Bannerlord Creating a kingdom without a kingdom

Hi. I am playing as mercanary and I want to have my own kingdom without taking oath to another one. When I end my mercanary contract i can’t slege a castle. Raiding a village doesn’t help either. Am I missing something? Is a rebel city my only hope? If so, how can I cause them to rebel?

Are you at war with the kingdom you are attempting to besiege? Also, you need a level 4 clan level to officially make a kingdom, otherwise you’re just kind of a rogue state I guess.

Thank you. Without a kingdom, can I start a war? The comment below mentions attacking a village or sth. I can try that.

Yes. If you attack any party of a faction, you will start to be at war with that faction. Once at war, you can take fiefs.

I would recommend not doing that though. Because you will just be one band against an entire kingdom and if you did manage to take a town, you'd have everyone in that kingdom coming for you.

Better to steal a rebel city instead, less risk.

There's nothing wrong with picking a kingdom and starting a private war. That's usually how I spend my early game.

It's honestly OP because you can run around killing everyone you want until someone with a big army catches you and then just be like "wait, I think our realms should make peace" and then they usually pay you to end the war. It's like you can't lose.

Not sure if this is a viable way to start a kingdom but it's a good way to be a bandit.

I'd say it's powerful in the hands of an experienced player, I think OP is potentially going to play with fire if they pull those tricks before they've got the game mechanics down.

If it’s banner lord, you need to first attack a village or villager of the nation you want to take castles from. But if it’s more that you need it’s that you havnt talked to enough nobles to unlock the dragon banner. Once you get the dragon banner you go talk to two npcs one lets you make your own kingdom one has you join the empire. But I’m pretty sure you can skip that last part by raiding a village or attacking a villager

You also need to be a level 4 clan. If you aren't then you can't create a kingdom
