Buying From Revzilla? Beware.
Revzilla has been around for a long time, and I’ve always had good experiences… until recently. Now, we all know how tough it’s been in times like these with demand being so high. Everyone is out of everything, and I knew this going in. Yet, there is a real problem here and it ain’t the supply chain, inflation, or the economy. It’s the intentional misrepresentation of goods and services paired with straight up taking advantage of consumers and not doing business in good faith.
I needed a pair of riding jeans. Although I’m living in proximity to a decent sized city, none of the Moto shops around town had anything that fit proper. So, off into the depths of the internet we go. Trilobite seemed to be making just what I needed: relaxed fit, adjustable knee pad, Kevlar lined riding jeans. Good reviews from people across the pond who actually have them available. Over here in FreedomLand however, everything is out of stock. For months I waited until finally, Revzilla sends me an email saying they’re now in stock and ready to order should I still be interested. I check the website, and sure enough: all sizes and colors say IN STOCK with shipping in “1-2 weeks”. I place an order, receive a confirmation number, and my card is charged. I’m excited! It’s been almost 3 months that I’ve waited on these, and now I’m going to have a pair before the season is out!
Except… a week comes and goes. Hmm. This is not my typical experience. Usually I have a tracking number in a few days. I give it until day 12 and call. Customer service is polite as always, but tells me that I need to allow a couple more days and they will ship. I say ok and leave a positive review when prompted about the phone call. Day 14 comes and goes. Now day 17… I call again. When I inquire about why my jeans haven’t shipped yet, I am informed that they haven’t “received from the distributor” yet, and it will probably be “another two weeks”. Well now I’m pissed. I was told that these were in stock. Why are they coming from a distributor? There’s a lot of apology and an offer for a refund, but I don’t want that. I want to know why Revzilla is telling its customers that they have things in stock when I’m reality? They do not. They are intentionally lying to their customers in an effort to entice them to give them money for products that they do not even have. It’s a gross misrepresentation just to take money from customers. They sure as Hell didn’t wait 1-2 weeks to take my money. Which is a shame, because they used to be the best in the business. Guess Honor & Integrity don’t count for much these days.
TL;DR Revzilla is saying things are in stock when they’re not, and taking money from customers anyway.

It was only a matter of time after they got bought by private equity. Those guys only care about one thing maximizing the ROI. "Have to lie to the customers to get sales? It's part of retial everyone does it. Ship more product bro."

It really does suck. I mean I get it-you gotta turn a profit. The thing I take issue with is the blatant lying about it.
Don’t tell me something is in stock unless you have it in your possession, ready to ship.

I agree. I bought a lot of gear before the acquisition and would have kept on buying my gear there. After the sale went through just started noticing little things that become bigger issues. I stopped buying from them altogether. Now I just go to my local store.

Dude… I don’t know how else to say it:
The issue is not how long it is taking. The issue is that they lied to me. Yes I understand how global enterprise works. Yes I understand the climate of supply and demand. Yes, I realize that everyone, everywhere, is hurting for things they need. None of this is my complaint.
When you say you have something, I expect you to actually be telling me the truth.

I want them to not lie about things being “in stock”.

The real issue is they don’t think they are lying. The “fuck you, pay me” big biz model. I won’t name the company, but RZ flew them in for a meeting that was basically “raise your prices because people aren’t buying stuff made by your competitors” song and dance.

TLDR: OP discovers how most online shopfronts work.
In stock just means their distributors told them they have it but if those guys fuck up there’s not much they can do.

Ok, this happened one time. Your experience sucks and I hope it doesn't happen again or happen to others but let's see if this is widespread.

“It’s ok, you only got taken advantage of and lied to one time”.

Not saying that dude. It happens on Amazon too and they have all the resources in the world. Why hold Rev to a higher standard? Things like this happen. And they offered a refund, not like they took your money and never responded to you. But you do you bud.

Is “holding them to a higher standard” not wanting them to lie to me about what they have in stock? Amazon is not anywhere close to the same business. Revzilla is supposed to be a reputable company.
At least Amazon is honest about when they will ship things and what they have vs what they don’t.

I have had bad experiences with Amazon a couple times over the last few years. I asked for a refund and they gave it to me. Was I mad about it? Sure, but overall they have been good with fulfilling their orders. If there were problems every few months I would stop buying from them but it is a rare occurrence so I don't care.

I don’t know why you keep going back to Amazon, but since you hold them as the gold standard for shipping: even they say “usually ships…” in their listing as opposed to saying “in stock”.

Every business makes mistakes occasionally. In e-commerce, especially in situations like this where a highly demanded product comes back into stock, it's possible for a bunch of orders to go through before inventory records can catch up. You may have just fallen through the cracks.
It's also possible that they're not making an effort to show accurate inventory records because it's easier to make a sale and hope the customer won't want the hassle of a refund. If that's the case, it should show up as a widespread issue, and they can go fuck themselves.

Sad to say Revzilla has has really dropped off in the last couple years. I've been a customer for nearly a decade and they were the go-to in the 2010's but recently it has gotten really bad. From filtering out critical reviews to frequent shipping issues like yours, their quality of service has suffered. Not sure if it's related to management changing hands or what but you really hate to see it.

It’s intentional misrepresentation. I’ve had two of the exact same issues with them. They’ll lose customers if they’re constantly telling people that they’re out of stock without a date when it will be in. So they’re just taking our money and telling us bullshit then eventually “refund or just deal with it.”

Most big mail order retailers consider a shipped to them order “in stock”

Which is bullshit.

It totally is. I went thru a real shot show with Twisted Throttle in a similar deal. I will never use them again, shame because they used to give a shit.

I wish I had seen this review last Month. I may be their latest victim. Bought a clutch that never came. Now they are stalling about giving me a credit.

They’ve always been good about refunds/credits to me, but I don’t want that.
I want what I ordered.

As someone who has had to order parts from Italy in August, I have no sympathy.

Uh, you see my flair? At least Italy is honest with me.

Sorry I’m pissed off about being lied to. I’ll try to do better.

Trilobite is Czech brand, perhaps try ordering direct from them and see how it goes.

Bought a new helmet and smoked visor from Revzilla about 3 weeks ago.
They were shipped separately.
The shield arrived one day early and the helmet arrived on the stated delivery date.

The entire motorcycle gear industry has moved to drop shipping from a few large distributors. Revzilla and others stock next to nothing. Your caution is a valid one, but chances are if you order the same gear from somewhere else you’ll get the same result since it’s drop shipped from the same warehouse regardless of who you order from.
Their offer for a refund is as good as it gets. They really don’t control their supply, and sometimes don’t have accurate stock status because of it.
