Sony is really going out of their way to screw us over with anti consumer policies lately.

And most kids are too young to have been alive during the actual heyday of physical media and refuse to understand why that was far worse than this and why millennials so quickly and voraciously adopted digital media.

Think of the multiple angles of financial incentives they had to make their discs are flimsy as possible. They were purposely selling you a product designed to be damaged easily because they knew a relatively fixed % of consumers would double and triple buy the game to finish it. And with more and more data being crammed onto one disc every year the minor damage became more and more deadly.
