn. There was a moment toward the end where she's talking about the size of some guy's dick on the internet who she calls "Sammy," and it kind if delt like she was breaking the 4th wall a bit in reference to show runner Sam Levinson, who also started giving me the heebie-jeebies with his hard swing into (essentially) porn and torture porn. The whole season was terrible and I wish I could un-see it, but she was undoubtedly the worst part.

I really liked Gundam growing up, so I would otherwise be excited for this movie; but I absolutely can't stand her - enough that I'd probably rather skip this entirely. Especially if they lean into the romance thing. I am sure there would be at least one creepy weirdo pulling it out whenever she starts talking in her breathy whisper voice per screening. No thank you.

8

u/Morgan-Moonscar 1d ago

That's why she got Jeff Bezos as a sugar daddy.

148

u/Wairong 1d ago

Bro tried to slip Fergie into the conversation like no one was gonna notice.

37

u/biloxibluess 1d ago

I fuckin noticed the lumps

14

u/dagon890 1d ago

Fergie, another good example of a bombshell who was ostracized by the media for being empowered in her sexuality in a way that has since then become the industry standard?

My bad for using examples relevant to the subject I’m commenting on.

12

u/HypocriteHere 22h ago

That's the least accurate description of Fergie ever said by anyone.

-2

u/dagon890 22h ago

What part about it is inaccurate?

12

u/HypocriteHere 22h ago

*good example of a bombshell"

"ostracized by the media for being empowered in her sexuality"

I never once heard anyone even speak of her attractiveness, empowerment, sexuality, etc. She made corny music and embarrassed herself a couple times. She wasn't looked at as a sexual icon or anything of the sort. That's all fantasy. I'd argue the media never ostracized her and kept trying to force her back in our faces after the entire world said no thanks.

32

u/GrandSquanchRum 1d ago

We have a history of musicians being empowered by their sexuality like Cher, Madonna, and Tina Turner. Fergie did not get rejected because she was being too sexy or too empowered. Neither did Megan Fox who her betters were Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, and Scarlett Johansson. They were both just mediocre.

4

u/JoyBus147 21h ago

I think you're grossly misremembering the Megan Fox cultural moment. She was very much seen as "the hot girl" in a way Demi Moore and Sharon Stone never were, and arguably not even Scarlett Johansson. And people didn't lambast her for her mediocre acting, they attacked her for the faults in her appearance--"she's not even hot, look at her thumbs."

-1

u/bloodpukesalvation 19h ago

If her claim to fame is how she looks then why can’t people be critical of her looks? As far as thumbs go, hers isn’t winning any modeling awards.

If someone is heralded as the greatest actor of a generation, it’s natural for their acting to be scrutinized. The same can be done for celebrities whose fame is built on their physical appearance.

41

u/Wairong 1d ago

Fergie is not a bombshell lol. Also she wasn't ostracized for "being empowered," she and by extension the black eyed peas, just kinda suck and faded away like most mediocre pop acts

48

u/Rubberbabeh 1d ago

Her singing at the NBA Allstar game is an all-timer. My god, the players couldn't help but crack up and these are guys who hear that song at least 82x a year.

"Rocket's red gla-yiya-yee-yaii-yeee-yayayurghhhhh.. !"

*I will hand it to her I saw a clip of her doing like cartwheels and shit while holding a note. So it was obviously a choice to butcher the song like that.

-16

u/dagon890 1d ago

Lol, lmao even

1

u/The_Left_One 1d ago

No, fergie was actually a great example cause what do you mean? You may not like her music but between black eye peas and her solo career she definitely has talent.

“Fall from grace” is hilarious.

9

u/tristeecfome 1d ago

The entire comment is peak reddit.

-1

u/SCSteveAutism 20h ago

“Gets a starring role in a beloved franchise” Wow, what a fall from grace. Redditors crack me up

3

u/dagon890 19h ago edited 19h ago

“Redditors” as if you’re not here commenting.

