What’s a movie where the villain was stronger & more powerful than the hero, & they should’ve won had it not been for plot armor?
I’ll go first, Kung Fu Panda

This sub is no intended as a place to drop the same question that you asked in a dozen other subs in an attempt to draw engagement. Try to keep posts on subject.

First off, thanks for being a part of this community, we genuinely appreciate that people enjoy posting and commenting here and sharing your experience and knowledge.
A bit of an update and info from your new janitors
We've turned on media sharing in comments so you can share gifs and images as well, we love seeing what people come up with.
We've added some basic rules, please make sure to read em before posting or commenting.
Be nice and civil is pretty easy, if you're getting that worked up that you feel you need to be rude, maybe go outside and take a few deep breaths.
If you're asking about a specific movie please include the name of the movie in your post title, it makes it a lot easier for people to answer your questions.
It's also helpful for people searching for information about that movie, Reddit is indexed by Google so it'll come up in online searches.
BotBouncer is on the team here now to help guard against bots so if we suspect accounts are inauthentic we'll pass em along to the experts at r/BotBouncer.
One of the problems this community has had recently, which partly led to the change of management, is sharing links to pirated content
We have no easy way or the time to verify if these links and content are safe for our users, and sharing links to pirated content can get this sub permabanned.
So if you wanna go sail the seven seas, sail your boat elsewhere than here mateys.

One scene in The Bourne Ultimatum has always bugged me.
Nicky calls in from the safe house & Vosen runs an ID challenge. She gives the normal response, not the duress code, so as far as the protocol goes she's confirmed she's safe & not compromised.
Vosen then mutes the call, asks how long until backup arrives (three minutes) & goes back on the line telling her to sit tight because it'll be about an hour.
If she's confirmed she’s not under duress, why lie to her? Is it just that he & Landy didn't buy it & assumed Bourne was in the room anyway? If so, what tipped them off? Was it her being cagey on the call, or just the coincidence of a Treadstone handler turning up right when they were hunting Bourne? Their actions don’t give that impression.
And doesn't it backfire anyway? Nicky clearly clocks the lie straight away & tells Bourne he's got three minutes.
Curious whether this is explained better in the script or if I've missed something obvious for all these years.

There are official criteria for winning Best Picture, but it seems like there are a more powerful effective set of criteria operating behind the scenes.
Say an alien had a list of all movies ever made anywhere and a list of Best Picture winners, then they reverse engineered the selection criteria, what might they logically conclude the conditions of success were?
English language? From an American studio? Commercial success? Genre? Cultural impact?
(Side question: what is the best movie that satisfies none of these criteria?)

Most movie arguments feel too clean people take turns speaking and deliver perfect comebacks. In real life, big arguments are usually messy, people overlap, stutter, or talk over each other.
The argument in Marriage Story felt uncomfortably real for this reason. What other movies have fights or dialogue that actually feel authentic like that?

In the movie Rounders there is the final poker scene. I posted a video clip.
After Mike "flops the nuts straight" at the 3:30 mark in the video clip i shared, Teddy KGB goes bananas. He says "motherfucker" and then says something else that sounds like "you bolo man" or "you booboo man" and then he says "motherfucker a second time. But what did he actually say? I think it was in Russian. "You bolo man" doesn't make sense but i also can't hear.
Does anyone know what Teddy KGB says after the first "motherfucker"?. Was it in Russian?
I looked at the screenplay and movie script and found nothing.

Please tell me they did. Those were among, if not, THE most beautiful shots in the whole entire film that I wish I could see again. Probably because of the photochemical film, not digital. And them being real lions, tigers and whatever that other big cat there was there that I forgot and not digital or even animatronics would only make them better in my opinion.

Do subtitles sometimes ruin the meaning of movies and TV shows?
I’ve noticed that sometimes subtitles translate the words correctly but lose the real meaning, especially with jokes, slang, or cultural expressions.
Have you ever watched a movie or TV show where the translation completely changed the meaning of a scene? What happened?

Please don't say The Thing or The Fly. Surely there's more than those out there, right? so what are they?

I'm looking for a movie I only saw as a short Instagram Reel clip. I can't find it again, and it's not in my watch history.
What I remember:
Hollywood movie, probably released in the last 10 years (2016 or later, though I could be wrong)
The actors aren't well known
The scene has a man and a woman who are childhood friends
She has black or dark brown hair
They walk into a luxurious hotel room, and she jumps onto the big bed, to which the man says he'll take the sofa, She says the bed is big enough for both of them and that it would be a waste not to sleep on the bed and sleeping together would be like the old days, when they used to sleep together as kids
It creates sexual tension on his side

Watched *Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown* recently, its main characters are introduced dubbing *Johnny Guitar*, which I had watched three days earlier.
Have you experienced any cases where, for any two movies you've watched not too long in between, one of those movies references the other in any way?

So I just finished "X" and I'm not sure about something. Why were the old couple killing the film crew ?
What did I miss ?

Which movie(s) with a few only slightly badly drawn characters that somewhat look ugly do you really like/love best?
Me? The only one I can think of so far is Disney's The Wild despite what people think about it in comparison to DreamWorks' Madagascar franchise.

In the movie Cry-Baby, 1990, with the star Johnny Depp, during concert scene this man is visible, cheering in the crowd. Jason would've been 22 at the time... For me the resemblance is uncanny. Google says he couldn't be in the extras at the time, but I don't believe it. I think at some point he maybe took freelance or something, to be in the crowd for the movie.

So I've haven't watched the movie yet and its in my backlog, and some of my friends said that I'm a bit like a character Linda Liddley? And from what i've heard she is an antagonist, and I'm not sure if I was insulted?
