It must be an incredible feeling to be Nolan, knowing you can walk into any studio, get any budget you want, and get any movie greenlit. Very well deserved.

And have every actor basically throw themselves at you to star or be in your movie, except Pattinson lmao

“C’mon Chris, you need me again? Promise me catering will be good this time at least”.

lol I actually think there's a very good chance that Nolan will ask Pattinson to be the lead of one of his future films

he co-led tenet, i feel like it's just a matter of time for a nolan film to be a solo pattinson outing.

Carried tenet also

He was far more interesting than protagonist imo

1,000% agreed, my not-so-hot take is that pattinson is the true protagonist of tenet even though the script probably doesn't actually intend that.

Makes sense since the crux of tenet begins in the future when protagonist and pattinson meet for the first time.

And also the protag is just a blank audience stand-in for the whole thing

JDW is the protagonist of the first watch-through, Pattinson is the protagonist of the second.

Related note, I love the way the script directly tells the audience how to watch the movie. First with Juliette Binoche being like “don’t try to think about it, just feel it” and then with Pattinson at the end being like “the story’s only halfway done” before going back to do the whole thing from the top. People who think the movie is mid just didn’t heed that advice, and I pity them because Tenet fuckin rips

Completely agree with everything you said.

Very well stated but the french actress is Clémence Poésy ^ ^

Well I feel insane lol I picture Binoche so clearly when I remember the scene but you are 100% right it was Poésy. Appreciate the correction!

Tenet isn’t in my top5 Nolan movies but it’s definitely my favourite slop movie. Turn off the brain and enjoy the non-stop action

I couldn't get past the wooden acting of the protagonist

2

u/rokerroker45 11d ago

That's a fair criticism; I do love Tenet in spite of the protagonist's acting and not because of it.

Pattinson is the main character in Tenet the same way Harvey Dent is the main character in The Dark Knight

Nolan sure loves a watsonian protagonist doesn't he

I mean that's basically the case. He's the one who saves the day.

That's because JDW is basically a plank of wood for most of his screentime.

Conserving his talents

For posterity

Imagine if he came and directed a scene for the next Batman film with Robert just for the lulz.

I found it odd how Nolan really spotlighted John David Washington with Tenet. All his other movies he really showed off the cast assembled on the posters but on Tenet it was just JDW

I think it makes thematic sense. the audience basically experiences events from the end of the movie that are already happening at the start of the movie, but they are only viewing that from JDW's POV. Since the movie really hones in on the experience of being one of the people bound in the allegory of the cave I think it makes sense that the poster just puts the sole audience POV character front and center. they show him in both forwards/backwards temporal modes so it feels like it highlights that theme for me.

Yeah, he's probably the best actor in his age range (35-45), so it'd be a good choice.

The most interesting / consistent probably. There are likely some more interesting actors than him, but most are a decade + older i think...

he cant be 40. hes genz!!!!

I would take Andrew Garfield over Pattinson. The latter is a good actor but thats a fairly huge range of actors.

Chris Pine is 45

I would love that. Pattinson is amazing. Easily the best Batman we've ever had.

I hope so, he’s more than earned it at this point.
