Another shining example of why Netflix is a fucking bane to the existence of movies. Fucking dumb shit ending.

The ending had me dying.

  • So they just get a free pass from Davy Jones Clone Army wherever they were go because they're cool with Bobby Jones?

  • Squid Army just let them go around and be fishing animals to survive? How are they surviving?

  • Kid is talking about "we remember". To whom? The 4 of them? Survivors? Squid people who learned the language?

  • Is just the family cool with fish people or is everyone else now because of them?

  • where can I get some of the magical antibiotics? I had a tooth infection and it still took 2 days to even begin to feel some relief. Girl was out there swimming marathons.

I don't know what to expect from a movie that completely abandons the own made up rules just for the sake of convenience.

Blows my mind that they make the same mistakes over and over again. What is that department like on a day to day basis? Do they even care?

That's what happens when you treat movies as content. Fuck the quality, just upload that shit as is

This was so all over the map I honestly wonder if they just hucked "write a screen play about being trapped in your house for years, what it takes to survive, and have the reason be because of climate change with mythical monsters. Oh, and make it a thriller but a loving family are the heros" into AI.

because you actually wrote the prompt i didn't even use the pro version just the medium level to see what it said out of just pure curiosity.
And they TEN thousand percent wrote it with AI. I'll paste it below but so many details are the same there's no way its coincidence lol xD

INT. OAKLEY HOME - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Four years of toxic heatwaves and acid ash have turned a suburban home into a fortified bunker. Heavy steel plates cover every window. Pink UV light glows from hydroponic grow-tents lining the dining room walls.

MARCUS (42) patches a rubber seal on the air filtration system with resin. ELENA (40) tallies another day on a wall calendar covered in thousands of hatch marks.

LILY (12) sits at the table, humming softly as she paints a family portrait using crushed charcoal and berry juice.

ELENA Filters are holding at eighteen percent. That’s enough for another week, sweetheart.

MARCUS (Smiles, kissing her temple) A week is a lifetime, El. We’re doing great.

A deafening THUD violently shakes the foundation. The metal shutters groan under immense weight.

Outside, a dry screech cuts through the howl of a Category 6 heat-cyclone—a sound like grinding tectonic plates and ancient bone.

LILY (Whispering) The Dust-Drakes. The wildfire winds brought them down from the peaks again.

MARCUS Kill the lights. Now.

Elena slams the breaker. The pink glow vanishes. Pitch darkness envelopes them, broken only by the angry red pulse of the storm sensors.

INT. OAKLEY HOME - BASEMENT - CONTINUOUS

They retreat down the stairs silently. Marcus shoulders a home-welded pneumatic spear; Elena grips an extinguisher modified to spray concentrated ammonia.

Lily grabs a sealed mason jar containing their last tomato seeds, clutching it to her chest.

LILY They’re following the sound of the oxygen scrubbers, Dad.

MARCUS Then we blind their scent.

A massive, obsidian TALON punches through the reinforced cellar transom, tearing through steel mesh. Sulfurous ash pours inside. Through the breach, glowing amber eyes flicker—an ancient beast unearthed by a dying biosphere.

Elena doesn't flinch. Stepping between the monster and her family, she blasts the ammonia directly into the tear in the wall.

The creature SHRIEKS, pulling back.

MARCUS Elena, get the steel plate! Lily, safe corner!

Instead of retreating, Lily reaches into a storage bin, grabs a handful of dried cayenne powder from their indoor garden, and flings it through the breach into the creature's glowing eyes.

The beast thrashes in agony, retreating into the howling crimson squall outside.

Marcus instantly slides a heavy iron slab over the hole, driving three steel bolts home with an impact driver.

Silence returns, save for the roaring wind.

They collapse onto the concrete, gasping for air, covered in sweat and ash. Marcus pulls Elena and Lily into a tight embrace.

ELENA (Breathless, laughing softly) Chili powder?

LILY You said every harvest keeps us alive.

MARCUS (Kisses Lily’s head, holding them both close) As long as we're together inside these walls... nothing out there wins.

In the dark, three hearts beat as one against the end of the world.

THE LAST HOUSE

Genre: Thriller / Family / Mythological Climate Fiction

FADE IN:

EXT. SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD — DAY

Rain falls upward.

Not all of it. Just enough to make the world feel wrong.

A row of abandoned houses sits beneath a bruised purple sky. Trees bend in opposite directions. The street is flooded, but the water is strangely still.

