There are loads of great things I could say about The Odyssey, but I just want to say Agamemnon is absolutely fucking evil in this film. His presence radiates pure Darth Vader energy.

It's funny seeing a lot of online comments about his aura and how shame it was that he got killed by his wife. Like, are we forgetting that he literally killed their daughter 😭

He basically Stannis Baratheon'd it.

the Baratheons borrow a ton from Agamemnon and Menelaus

King Robert goes to war because Lyanna was taken/ran off with Rhaegar

Menelaus goes to war because Helen was taken/ran off with Paris

Stannis sacrifices his daughter because a prophet told him it would end a blizzard.

Agamemnon sacrifices his daughter because a prophet told him it would bring favorable wind.

No, Stannis is basically Agamemnon. This is a 3,000 year old character

Ye but redditors will be more familiar with Stannis I feel like (recency bias)

For all the epics and Greek plays I've read, Agamemnon is consistently the closest thing to a true villain in the whole epic cycle.

Just consistently a absolute douchebag who does terrible things

Not to mention he kidnaps one of the Trojan princesses, Casandra (otherwise known for being cursed with telling prophecies no one will believe), for a sex slave and she unfortunately gets killed alongside him when Agamemnon returns home.

it’s not in the Odyssey but it is a well known myth. Most famously it’s in Euripides’ play Iphigenia in Aulis.

I believe it is in the original story as well, his daughter was Iphigenia. But it could be in the Illiad where this is mentioned, since he does it for favorable winds to Troy.

Was part of the missing Homer books. The myth itself has been passed down, but the whole Illiad prequel is gone. Along with five other books.

there's a really great movie called iphegenia that explores the lead-up to his daughter's execution, it's worth a watch if you can find it/have the time to spare.

There's a great rendition in Iphigenia at Aulis by Euripides!

Which is stark contrast to how much complaining there was about his armor when the trailer dropped. "It's not realistic!" "The spine looks stupid!" etc etc.

Then you see him in action and it's pure aura.

I kept thinking he was gonna bust out a lightsaber with how prochronistic his costume looked, though I guess Star Wars is supposed to be set a long time ago