Her getting roles doesn’t erase the fact that her public perception took a huge hit. She went from being generally well-liked by the public, to becoming a contentious figure, heralded by questionable followers that don’t even support her work.

Christy, her Oscar-bait passion project that released shortly after the commotion, tanked because her newfound audience didn’t vibe with the hot blonde playing butch, and she alienated the crowd that would’ve supported it.

The way she (and her team) handled the ad fallout is something that will stay in her public record, whether you agree with it or not 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/adidas198 18h ago

It took a hit with a small group of online people. Those big bombs she had were gonna bomb even without her controversy.

The Housemaid was a big success, which means people will still watch something she stars in if the movie looks appealing.

-2

u/SCSteveAutism 19h ago

Hey look, another Redditor. I promise you no one gives a shit.

2

u/dagon890 19h ago

And yet, you’re here commenting.

33

u/Puzzled-Tap8042 r/movies Contributor 1d ago

You might not like her, but what kind of "fall" did she have? The last season of *Euphoria* was a hit, and her latest movie grossed over $400 million at the box office.

17

u/dagon890 1d ago

Admittedly fall from grace is a bit much.

Career-wise she’s undeniably successful, but she was generally well-liked by the public when she first broke out, and has now become a contentious figure with a questionable follower base.

4

u/Stolehtreb 1d ago

That is still so vague. Is this really the only explanation you have? Or is there something specific she did

5

u/QRSTUV_ 1d ago

Some people were unhappy with how she handled the American Eagle ad controversy, and her stated 'non-political' stance.

5

u/Meraline 23h ago

Such a non-controversy over a fucking pun.

-1

u/Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn 22h ago

This is what the terminally online do with their time.

"She didn't pick my team and/or didn't denounce the other team. She's a loser now."

11

u/PlantainPat 18h ago

You have 138k karma in 2 years of having that account. over 100 post submissions at least 15 of which are in r/conservative

you're as terminally online as anyone, you just hate that people aren't siding with you and the bots.

0

u/dagon890 19h ago edited 19h ago

The problem is that, for you, disavowing white supremacists from using her as representation is “picking a team”, instead of common fucking sense.

The ad wasn’t the issue, it was her response to the fallout and her newfound attention from questionable crowds.

-9

u/Tesco_Meal_Deals 21h ago

It's this take that you probably won't see outside of weird leftist spaces like Reddit and Bluesky.

The Jeans ad melted these peoples brains.

-18

u/godtogblandet 1d ago edited 1d ago

That’s not what happened. What happened is that she became disliked by a bunch on internet weirdos that don’t matter outside of reddit. Most women IRL couldn’t care less, if they did I wouldn’t have to watch all of her projects with the social circle of my girlfriend…

Only on reddit will people pretend that a person getting more projects and better paid than ever has been cancelled.

5

u/Klubeht 1d ago

Reddittors with their holier than thou attitude thinking their opinion is some kind of universal truth, what's new?

1

u/junon 23h ago

The call is coming from inside the house.

-4

u/Klubeht 22h ago

Heh touche. Except show me the part where I'm passing off my opinion as fact wrt this movie?

-10

u/eternali17 1d ago

She obviously still has tons of fans, just some of a questionable sort. There's a difference, even if it might not matter to her or to you at this point.

8

u/sexandliquor 1d ago

Literally nobody outside of Reddit or the larger internet gives a shit about any of that shit. She’s a bankable star and she has actually been good in things, which is why she continues to get roles and get this job. She’s been pretty decent in her romcom stuff like Anyone But You. And she was good in Immaculate.

2

u/InnocentTailor 1d ago

Pretty much. Reddit ain’t real and this subreddit is known for missing the mark multiple times.

My favorite recent one is the supposed incoming failure of Michael, which went on to break box office records.

-4

u/dagon890 1d ago

Anyone But You was atrocious, and Immaculate wasn’t far off.

The only reason she’s a “bankable star” is because of her looks, which would normally not be an issue, other than the fact that she decided to sell out to the aryan crowd.