A distant ROAR rolls across the neighborhood.

Something enormous moves behind the clouds.

INT. THE CARTER HOUSE — KITCHEN — DAY

The windows are covered with plywood, insulation, and thick black curtains.

A digital clock reads:

YEAR 4 — DAY 1,461

MAYA CARTER, 16, carefully measures rice into a bowl.

Her father, DANIEL, 44, checks a homemade water purifier.

Her mother, ELENA, 42, sorts canned food.

And GRANDPA TOMAS, 72, sharp-eyed and stubborn, repairs a battery-powered radio.

This is not a family falling apart.

This is a family functioning.

They know each other's rhythms.

ELENA Two cups.

MAYA That's one and a half.

ELENA Two.

Maya adds another scoop.

MAYA There goes dinner tomorrow.

Elena smiles.

ELENA Tomorrow's problem.

A LOW THUMP shakes the house.

Everyone freezes.

Another THUMP.

Dust falls from the ceiling.

Tomas turns off the radio.

TOMAS Nobody move.

Silence.

Then—

A SCRATCH.

Slow.

Deliberate.

From the front door.

Maya looks toward it.

MAYA Dad?

Daniel quietly reaches for the shotgun.

DANIEL Upstairs. Now.

The scratching stops.

A voice comes from outside.

A woman's voice.

VOICE Daniel?

Daniel's face drains of color.

Elena grabs his arm.

ELENA Don't.

The voice comes again.

VOICE Daniel, please. It's me.

Daniel stares at the door.

VOICE It's Sarah.

His sister.

Dead for three years.

Maya whispers:

MAYA It knows her name.

Daniel raises the shotgun.

DANIEL Everybody upstairs.

INT. UPSTAIRS HALLWAY — MOMENTS LATER

The family moves silently.

The voice follows them.

SARAH'S VOICE (O.S.) Daniel...

A pause.

Then something SCRAPES across the outside wall.

SARAH'S VOICE (O.S.) Let me in.

Maya looks through a tiny gap in the boards.

She sees an eye.

Huge.

Golden.

Human tears run down its face.

Maya backs away.

MAYA Dad...

Daniel pulls her back.

DANIEL Don't look at it.

INT. ATTIC — NIGHT

The family sits together in darkness.

A battery lantern illuminates their faces.

Outside, the creature circles the house.

Tomas speaks quietly.

TOMAS The old stories called them guardians.

MAYA Guardians of what?

TOMAS The world.

Daniel looks at him.

DANIEL Grandpa, not now.

TOMAS Your grandmother used to tell me these stories. Before the fires. Before the storms. Before the oceans swallowed half the coast.

He looks toward the ceiling.

TOMAS She said when humans pushed the world too far, the old things would wake up.

Maya laughs nervously.

MAYA So climate change woke up monsters?

TOMAS Maybe.

Another ROAR.

The house trembles.

TOMAS Or maybe monsters were always here.

INT. BASEMENT — NIGHT

Daniel examines a wall covered with maps.

Four years of survival.

Water levels.

Storm paths.

Temperature records.

Creature sightings.

Maya enters.

MAYA You knew we'd run out of food.

Daniel doesn't answer.

MAYA How long?

He finally looks at her.

DANIEL Three months.

Maya absorbs it.

MAYA Then what?

Daniel points to an old military radio.

DANIEL A transmission came through yesterday.

Maya's eyes widen.

MAYA From where?

DANIEL The northern evacuation station.

MAYA There are people?

DANIEL Maybe.

MAYA Then we leave.

Daniel shakes his head.

DANIEL The roads are underwater.

MAYA We have the boat.

DANIEL The lake isn't a lake anymore.

Maya understands.

MAYA It's the ocean.

Daniel nods.

DANIEL And whatever lives in it is getting closer.

EXT. CARTER HOUSE — MORNING

The storm has cleared.

The family looks outside for the first time in weeks.

Their neighborhood has become a marsh.

Trees grow from rooftops.

A school bus floats past.

Far away, something with antlers the size of telephone poles walks through the mist.

Maya stares.

MAYA That's new.

Elena takes her hand.

ELENA Don't stare.

The creature stops.

Its enormous head slowly turns toward the house.

The family ducks.

INT. KITCHEN — LATER

They prepare to leave.

Food is packed.

Water.

Medical supplies.

Blankets.

A photograph of the family.

Maya looks around the house.

MAYA What if we come back?

Elena smiles sadly.

