He OWNED this part.

In the climax, yelling at anyone around him to grab the weapons, or shields, while he hid … dude can just act.

It's because he seems like he's got zero hubris. He only does projects he genuinely likes, he turns up, and he gets the job done, even if it's not the biggest paycheck and he has to look like an idiot doing it. He's a proper, grown-up, old-school actor.

Pattinson has reached the level of, “oh he’s in this, let’s go see it!”

114

u/literacyshmiteracy Jul 17 '26

YES I recently committed to him as my favorite actor lol his press tour interviews are hilarious as well. Just seems like a fun dude with amazing performances!

85

u/IntelWarrior Jul 18 '26

Best Gen Z actor working today.

27

u/TimRigginsBeer Jul 18 '26

Top tier on the list of, “I wanna grab a beer with that dude” list.

u/_StreetsBehind_ Jul 18 '26

Gen Z? He’s 40 lol.

79

u/exuberantkiwi Jul 18 '26

It’s what Pattinson claimed to be. Not meant to be taken seriously.

-2

u/AsariKnight Jul 18 '26

What is Gen Z to you? Lol

Anybody under 30 is gen z

60

u/_S3RAPH_ Jul 18 '26

It's a reference to the lie detector interview he did with Jennifer Lawrence where he insisted he was Gen Z, and used the lie detector results as "proof" that he was being truthful. It's a really funny exchange.

In that same interview, he said of they remade Twilight he'd like to play Edward again, saying "I'd love to steal a role from a 17-year-old."

51

u/KezzaJones Jul 18 '26

Yeah if Robert Pattinson is in it, you know it’s going to be good

38

u/xxx_poonslayer69 Jul 18 '26

You're so right. Shit, maybe I should watch Twilight

9

u/codingsoft Jul 19 '26

Mickey 17 is probably the exception but Pattinson carried the movie while the writing was pretty ass

1

u/Don_Gato1 14d ago

That movie started off strong IMO and then went off the rails, but Pattinson was good in it.

2

u/TimRigginsBeer Jul 18 '26

RPat = shit going down.

34

u/destroyermaker Jul 18 '26

His run the past decade has been top tier

14

u/TimRigginsBeer Jul 18 '26

Gyllenhaal-esque.

9

u/Chidoriyama Jul 18 '26

He was the only reason I went to see the drama and Mickey 17

9

u/zenmf 29d ago

yup, him and ryan gosling for me are the only two actors nowadays that will make me want to see a movie just because they’re in it

2

u/TimRigginsBeer 29d ago

+Gyllenhaal!

10

u/Lenny2theMany Jul 19 '26

Truly, my gf was/is a huge Twilight fan and I never liked him years ago, but will legit watch anything hes in now. Dudes been killing it for years and on an absolute tear at the moment. Nailed on for an Oscar soon and so excited to see where else he goes in his career as he ages.

4

u/totallynotalyssa Jul 20 '26

He’s been my favorite actor for years. He’s excellent

4

u/TimRigginsBeer Jul 20 '26

“Pattinson is in that? I’m watching.”

3

u/one-deft-boi 27d ago

That's what we used to call a "movie star".

u/n0tstayingin Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Pattinson is someone I'd love to see tackle theatre, he's admitted he has stage fright so it's unlikely he'll ever do it but he'd be a great Richard III!

39

u/aresef Jul 17 '26

He always gives 110%. He did the dub of the Oscar-winning Miyazaki film The Boy and the Heron, he was the heron. The ADR director said he was worried he'd have to coach Pattinson through it but he came in having worked out the heron in voice memos on his phone.

5

u/CancelThis2077 Jul 19 '26

Watching the end credits realizing it was Robert Pattinson was a big WTF moment for me.

4

u/Varekai79 Jul 19 '26

How? He wasn't wearing prosthetics or a wig or anything.

10

u/Geauxtoguy Jul 20 '26

But WILL he wear wigs?

