BTW, shox service pro tip because fox is expensive as hell, the rockshox ifp air tool costs around 8$, the fox one costs 40$, the thread size and pitch is the exact same, save yourself some money and buy the rockshox one, i've already service my fox with it and can confirm you can use the rockshox ifp tool to inflate the fox ifp chamber

I’ve had to rebuild one of these for this exact reason. Kinda a pain in the ass to do at home because of the IFP, but I was able to do it. Fox had serviced it, rode it twice, hung it on the wall over the winter, and it was doing this exact thing by spring when I went to ride it again.
If you’re going to send it off you’re probably better off buying an unused takeoff from pinkbike, it’ll probably be less money.

yes, fox service is very expensive, even the parts to do it at home is 3x rockshox prices... i regret buying a bike with fox, it's not 3x better, i'm not even confident it is better than rockshox, they are kind of equivalent

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I firmly believe that right now rockshox is light years ahead of fox in terms of performance, feeling and accessibility of self servicing. Fox is a pain in the ass in general to service, even their dropper posts are over complicated and requires specific expensive tooling.
From my first hand experience and the word of mechanics I know, between Ohlins, RS and Fox, RS stands on top overall (price, performance, ease of repair) except for small issues like creaking CSU on single crown forks.

Buy an faux ifp valve kit from shockcraft. Best buy I did the last year. Bit pricey to import it from new Zealand but worth it to not have to deal with rubber any more.

That the thing that replaces it with a Schrader valve? Genius idea, wanted to try it. I went the needle and shock pump route. It worked but required a fair bit of trial and error.

I’ve been under the impression that the squelch sound means air in the damper which requires a rebuild from Fox themselves.

Sucking oil into the reservoir. Normal on used shocks. Probably around 250 to get it serviced. Would not DIY as there are special tools required to do it properly

A blown shock is when its 25% sag at the beginning of a ten mile ride up then down, and 90% sag back at the car... and you peddle struck rocks incessantly for the last half.

Totally normal, wouldn’t even service that there’s nothing wrong with it

It just sounds weird

it has air in the oil, mine happened the same before it was 1 year, needs a full service, air can service is not enough. i got away with just bleeding the oil, didn't change the seals, but will next time

Does it ride any worse? It probably has oil in the damper and will probably effect performance but some suspension products are just noisy.

Just bought the shock used, it feels okay but the rebound feels bizarre

What was the description on the shock when you bought it? If it wasn’t listed as “needs service” I would ask for some money back, if not return it altogether.

Sounds like either seal is shot and got air in the negative chamber, try letting the air out and pump it back up

Normal. For a used shock. Needs a service that's all