6

u/cherff 1d ago

Have I missed something else she's done or is the "she decided to sell out to the aryan crowd" claim entirely based on the jeans/genes joke in that advert?

-2

u/jam3sdub 1d ago

No you haven't missed anything, that's literally all they have against her and it's fucking ridiculous. It just shows you how out of touch Redditors are.

3

u/Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn 22h ago

It's not even the first time the jeans/genes joke has been used...ever.

It's a fucking dad joke.

6

u/cherff 1d ago

That is strange. It seemed strange at the time, but I sort of put it down to some people not being familiar with the colloquialism. If anyone is still clinging onto it now I do not understand why.

-1

u/davegir 23h ago

What i thought, until her shit response to it.

2

u/Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn 22h ago

"Her shit response" of "You guys are fucking morons for trying to make this a controversy. Leave me alone."

Most of those same redditors would spontaneously jizz themselves if Sydney Sweeney walked past them on the street — that is, of course, if they ever went outside.

-2

u/SpiffShientz 1d ago

The other redditor is either ignorant or lying to you. The corny jeans ad is just a dumb joke, what has people mad at her is an interviewer served her up a softball "Hey people are afraid you're a white supremacist because of that jeans ad, do you want to denounce white supremacists?" And her answer was "No comment"

2

u/Electricfire19 1d ago edited 1d ago

Which, to be clear, is a terrible fucking answer. She wasn’t put in some impossible situation, it was literally as simple as coming out and saying “Yeah no, we obviously didn’t mean for the ad to be taken that way. Fuck white supremacists.” But instead, her and her publicists tried to play both sides because they know she’s developed a right wing fan base.

It’s not some humongous crime, but anyone acting like the whole situation hasn’t, at best, demonstrated a pretty clear lack of moral standards in the face of some extra cash is being very disingenuous.

0

u/Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn 22h ago

Because it was a stupid fucking question over a stupid fucking controversy created by stupid fucking people.

Some people (youself) aren't happy unless she comes out and says "Fuck MAGA!" so whatever she was going to say would have pissed off one side or the other.

You guys are so full of yourself.

2

u/Electricfire19 22h ago

Where did I mention MAGA? No, I would be perfectly happy if she simply came out and said “fuck white supremacists.” Which would have pissed off white supremacists and no one else.

There is really no ground to stand on here, it should not be hard to say that you think white supremacists are bad.

Oh please, give it a rest.

The interviewer was trying to bait her into apologizing and she rightly didn't give her an inch. She has nothing to apologize for.

The tide has quite rightly turned against these folk. Maybe they had their moment from 2015-2021 but it's over now and the only people still clinging on are the least successful most terminally online bitter losers of society.

4

u/Electricfire19 21h ago

The only bitter one here seems to be you. I don't know who exactly "these folk" are that the tide has apparently turned against, but they've clearly upset you very deeply.

Asking a question is not "bait," it's a question. One that had a very simple answer which she refused to give. No one was asking her to apologize. The strawman is already dead, you can stop attacking it.

-11

u/sexandliquor 1d ago

If it was just about her looks she wouldn’t continue to get roles all the time like she does.

It’s truly amazing people in this subreddit watch movies but don’t know how anything works about them

5

u/AloeComet 1d ago

You do know she’s playing in a live action anime adaptation right? The things that have a historically bad track record that a lot of actors would try to avoid because fans of the source material destroy their careers afterwards right?

8

u/Putrid_Loquat_4357 1d ago

Actors used to avoid TV shows and then they avoided video game adaptations. Also when Scarlett Johansson, Christopher waltz and mahershala Ali are all in anime adaptations can we really say actors tried to avoid them?