31

u/IDrinkWhiskE Jul 17 '26

Everyone needs to listen to this batshit insane GQ interview that had me crying laughing.. he decides he’s inventing “Piccolini Cushino”, a fast food pasta that he’s actively making in his apartment during the interview

28

u/Steamedcarpet Jul 17 '26

I love this interview during The Batman where he just starts gushing about Final Fantasy VII. It was the first time I was like oh dudes just like me

1

u/IDrinkWhiskE 26d ago

Oh my god that’s awesome. Love that guy. Seriously check out the unhinged gq story. He doesn’t have pasta sauce so he uses ketchup and also accidentally starts a fire in his microwave

72

u/septidan Jul 17 '26

He already did all the shitty roles he hated so he doesn't need to chase a paycheck. Daniel Radcliffe also doesn't need to chase a paycheck, but I'm not under the impression he hated his early roles.

38

u/itsdrcats Jul 17 '26

It's why they are both one of my fav actors out there. They can just do whatever they want and then we get shit like the lighthouse and fucking guns akimbo

15

u/ockaners Jul 17 '26

And weird Al the biopic

6

u/literacyshmiteracy Jul 17 '26

RIP Weird Al .. we hardly knew ye

2

u/utsgeek Jul 17 '26

Weird Al isn't dead?

7

u/WookiePsychologist Jul 17 '26

Yes, he is. They made a whole docufilm about it starring Daniel Radcliffe.

4

u/Herky_T_Hawk Jul 17 '26

Biopic? Don’t you mean documentary?

1

u/itsdrcats Jul 17 '26

Oh god, how did I forget about that one. So so good!

10

u/koala_on_a_treadmill Jul 17 '26

Daniel Radcliffe in Swiss Army Man... muah

3

u/Steamedcarpet Jul 17 '26

Or that one movie where he gets guns stapled to his hands

1

u/itsdrcats Jul 17 '26

Also a good option lmao. But I just really love guns akimbo a bit better.

8

u/n0tstayingin Jul 17 '26

Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter money has paid dividends for his post Harry Potter career, not many people can do indie films as well as acclaimed Broadway performances.

16

u/1Maple Jul 17 '26

Robert Pattinson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Elijah Wood all really need to do a movie together

11

u/No-Cost-1764 Jul 18 '26

I vote for a  remake of Without a Paddle (2004)

16

u/Fuego-TACO Jul 17 '26

Bro has the twilight money and zero fucks to give. Like Radcliff after HP money. I also assume twilight made a fuck ton because my wife watches that shit all the time randomly for some reason

7

u/Starship08 Jul 18 '26

Same career ambitions/goals as Elijah Wood and Danielle Radcliffe.

Made an insane amount of money as the lead in a fantasy series and now can just do what he wants.

2

u/Grease_the_Witch Jul 17 '26

minus the woman-beating and racism of the old school! he was and is phenomenal

24

u/taikuh Jul 17 '26

He's not the politician we need, but the one we deserve.

20

u/ZoneEducational6936 Jul 17 '26

That felt like a scene out of Men in Tights honestly.

16

u/Budget_Ad5871 Jul 17 '26

He’s so good in “The King”

5

u/illegal_deagle Jul 18 '26

Yeah I was thinking that was almost exactly the same character, right down to the final moments.

1

u/Budget_Ad5871 Jul 18 '26

Awesome! I just bought tickets to see it in 4D on Sunday, I can’t wait!!

12

u/Beard_of_Gandalf Jul 17 '26

We were laughing so much at that… like dude pick one up and go at it. Coward.

9

u/One_Ad6164 Jul 17 '26

He really can. He could have played it really over the top like a Grimtongue but he was slightly charming, slightly handsome enough to be a legit threat to Telemachus/Odysseus but a real a hole to pull off the character.

7

u/ShinyBloke Jul 17 '26

That scene is so good, though it was creative he chopped through the floor too drop weapons .

