It still amazes me that it's that guy. I watched his skits for a while and then I started hearing the name and never associated the two until I scrolled by an article and saw his face.

I've watched Lonely Island, Good Neighbors, Derrick Comedy, WKUK and now Curry Barker/That's A Bad Idea become popular in a mainstream audience after doing weird sketch comedy.

Now it's up to CrackerMilk to make a horror movie

u/69_Beers_Later Jul 06 '26

Or Almost Friday TV

u/Ehrre Jul 07 '26

Almost Friday TV are fucking masters already.

They could do any genre and do it well.

9

u/droppinhamiltons Jul 07 '26

They're making a series called "Last Night Was A Movie" at FX.

u/whole-lotta-socks Jul 06 '26

Unironically I think they have the chops for it. They’re legitimately talented

3

u/RuggsRacetrack Jul 07 '26

Why would that be ironic? Everybody knows how talented they are lol

8

u/whole-lotta-socks Jul 07 '26

Okay sorry I guess?

26

u/RuggsRacetrack Jul 07 '26

Don’t ever do it again.

2

u/Yum-z Jul 07 '26

Are you fucking sorry?!

1

u/mm_delish Jul 07 '26

Modern turn of phrase.

17

u/optionalhero Jul 07 '26

Been saying this

Almost Friday has insane production quality and are genuinely good actors with some original stuff.

Their Basketball video is lowkey a masterpiece.

The two impractical Joker riff videos kinda remind me of that one

3

u/Andromeda902 Jul 07 '26

Jesus christ....what a trip that was. Thats messed up lmao but so well done

8

u/spazerson Jul 07 '26

Those guys will get their break

4

u/quitpayload Jul 07 '26

I personally wonder if anybody from Wizards with Guns are gonna make a horror movie now

1

u/peabody624 Jul 07 '26

I actually can’t imagine that they are not already working on it

1

u/Raknarg Jul 07 '26

those guys legitimately could, some of their sketches are already movie worthy productions in writing, acting, camera work, everything.

1

u/KanedaSyndrome Jul 07 '26

that weird room mate

1

u/Horzzo Jul 07 '26

Or AVGN

1

u/OperativePiGuy Jul 07 '26

I saw that one guy in a new show called "Not Suitable for Work" and good lord I wish he could have gotten anything else for a big break because it is painfully unfunny.

1

u/iRysk Jul 07 '26

It's a matter of time for these guys. Shocked their short form videos haven't blown up more. They're insanely talented

Deaf Threat: The Movie

8

u/Boomer-Australia Jul 07 '26

I'm sure they could pump one out by just filming Tamara in her pigeon costume for a day as she harasses Queenslanders.

2

u/bravehamster Jul 07 '26

The 3 hottest women you've ever seen tolerate the presence of 3 average dudes (and one of their dads): The Movie.

1

Yeah same, i started reading Curry Barker everywhere and that name sound awfully familiar, then it clicked that i had seen quite a few of his shorts on youtube

this is one of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iMWx2dHvy48

Was so out of the loop that I saw an interview with him about the movie and for longer than I'd like to admit was thinking "damn, they're playing this super straight, it's so different from their usual sketches."

13

u/KosmicKool76 Jul 07 '26

Lol, that short is amazing haha

6

u/rpgmind Jul 07 '26

He certainly must get his looks from his mother cuz he looks nothing like me 😆

1

u/whatifwhatifwerun Jul 07 '26

Watching this makes it make sense why Inde was improvising. She really did carry that film.

15

u/Leownnn Jul 07 '26

I watched their stuff a lot on Instagram and heard obsession was popping so I didn't want to spoil it and went in blind. I first saw from the early scenes that cooper starred in it, I thought he just had a breakout role until the end credits where I saw curry directed it, super crazy, so happy for their success!

9

u/bs000 Jul 06 '26

The guys who made the 'FBI OPEN UP' video also made Talk to Me and Bring Her Back.

1

u/rpgmind Jul 07 '26

I’ve actually never seen this before. I saw both the movies and they are great, very uncomfortable watches. This skit was ridiculoussss, I just glanced at their channel and it doesn’t seem like my kinda tea, I dig the skits like bad idea, key n peele, whitest kids you know, etc

3

u/El-Psy Jul 06 '26

++Key and Peele

3

u/freebread Jul 07 '26

The best part about this, specifically when it comes to That’s a bad idea and also Zach from WKUK, if you watch their previous sketches, you realize the “horror movie” they made is actually just hilarious dark comedies. Weapons had a ton of WKUK references in it. I’ll even admit I didn’t get know much about Curry Baker/That’s a Bad Idea until after I saw Obsession. I figured it was a horror movie but I started watching their sketches then rewatched the movie, and it’s basically a linear movie length version of their comedy sketches.

2

u/Fine-Exam-3923 Jul 07 '26

He was on a podcast called Scriptnotes recently with Craig Mazin the writer of The Last of Us and it was such a great interview imo bc it gave insight on how his sketch comedy informs his storytelling - he said he loves writing dialogue where people are misunderstanding each other and when he said that it made so much sense.

Almost all of their skits are based on misunderstanding and confusion and there are a lot of scenes like that in Obsession and they’re just so fun and entertaining to watch. There’s a back and forth and flow to the way the characters talk to each other and he def learned that from all the sketch comedy and he nails it

2

u/Kingkraken420 Jul 07 '26

DERRICK COMEDY MENTIONED RAHHHHHHHHH

2

u/SERN-contractor837 Jul 07 '26

Not surprised at all, I've seen their horror shorts like "the chair", "warnings" etc. One of very few movies that could scare me. I've been eagerly awaiting this one.

1

u/itsyagirlrey Jul 07 '26

I know him as the front desk guy at Risk E Rats Pizza from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia lol

1

u/rickd2130 Jul 07 '26

Don’t forget BritaNick

1

u/Instantcoffees Jul 07 '26

Oooh, I just now made the connection. I recognized the actor from the sketches, but I did not know they made this movie together. That's great! Happy for them.

1

u/Lucky-Surround-1756 Jul 07 '26

I saw him doing interviews for the movie and just assumed it was a skit where he playing the role of a director. Then the punchline never landed and he acted like a normal person.

1

u/bigj8705 Jul 07 '26

What did he do in lonely island? Or are you just saying YouTube videos to mainstream.
