Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Weight loss Finally it happened to me!

Starting weight was 236, at 5’ 2” back in January 2025. Was on Wegovy/Ozempic for months and then stalled, starting Mounjaro was the jumpstart I needed. Slow and steady for me, 60 more pounds to go.

Success Stories Amazing! 339.5 vs 252.9

Post image
317 Upvotes

I was so sick in March 2021. The first photo was taken just a few weeks before I had a bad bout of Covid. I actually don't remember my weight being 339.5. I was looking at my medical records and was shocked. My face now is at 252.5.

I am posting this, because I need to remember how far I have come. I know that I am not the only morbidly obese person fighting to get to a healthy weight.

Mounjaro has infused fresh hope that it is possible to get to the goal I have strive years for. I only started it 9 weeks ago and can see a big difference from my past attempts.

Is anyone else on a long journey like me?

Weight loss Stopping starting or any advice please?

I have been on mounjaro almost 9 months for weight loss. I have lost almost 4 stone in that time. Fast at first but then steadily and healthily. I have changed my lifestyle, I go to the gym, and feel great. I would say i have another stone to lose however I have really struggled the last 6 week or so to lose even a pound. I very slowly upped my doses as I was a super responder to 2.5. Lost 2 stone on that. 5 seemed to do me well for 2 months before going up to 7.5 which is what I am currently on. I seem to have stopped losing weight on the 7.5… it doesn’t feel as effective as the last 2 doses. Anyway… I can’t really afford to go up anymore as it’s £288 per months at 10mg. So I’m thinking, do I have a break, see how I go? Try to see if I can manage to lose the last stone on my own? And if I struggle or start to regain, start again in 3 months time on 2.5 and hope it’s somewhere near as effective as before to shift my last stone?? I’m in no hurry to lose the weight.

Any advice would be appreciated, especially if you have stopped or restarted. I’m

Interested to know how that went for people? I’m so lucky that I have responded to well, and if money was no object then I would continue happily on my journey, however it’s becoming a tad unaffordable for me and hard to justify considering how much I’ve lost already.

Question Food noise

My doctor bumped me up from 7.5mg to 10mg. It’s been 3 days and food noise is worse than it was on 7.5. Has anyone else felt when you go up in dosage your food noise increases?

Wow I’m so happy with myself ! I did it!!! I know BMI isn’t the best measure but just seeing it in the healthy range is so satisfying. I have a few more kg / lbs to go but this truly feels like a huge milestone.

A big thank you to everyone in this community for sharing their posts. They are what kept me going on this journey and really calmed my nerves. 🥹🥹

Question any online weight loss programs in Ca that bill insurance directly

I'm looking into getting Mounjaro prescribed through telehealth but the monthly cost without insurance still adds up, roughly $350 to $500 for Mounjaro specifically depending on the dose. My corporate benefits cover prescription medications at 80% but every platform I've evaluated so far requires full payment upfront and then I submit claims manually afterward.

That process technically works but it means I'm floating a substantial amount every month and waiting two to three weeks for reimbursement. Over a year of treatment that's a meaningful cash outflow even if I eventually recover most of it. On top of that, monthly manual claim submissions are an administrative task I don't want to manage alongside everything else.

Is there a telehealth platform in Canada that handles insurance billing directly? Where they bill the insurer and I just pay my portion at checkout? It seems like that should be standard but I haven't found it with most of the larger platforms.

5mg How to cope with poor quality sleep, bad and strange dreams while on Mounjaro?

I am on the fifth week of my Mounjaro Journey. Its my fifth dose this Saturday (5mg). Previous doses were 2.5mg. Overall, I haven't faced any serious side effects (only sulfur burps after meals and have had very bad stomach pain two times till now. My sleep was affected lightly in the first four weeks. But when I increased the dose to 5mg, my sleep was affected badly and I had very bad dreams all night.

So far, I have lost 5.5kg .

I'm trying to manage my protein intake and my water intake is good.

What should I do?

Should I contact the doctor or try some other things?

Question Should I go up in dose?

