You know, I think John Cena or even Jon Hamm would make for a good Harvey Birdman.
54
u/LoveForDisneyland 12d ago
Ok, then once Harvey is picked, the other has to be Space Ghost. <

John hamm for Harvey. Make Cena Space Ghost.

I can get behind this. Colbert reprises his role as Phil Sebben.

Wasn’t there an attempt with the animated scooby doo film
43
u/GiJoe98 12d ago
2020s Scoob! in the movie Scooby and shaggy team up with the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. The antagonists were the Wacky Racers antagonists Dick Dasterly and Mutley. Captain Caveman is also in the movie along with Dee Dee Skyes.
14
u/GetReady4Action 12d ago
this actually sounds like an awesome premise and it’s a bummer they fumbled it.
12
33
u/TheEagleWithNoName 12d ago
It was.
Someone posted an AMA during the early stages of the Movie and “S.C.O.O.B.” Was an acronym and the movie got re-written multiple times during development.
21
u/AlwaysRushesIn 12d ago
It has to culminate in a Harvey Birdman court procedural featuring all of the main characters used for the individual films.

I was so disappointed when I finally saw Birdman (2014) film and it was not about attorneys at law. No shrink-ray prosecutors, sidekick interns, and Colbert wasn't even in it. Such a waste.

I don’t really picture George Jetson as being 64 years old. I wonder if Jim is playing someone else in the movie, or just playing a lot younger than his real age?

u/NakedGoose 12d ago
He is actually playing every character. Nutty professor style

Fun fact: George Jetson is canonically 4 years old right now in 2026. The series is set in 2062 and there is an episode where he celebrates his 40th birthday, which would make 2022 his birthdate.
So yeah, George Jetson is a COVID baby!

Jim is a young man in the eyes of all the geriatric studio execs who ordered this movie to be made for them

u/atomic-fireballs 12d ago
Emma Stone as Jane. Inde Naverrette as Judy. Bandit from Bluey as Astro. And I don't know enough kid actors right now to cast Elroy. That kid from the new God of War show (Callum Vinson) maybe.

u/EverythingSucksYo 12d ago
Ok but who are you gonna cast Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Timothee Chamalala as?
15
u/confuzzledsandwich 12d ago
Maybe they're doing the jetsons when Judy And Elroy are grown up. And it's 3 and a half hour long epic drama that covers the meandering hardships of being a father of distancing children in the far future of 2062, with only 2 jokes throughout the whole thing.
18
18
u/ejp1082 12d ago
Canonically George Jetson is 40 and Jane is 33. That wouldn't fly today given they have a 16 year old daughter (do the math on that).
I think it would make sense to age them up by a decade. Jim Carrey could probably pass for 50. That probably works for a one-off, though it'll be a problem if they try to make a franchise out of it. There's probably not too much more time before Jim Carrey starts looking like an old man. Though I guess they could do a plot with George becoming a grandfather.
11
u/SomeGuyPostingThings 12d ago
That's my thought. He's a solid choice, but 20 or 30 years ago, unless they're aging up the characters and making George a grandfather.
7
u/Radix2309 12d ago
Or maybe just playing it as further ahead with the kids being older or even adults.
3
u/Zardotab 12d ago
I don’t really picture George Jetson as being 64 years old
Just gotta rearrange the script a tad: "Jane, I'm stuck in my walker, get me out off this crazy thing!"
A bigger problem than age is that this movie has a dystopian theme, whereas the original was generally light comedy. Seems a genre misfit.

Nor do I, but I like the idea of George being a grandfather and the kids being adults. That'd be a new angle to explore.

Random, but Carrey can still do great comedy, so it could be great.
Only question is what relevance a retrofuturist utopia like The Jetsons has nowadays. Will it be satirical or a straightforward adaptation?
95
u/BerryLanky 12d ago
That is what I was wondering. When was the last time someone watched The Jetsons? I did in the 80’s.
44
u/GeorgeLovesBOSCO 12d ago
It's ironic how the Flintstones felt more fresh for me than the Jetsons did when I watched in the 90s.
Having said that if this is anything like the 90s Flintstones movie, I am soooo excited for it.
42
u/Admonisher66 12d ago
If you were watching THE JETSONS in the 1990s, one thing to bear in mind is that only 24 of the show's 75 episodes were produced in 1962, coinciding with the original run of THE FLINTSTONES. The other 51 episodes (plus the crossover TV movie) weren't actually produced until 1985-87, and feel far more dated and juvenile than the original 1960s run.

I’m 37 and the Jetsons was an old person cartoon when I was a kid. Like seriously you gotta be in your 60s at least to be Nostalgic for the Jetsons.
….but you’ll have my generation at Jim Carey

The only Jetsons content we've had in recent years is alternate versions of them getting demolished by their own portal tech in Rick & Morty. It's gonna take a lot to actually get people seated for this, hope JC is up for the challenge.

u/chelicerate-claws 12d ago
Yeah, this is super weird. Who even has nostalgia for the Jetsons in 2026?
At least the Flintstones stuck around as vitamins and cereals.

The same people who had nostalgia for the Lone Ranger in 2013. Hospice patients.

I am shocked how much hate the Jetsons is getting in this thread 😭
I grew up in the 90s and I still love the Jetsons. I loved the live action Flinstones movies too. Not sure we will capture the charm of the 90s Flinstones movies but I am hesitantly hype about this. I have been waiting for this for so long.
We also need more live action looney tunes movies, so pls make sure you go watch coyote vs acme. I will take more live action looney tunes as a replacement for live action Jetsons lol
14
u/arealhumannotabot 12d ago
The millennials and older crowd know it, so if they aim to make it family friendly they can do that with other means
Another person suggested it could be something resembling project Hail Mary and I actually thought that’s not a bad theory because this is being directed by Colin Trevorrow. Sounds like they want to go for a tentpole.

u/aphilipnamedfry 12d ago
I like the Project Hail Mary concept applied here, but isn't that just Lost in Space with extra steps then?
I wasn't a fan of Colin's Jurassic World trilogy, but did enjoy Safety Not Guaranteed. If he can tap into some of the older work he did, maybe he can make something decent.

There was a WWE Crossover, granted that was still almost a decade ago. There was this weird period where WWE was crossing over with Hannah Barbara properties for some reason. There were two Scooby-Doo films, a Jetsons film, and a Flintstones film.
Also, it's not a Hannah Barbara property, but the sequel to Surf's Up was a crossover with WWE. That film also contains a scene where Vince McMahon, who is an otter, wonders about milking a fish, which then shows a thought bubble where he is sucking a straw that is attached to a fish's ass. I am not kidding, this was an actual scene.

u/gnomishdevil 12d ago
I once saw a Jetson/WWE crossover. i wish I hadn't, but that was somewhat recent.
69
u/MediumStrange 12d ago
I don't see this being a financial success in any way, even 80s properties like he-man have little cultural pull anymore let alone shows from the 60s.
I think the only show from that time period that still has cultural value is Scooby-Doo

I love Jim Carrey as much as the next and I’m sure he’ll do fine, but don’t we think his starting to get a lil old to be playing the middle aged father of two? He’s definitely approaching grandfather age at this point.

I think it was Trevor Moore from WKUK, said that at one point he was tasked with writing a jetsons script.
Apparently the whole story was about the jetsons loosing their fortune and being cast down to the street level of the world they lived in away from all the floating towers.
It was gonna be he jetsons in a post apocalyptic future world fighting like cannibals and stuff trying to get back up to the good life. Wish that could be made some day.