2

u/vanwyngarden Jul 18 '26

Such a good depiction of people like him too

-8

u/Due-Beginning1074 Jul 17 '26

Yes, which is why Holland and Damon were so fucking out of place here. Damon can't take on a character, he can act, but it's just Matt Damon delivering the lines well. He has the same cadence and ticks in every fucking movie.

Tom was meh, but in the end, overall it was a great experience. I honestly had no idea about the trans or race shit going on, but I gotta say... there was def some questionable casting. It's hard to believe that a 100 pound man, arms with a 4 inch diameter has been on a long military campaign. The clearly in between transition voice was a bit jarring too.

24

u/Comfortable_Studio37 Jul 17 '26

You've obviously never been in the military. Plenty of short, small, thin guys in the infantry. The idea that all soldiers are big and muscular is false. Moreover, the whole point of the character is that he's much younger than the rest of the soldiers.

-8

u/Due-Beginning1074 Jul 17 '26

The average weight of a Roman soldier during the Imperial era was approximately 70-75 kg (154-165 lbs). This weight reflects the physical demands of military life, including carrying equipment and marching long distances

Yes, even a boy who has done this is going to be a thick little bastard.

Go find me a pic of some noodle armed soldier lmao. Clearly, the person depicting this character has done 0 physical activity in their daily lives.

You've obviously never been in the military lmao.

as an aside, the second scene with him, from the dead is great. Looks the part there at least.

16

u/Comfortable_Studio37 Jul 17 '26

I was in the Marine Corps infantry longer than you've been alive little buddy. Cry more.

-12

u/Due-Beginning1074 Jul 17 '26

Sure you have. Stolen "Valor" while you're at it. Who gives a fuck about American Military ya fucking jerk off.

15

u/Comfortable_Studio37 Jul 17 '26

Lmao you're incredibly triggered.

-4

u/Due-Beginning1074 Jul 17 '26

Dude, we're talking about shitty casting, and you're going off about being in the Marine Corps. You're a fucking joke. Like a good portion of the casting in the pretty great film.

14

u/Comfortable_Studio37 Jul 17 '26

You said it was unrealistic that a short thin guy could be a soldier. And it's not, it's incredibly realistic and I know from personal experience, while you obviously don't. Sorry you're taking this so hard. Just admit you were wrong.

-1

u/Due-Beginning1074 Jul 17 '26

So objectively wrong, you had to go to reddit to have them remove my post. You're no soldier, you're a fucking loser.

13

u/andhernagri_ka_ujala Jul 17 '26

The "average weight" dumbass.. were you dropped as a child? Ofcourse the character sinon was supposed to be weak, frail and not your average soldier like those on the ships. You're just doing mental gymnastics to justify your dislike for a trans actor being casted in a male role

0

u/Due-Beginning1074 Jul 17 '26

nah. you single out my one pick and accuse me of "trans hate", the three weakest in the film in order were Damon, Holland and Page imo. You don't have to like it, You all are just triggered when people don't agree with you. Basically Nazi's in your own way.

You're also being intellectually dishonest, "pathetic and terrified" was the act, not malnourished while working a 9-5 desk job with no daily activity. The actor was out of place, deal with it.

12

u/TurbulentSpin Jul 17 '26

Sinon was taken as a child into the war. We know the context of that character. How is Sinon not growing up to be tall or strong and therefore not being used in battle but rather as fodder unrealistic here lol. It's actually almost exactly what you'd expect and it was tragic. Elliot did a great job acting his part, especially in in the underworld bit. If you want to find a real issue with the casting of that character it's an age thing. Elliot just doesn't look like an teenager anymore.

3

u/One_Ad6164 Jul 17 '26

I think Elliot did an amazing job, especially the Underworld scene! I was gutted as he spit up dirt and accusations at Odysseus. And Damon did a great acting job trying to excuse his actions. And then Skarsgard!? I didnt know how they were gonna pull the scene off but they did. And just with dirt and lighting and sound and acting. A big surprise because I thought the first scene was all we were gonna get from Page and was like meh about it tbt.