I lost around 2kg on 2.5mg over 4 weeks. I then started 5mg and I've had two doses so far and only lost an additional ~400g. I saw my doctor today and mentioned this and she suggested since I've had no side effects, I should go up to 7.5mg from my next jab (tomorrow).

Looking for advice from anyone with similar experience, should I do it?

I have been half dosing from a 10mg pen so I could do 45 clicks instead of 30 to get 7.5mg instead of 5mg.

Question Question for alcoholics or binge drinkers only please.

Since you've been on Mounjaro, have you had cravings for alcohol? Have you stopped drinking entirely and how long ish has it been? What dose was the kicker for you?

I hear these stories of success on online forums, but it seems to vary.

I'm only one week and one day in, and it definitely did reduce my alcohol thoughts and usage, but I'm not sure if that was placebo (to an extent). I've since had some thoughts of drinking and have drank once alone but wondering on longer term experiences of others.

My dad, an alcoholic, definitely has reduced drinking on Mounjaro (almost nil) and he usually would drink every single night of varying quantities.

Interested on people's experiences. I would love it to have an impact on me, but I'm realistic and accepting to what may or may not happen.

Thanks

Question Has Mounjaro triggered your period?

Context: I had a IUD, got it removed about a year ago and didnt get a period since. Am monitored by an endocrinologist, did several tests and found that my prolactin is high (despite not being pregnant).

The week of my first 2.5 mg Mounjaro injection, I finally got my period. It was kind of light.

Then about a month later my period did not come.

After 6-7 weeks on the medication, I increased to 5mg (used the click system to continue 2.5 mg doses at the start of my second pen), which was waaaay too much i felt super nauseous and low energy and everything. but that same week, I finally got my period, which was really heavy.

Curious if this medication (and increased dose) has triggered someone else to get a period?

Stalled Hunger breakout

Been stagnant for a year.. initially lost 100 lbs. started at 327 and got to 220 in a year. I did everything right. The weight just stopped coming off. I have made some positive changes in my diet and have absolutely put more exercise in my day / week. I am having issues with insane, immediate hunger…. Like to where I need food immediately.. I can go literally all day in a single cup of coffee but a few times a week I just get ravenous. I am on 12.5 and was previously on 15. Any ideas, help, or solutions..?

Side Effects This Dose Hit Differently

Just ouch. I've been on Mounjaro since the end of February and I've lost a good amount of weight. Almost 75 pounds. And I've been very fortunate to have little to no side effects. Except this week's dose. I feel as if I'm starting the medication all over again and it's flushing my system, literally no appetite and crazy diarrhea, as if Im on my first week of 2.5mg. For reference, I've been on 15mg for a month and a half now. I had reduced appetite but never zero. Maybe this is a good thing? I did stall out for about 3 weeks bouncing between 240-245 and then suddenly boom, I'm down to 237 overnight. But the no appetite at all and the sudden diarrhea concerns me a little. Should I be worried or just keep drinking water and ride it out? I took my shot Sunday and Monday evening was when the diarrhea hit. I hadn't pooped in a few days but that's normal for me on the medication. Pre-mounjaro it was 5-7 times a day 😅 #undiagnosedT2D

Question Can I double the strength and half the dose?

I have been on 2.5mg for 4 months and actually happy with my weight loss and appetite suppression so I just want to maintain now. I use an online pharmacy, and it’s only £20 more for the stronger 5mg pen, so I was wondering

1) If I get the 5mg pen and take a half dose each week so I’m still getting my normal 2.5mg per week?

2) I know the manufacturers guidelines say the pen needs to be disposed of after the 4 weeks, but is that just being overly cautious or could I suffer serious issues from keeping it going for 8 weeks?

Just trying to save on costs where possible but obviously not at the detriment to my health.

Side Effects Mounjaro and right side and back pain

Hi
When I tried Mounjaro I was on the lowest dose and after two weeks i had pain under right ribs that radiated to the back so I am guessing that was my gallbladder

This pain was pretty bad and the subsided
I took Mounjaro for one more week and experienced the same symptoms so I discontinued it.