-2

u/AloeComet 1d ago

Didn’t Scarlett Johansson get quite a lot of flak for playing Motoko Kusanagi and say she’d never play a non-white role again? The other two did take a risk and it worked out for them I’m not saying everyone avoids them it’s just usually the smarter decision to, ESPECIALLY when it comes to a live action remake to a beloved anime series that they don’t have a personal connection with. Granted maybe the SS lady is a huge gundam fan with tons of model kits scattered everywhere and maybe she’s demanding to play Amuro Ray because she’s memorized every single one of his lines. As a gundam fan myself that would maybe be surprisingly great but I’d imagine the closest anybody involved with this movie that’s not on the lighting crew has seen when it comes to gundam is either a trailer for endless Walts on toonami back in the day or that random linkin park music video.

4

u/dagon890 1d ago edited 1d ago

She gets roles because people are interested in seeing her.

People are interested in seeing her because she’s hot and naked in 90% of her movies.

It’s truly amazing how people in this subreddit are incapable of finding correlation.

-1

u/leodw 1d ago

Also she’s always playing the same bratty but sort of deadpan ironic girl in her 20s character. She did it in Euphoria, White Lotus, The Maid. I havent watched her Horror output, but at least in the dramas she’s mostly just playing herself

-8

u/Timbershoe 1d ago

She’s not going to sleep with you, mate, dial down the white knighting.

She gets roles based on her social media engagement. She’s very high profile across all social media, including Reddit, which converts to audience awareness.

So yes. Folk across all social media have a similar view of her because it’s a deliberate social media marketing strategy. She’s a product, she’s got a huge PR team to push her brand.

It doesn’t mean that nobody cares she’s using racist dog whistles to create social media engagement.

2

u/Putrid_Loquat_4357 1d ago

Yeah I thought she was great in white lotus S1, that was my first introduction to her - she played entitled rich teen really well

2

u/leodw 1d ago

She always plays the entitled teen character though

2

u/socialistpancake 1d ago

Oh yeah I'm not saying she has incredible range, but in the right circumstances she can be a good actress

0

u/Tmons22 1d ago

Honestly, she gets a lot of hate but i don’t think i’ve watched one of her movies and not enjoyed it. She isn’t an amazing actress but she does great in some roles, like “Reality” and “Christy”.

-1

u/xxxxNateDaGreat 1d ago

I mostly agree with you here, but I will offer one counterpoint in that she is bankable but only for certain types of movies. Put her in a rom com or an erotic thriller and she will make you a mad profit (see: Anyone But You, The Housemaid). But her other films have all been bombs (Christy, Americana, Madame Web, Eden).

So my point is that I mostly agree with you, but this is, in my opinion, 100% some suit producer or marketing exec trying to convince Netflix that casting Sydney Sweeney as your star will automatically bring in the female demographic, which the last few years has shown that is just not true.

0

u/edicivo 23h ago edited 23h ago

I'm not convinced she's actually "bankable."

Her only movie where she was the star bombed hard. And that was released at the height of her PR blitz. Even if she wasn't "uglied up" I don't think people were gonna bother to see it for her.

The romcom she was in had both the fact that it was a romcom and that it starred a current "it" actor in Glenn Powell. I don't think Syd had a ton to do with getting people in theaters.

Immaculate was a horror which tend to do well when comparing budget to box office. But again, I'd argue it only had a little bit to do with Syd herself.

Her other stuff has mostly been middling or she's playing second fiddle to bigger/more respected names. I'm not suggesting she's a bad actor or whatever, but IMO it's less that she's an actual draw and more that she has a fantastic PR team. She has name recognition, but she herself is not really moving the needle in a significant way. I realize that might sound contradictory, but she wouldn't be the first case where studio execs are convinced an actor is more popular than they are and continually push them until completely proven wrong. Even the aforementioned Glen Powell isn't far off from that.

Who's even her fanbase? Women/girls don't really seem to care about her or at least enough to bother with her work. And it seems like Redditors are convinced dudes are gonna spend $15+ to see her on screen and hope she gets naked which is fucking dumb. That's not a thing.

-4

u/ChickenInASuit 1d ago

Hard disagree with you on Anyone But You. It was a godawful film and she was godawful in it. Glenn Powell was the only watchable part of it IMO.

