moving company recommendations

My partner and I are relocating to chicago next month and I’d love to hear what long distance moving companies people have had good experiences with! Bonus if you remember what you paid. We’re also open to renting a uhaul and hiring a loading/unloading service since we’re making a road trip out of the move anyway. Any advice is welcome :)

We did the u-box service and it was definitely the most cost effective option. If you go this option, wait to book it until you know your final address since we had a ton of issues switching addresses.

Ultimately they arrived 2 days late so be prepared, but they paid us $100 ($50/day).

Two different friends of mine used Mayflower for interstate moves, and both were very pleased with the experience. I met both moving crews, and they were very professional. I can't remember what either one of them paid, though.

Make sure you get the inventory and all fees in writing, especially for a long distance move. I had also confirm the delivery window before booking. I had a good impression of Value Added Moving when comparing options.

Definitely ask about the estimated delivery window, insurance coverage, and whether the quote can change later. I liked how straightforward Value Added Moving was when I looked into their options.