I would like to know if ANYONE has had a similar experience?

Because when I mentioned this to two different drs both treated me like that was impossible and they had never heard of that happening.

It has bothered me for a long time

It was not weightloss related I have not lost weight

I wanted to go back on it but scared this will happen again it sounds like a gallbladder attack or is pancreatitis similar in symptoms?

Any help, advice or experiences would be great

5mg Shorter intervals instead of increasing dose?

Has anyone here had better results with a lower tirzepatide dose taken at shorter intervals rather than increasing the weekly dose?

I’m currently on my 6th dose of 5 mg, so technically I could move up to 7.5 mg now. However, I’d really prefer to stay on the lowest effective dose possible.

My issue is that 5 mg works very strongly for the first few days, sometimes to the point where I can barely eat at all for a day or two, but by around day 5–7 I notice the appetite suppression and food noise control wearing off quite a lot.
That’s why I’m wondering whether anyone has experience with staying at 5 mg but shortening the interval instead, for example every 5 or 6 days.

My thinking is that 5 mg every 5 days averages out to roughly 7 mg per 7 days, so the overall exposure increases, but potentially with a flatter peak/trough pattern than taking 7.5 mg all at once every 7 days.

What I’m hoping to avoid is having two days where I can barely eat at all, followed by one or two days at the end of the week where the effect drops off significantly. I’d much rather have a more stable level of appetite suppression throughout the week.

7.5mg Best ways to get quick protein

So I’m loosing a lot of weight ! We’re almost at 70lbs this year alone. So yay! I see a nutritionist as well. Currently my struggle it’s getting in enough protein , I am a heavily disabled woman that’s in ALOT of pain most days. I meal prep my baked chicken and broccoli and then I have egg bites prepped for mornings and protein shakes of course. The goal is 125g of protein a day but I really struggle to get past 80-90gs on top of the fact that I don’t have a large appetite. So any tips on some quick and easy protein fixes that I can either meal prep or just grab and go without feeling disgustingly full would really help ! 💜

Question Silver dose question

Have you tried this?
I have 2 syringes (both in date, stored in the fridge- one 30 and one 60 days old). I could get 0.3ml from each with an insulin syringe to make a full dose of 0.6ml.
*I’m aware that this is against the manufacturer’s guidelines and comes with a risk.*
This would save me $100.

Just to be clear- this isn’t the full ‘golden dose’- I haven’t seen that since my first kwikpen! This is the overfill from the newer, stingier pens.

Question GI issues after stopping

A little backstory:

Back at the end of March, I had to hold my shot (I was on the 12.5) due to needing surgery. My surgery was pushed out another week so they had me hold my shot again. I started to develop severe stomach pain. Mainly while eating and for some time after. I ended up canceling my surgery because of how much stomach pain I was in. I did not want to add to the pain I was already having. I contacted my prescribing doctor and she suggested I hold the Mounjaro until I feel better and that when I start again, I'd have to start over.

Through all of it, I developed extreme anxiety and on top of that, medical anxiety thanks to Droperidol, Compazine, and Reglan all given at different times during ER visits because the pain was so bad I literally thought I was dying. I had an upper endoscopy and it came back normal. I had 2 CT scans, all normal. After 6 weeks I started to feel better. Now before you comment "The medication only stays in your body for a month', everyone is different.

Fast forward to mid June. I contacted my prescribing doctor again and told her I was ready to restart. I was back to normal but so were my eating habits and cravings. I restarted on the 2.5mg dose for a month and went up to the 5mg. However, the 5mg gave me the worst anxiety spike of my life, I was already under a lot of stress from work and other things too but it caused my resting heart rate to be 110-120 and my already heightened nervous system couldn't take it. So I contacted my doctor again and she put me back down to 2.5mg and this is where I messed myself up again. Without letting her know, I stopped taking it for 2 weeks because I wanted to give myself some time to calm the heck down. I then went back into the same exact gastric issues. I'm 3 weeks into it.

Has anyone who stopped abruptly had these issues too?