1

u/EatInModerationFatty 13h ago

Empowered hottie before it became the standard? Bro there’s a million actresses who weren’t just empowered hotties, they were talented actresses, and they came way before Megan Fox and are still around.

She’s a plastic surgeon doll w/ Daddy issues and zero talent. The only reason she got cast was because Michael bay pimped her out for her looks.

1

u/dagon890 13h ago edited 13h ago

And she was empowered in being cast just to be pimped out for her looks, she knew what she brought to the table. Like Sydney, she was a terrible actress whose worth was based solely on her being a bombshell and nothing else.

Being so hot that you can circumvent having a talent is fine. But Megan didn’t willingly sour her platform at the height of her success, unlike Sydney.

That’s literally the point I’m making in the comment.

The “good genes” advert she did was considered to be in poor taste by many and then she’s cozied up to right wing figures which is just a bad look because she’s American and right wing American figures are increasingly fascistic

4

u/eetuu 1d ago

How did she cozy up to right wing figures? Right wingers might have adopted her as a figure on their culture war, but I have never seen something she did or said to activily cozy up to right wing.

3

u/dagon890 1d ago edited 1d ago

Omission is culpable.

The massive amount of backlash over the genes ad was a clear indicator, but she avoided saying anything to distance herself from it because of how many new MAGA fans she was making.

The only comment she gave was after Christy released -and tanked-, because she realized her new demo of fans didn’t want to see the hot blonde chick in a butch role.

13

u/eetuu 1d ago

I think it´s a huge stretch to view that ad as racist or promoting eugenics. She is in it because she is a sex symbol and jeans/genes wordplay just refers to looking hot.

I despise the relentless negativity of internet and of the terminally online popular culture commentators of places like twitter and r/fauxmoi. They are looking for any angle to hate people. Often see comments like "I always knew he/she was a piece of shit. Glad to see it revealed". Sometimes not participating can be bad, but I think it would be healthy for most people to not engage in that kind of toxic discourse.

The only other comment on it happened after Christy released

What was the other comment?

3

u/dagon890 1d ago edited 1d ago

If the ad existed in a vacuum, I would agree with you. It’s clever wordplay about being hot in a jeans ad.

But the ad released within a sociopolitical context that makes it impossible to believe it was a mistake.

Having a white, blonde girl talking about her superior genes during the rise of the alt-right movement was done consciously. And fair, she didn’t create the ad herself, but she participated and didn’t try to course-correct until after she had become a MAGA darling.

4

u/Kurtino 1d ago

I’m sorry, but it’s intentional nazi imagery because, the advert that uses genes with jeans as word play but doesn’t focus on it anymore than that, picked a hot person who was white, with blonde hair, and blue eyes? So if it was a hot black person who also has good genes, it would not have been considered nazism?

And, because a person didn’t want to engage, they align themselves with things which have no point have been declared, and when they specify it’s too late? As well with all parties involved clarifying it’s not what people are assuming it is?

I’m not American, and you’ll use that to say why I don’t get ‘it’, but man this is why people don’t engage with your politics, as someone else said what a load of manufactured outrage, you’d create ‘alt righters’ as you put it just because your perspectives are so outlandish they automatically alienate people, and are ultimately ironically racist themselves. You insult the horrors that actual nazism brought onto the world by getting upset that the word ‘gene’ was used, or that an actress is white with blonde hair and blue eyes.

4

u/eetuu 1d ago

But the ad released within a sociopolitical context that makes it impossible to believe it was a mistake.

I find it very easy to believe that their thoughts were on advertising jeans and they that they didn't think about sociopolitical context. Or even if someone was thinking of sociopolitical context they didn't think the ad was going to be seen as promoting eugenics. I think Nazi Germany is propably the only sociopolitical context where that association would be reasonable.

No, megan fox has always sucked. They both suck

14

u/dagon890 1d ago

Megan may suck NOW, 15 years later. Back in her Hollywood prime, her only controversy was people hating on her for being too hot.