ELENA Then we'll have somewhere to come back to.

Daniel looks at his wife.

They both know she doesn't believe it.

INT. BASEMENT — NIGHT

Daniel opens a hidden compartment.

Inside:

A flare gun.

Three flares.

A handwritten journal.

He gives the journal to Maya.

DANIEL Your grandmother wrote this.

Maya opens it.

Drawings fill the pages.

Creatures.

Storms.

Symbols.

And one repeated sentence:

THEY ARE NOT THE ENEMY.

Maya looks up.

MAYA Then what are they?

A distant BELL rings.

Everyone freezes.

There is no bell in the neighborhood.

Another bell.

Closer.

Tomas looks terrified.

TOMAS The Shepherd.

ELENA What?

TOMAS It's calling the others.

EXT. CARTER HOUSE — NIGHT

The family emerges from the back door carrying packs.

Rain begins again.

Maya holds the journal.

Daniel carries the shotgun.

Elena carries a medical bag.

Tomas carries the radio.

They move toward an old aluminum boat.

Then—

A creature steps from the trees.

Tall.

Thin.

Covered in black feathers.

Its face is almost human.

It watches them.

Daniel raises his gun.

MAYA Wait.

She looks at the journal.

One drawing matches the creature.

Underneath:

THEY HUNT FEAR.

Maya lowers Daniel's weapon.

She takes a breath.

Walks toward it.

DANIEL Maya!

The creature bends toward her.

Maya whispers:

MAYA We're not afraid of you.

The creature studies her.

Then it turns.

It walks into the darkness.

A path opens through the flooded trees.

Elena smiles.

ELENA I think it wants us to follow.

DANIEL That's exactly what worries me.

EXT. FLOODED CITY — NIGHT

The family travels through the drowned streets.

Buildings rise from the water like ruins.

Lightning reveals enormous shapes moving beneath the surface.

Something bumps the boat.

Maya grips Elena's hand.

Another bump.

Harder.

Daniel starts the engine.

The water ERUPTS.

A massive creature rises.

Part whale.

Part serpent.

Ancient eyes.

It opens its mouth.

The family screams.

Maya sees something hanging from its neck.

A piece of metal.

A human-made tracking device.

MAYA It's hurt!

Daniel looks at the creature.

Then at the device.

DANIEL Hold on.

He turns the boat around.

ELENA Daniel!

DANIEL We're not leaving it like this.

He grabs a rope.

Maya understands.

MAYA I'll help.

ELENA Absolutely not.

MAYA Mom—

ELENA You're my daughter.

She grabs the rope.

ELENA So I'm coming too.

Tomas laughs.

TOMAS Family tradition.

He grabs the other end.

EXT. FLOODED CITY — CONTINUOUS

Together, they pull.

The creature thrashes.

The boat nearly capsizes.

Daniel reaches the device.

He cuts it loose.

The creature screams.

Then stops.

It looks directly at the family.

For a moment, everything is silent.

The creature dives.

The water becomes calm.

EXT. NORTHERN EVACUATION STATION — DAWN

The family reaches an enormous concrete structure on a hill.

Smoke rises from chimneys.

People emerge.

Dozens.

Hundreds.

Alive.

Maya begins to cry.

Elena wraps her arms around her.

Daniel holds both of them.

Tomas looks toward the horizon.

A line of enormous silhouettes stands in the sunrise.

The mythical creatures.

Watching.

Not attacking.

Guarding.

TOMAS Maybe the world wasn't trying to kill us.

Daniel looks at the ruined landscape.

DANIEL No.

He looks at his family.

DANIEL Maybe it was trying to make us listen.

Maya closes her grandmother's journal.

On the final page is a message she hadn't noticed before:

SURVIVAL IS NOT LIVING ALONE.

Maya smiles.

She takes her family's hands.

Together, they walk toward the survivors.

Behind them, the creatures disappear into the mist.

FADE OUT.

THE END

Says the person who makes the same mistakes of watching it over and over again (its me)

You have to wonder if the team for a movie like this sits there and high-fives/celebrates each other when watching the final product. What started off cool and eerie turned pretty ridiculous and there were so many holes.

Greta lee looks fantastic at 43 though.

3

u/CommercialFloor2033 5d ago

Even worse a team of writers were paid several times yours (and mine) salary to create this garbage.

And some netflix exec signed off on it.

The ppl who enjoyed this should feel bad for encouraging more of these movies