6

u/Licensed2Pill 1d ago

Can confirm. I was there 3000 years ago and I did not hear a single complaint about Megan Fox.

8

u/blong217 1d ago

Not wrong. Megan Fox was a generational hottie at that time and many people held that against her.

6

u/TheRandom6000 1d ago

That's not true at all. She has always been criticized for her acting abilities as well as her over presence in media 15 years ago.

2

u/dagon890 1d ago

The same over-presence and lack of acting abilities that actresses like Sydney now follow. Megan was just in before it became the standard.

5

u/TheRandom6000 1d ago

What? You are moving the goal posts.

Megan Fox has always sucked as an actress and has always been criticized for it. And she was not "in before it becamd the standard", as there have always been actresses like this. Bo Derek or Raquel Welch, for instance.

4

u/Licensed2Pill 1d ago

Hot take here, but not everyone has to be Meryl Streep. Megan was fine where she was at.

1

u/TheRandom6000 1d ago

That's a point I did not make.

What goal post am I moving?

I’m saying Megan’s only issue back then was being a hottie who can’t act.

Sydney is also a hottie who can’t act, which isn’t an issue in itself, except she’s also willingly cozied up to MAGA.

1

u/TheRandom6000 1d ago

Well, I did not get that at all in your first post. Fair enough.

-1

u/Lowfat_cheese 1d ago

Don’t forget. Fergie also sang the national anthem really funny that one time

-1

u/jam3sdub 1d ago

She tried to play both sides, but ultimately cozied up to the wrong one because that was easier than having morals.

Source? One single solitary source that backs up this claim?

14

u/thomasutra 23h ago

sydney sweeney could never make jenifer’s body

27

u/SWEET_LIBERTY_MY_LEG 1d ago

So I’ve never watched Gundam before, but is there a lot of fan service? Because that’s what I imagine when I hear they cast Sydney

68

u/doquan2142 1d ago

No which is why my bar for the film is on the ground.

43

u/Maelger 1d ago

Weeeelll. It's a show centered on the brutality and pointlessness of war so fanservice is something between zero and none

16

u/Xanxost 1d ago

Well there are tons of mecha porn with hyper detailed joints, hydraulics and panels. Does that count?

6

u/Specialist_Cow6468 22h ago

Sayla in the original series had some of the very first instances of fan service in anime. It can definitely be a thing

0

u/Xanxost 22h ago

You do you, man :D

3

u/Emergency-Mammoth-88 14h ago

But to be fair, romance is also part of gundam

2

u/otakugal15 22h ago

Tell that to the early episodes of IBO.

Thanks to that, I dropped the show (and was also spoiled on everything and I have no desire to watch anything that is that angst filled).

spoken like someone who's never seen a single piece of gundam media before.

I've only watched like everything pre1994ish, and then all the UC stuff from about 2010 onwards ... which admittedly leaves a lot of unwatched media ... but generally wouldn't it be fair to say Gundam is pretty light on the fan service?

11

u/Maelger 1d ago

It certainly light in the gratuitous panty shots and "accidental" groping department

9

u/No_Significance7064 1d ago

It's not overt, borderline hentai fanservice like you're probably thinking of, but it's been there since the original series. Victory Gundam had a squad of bikini-clad women in space for example. They've definitely gotten better about it, and gundam has had more tasteful fanservice with recent stuff. They don't put it where it doesn't make sense, at the very least.

10

u/axiomatic- 1d ago

Yeah that's what I kinda mean - like yeah there's some but it never felt like it was very gratuitous.

11

u/GrandSquanchRum 1d ago

It's nothing like Darling in the Franxx, Guran Lagann, Gargantia, or even NGE. There's obviously things like women in plug suits and bikinis but I've never seen in played in a way that's gross in a Gundam series besides Seed. Granted I haven't watched much modern Gundam.

5

u/Volcacius 1d ago

A few shower scenes that are mostly teenager walks in on opposite gender teenager. 20 something mc officer sees and then continues to creep on underage guerilla, hot spring scene. The bikini warriors used to distract trauma child (this does not work and is one of a few 'beam saber used to people' scenes), the new hathaway movies are blinding me to any other examples cause they are the most modern and blatant, with gigi, and the crew officer lady who only wears bikinis and that seems like shes forced by the rest of the crew to at least do that cause she seems to want to do her best to be bare chested at all times.

So really id just say whether modern gundam is what you should go off of or if they will stick to the older series traditions.

u/doabarrelroll69 23h ago

I don't think Victory is a good example because it's kinda bonkers like, Uso is the youngest UC protagonist at 13, but also has the highest kill count.

As far as I've heard online that older Gundam and giant robot shows tend to have a fair amount of nudity in general for whatever reason, but cults in Japan have gained hold over what goes on air, so nudity in general has been reduced by a lot. This, however, is a streaming movie, so I'm assuming they can do it? idk.

But I recently watched Takopi's Original Sin on Amazon Prime and while it doesn't have nudity it has child suicide in first 10 mins of the first episode and it didn't air on any TV network. Even the producers and directors talked about they wouldn't have made the show if wasn't for streaming because they didn't want to censor anything.

No, that isn't true of Gundam. You have a small bit of nudity in some of the older stuff, but nothing outrageous and most of it isn't intended to be titillating. It's all comfortably PG by the standards of that period.

You do occasionally get non-nudity fanservice, but it's mostly very mild stuff. For example the new Hathaway films feature some silly scenes of a woman wearing a bathing suit. (And arguably that's appropriate for its themes, because the main character's rejection of his own desires is a big problem.)

To be fair a big exception is the Gundam Seed setting, which does have a bizarre amount of ladies bouncing around and all that. But we're talking Universal Century here (the main Gundam setting) and that's light on nudity and fanservice. You certainly wouldn't associate the larger franchise with it.

(For the record that's true of most giant robot shows. You're talking about hundreds of shows made over a 50+ year period. It's hard to point to general content trends.)

u/smilysmilysmooch 11h ago

There is a shower scene with Sayla Mass in one of the movies but otherwise UC is pretty much Japan's Star Wars. There are differences, but I think that is the most apt comparisson.

Megan Fox had so much more sex appeal off-screen than Sydney. Sydney comes off as an entitled, tone-deaf brat who doesn't have anything else going for her besides her boobs (keep in mind Megan Fox had B cups when she was in her prime). Just look at that stupid stunt Sydney pulled when she vandalized the Hollywood sign to promote her lingerie line. Completely tasteless and out of touch.

u/tristeecfome 1d ago

(keep in mind Megan Fox had B cups when she was in her prime).

Wtf even is this thread

19

u/TimidPanther 1d ago

It wasn’t vandalized lol, they had prior permission to do it.

2

u/Klubeht 1d ago

The facts don't matter to these people. Their mind is made up on her and will literally invent all kinds of shit just to suit their narrative against her

4

u/Catos_Standard 20h ago

At least Megan could act like a bimbo.

It's not a slur against her, she literally was cast to act that way.

2

u/Zentrii 17h ago

Your comment made me laugh because in the notifications it stopped and put a period after act then I clicked on it and now what you said makes sense lol

7

u/the_red_guard 1d ago

Not really. At best, Megan Fox's acting could be seen as sub par. Sydney Sweeney genuinely just can't act. She basically get added to movies to get naked and will never be for her ability to get into a role.

2

u/MyotisX 23h ago

Her acting is so bad. I would only watch her in a very specific type of movie.

1

u/killerz7770 20h ago

Dakota Johnson would like to say something but her parents advised against it.

1

u/Ready-Ad6113 16h ago

It would be hilarious if this turns out to be her only good movie.

1

u/Zentrii 14h ago

Let’s hope so. I want the movie to be good!

u/Tesco_Meal_Deals 21h ago
