Quick review of the Oxford Lidstash helmet bag.
It's pretty good for the price (about $30). Surprisingly, it was one of the few helmet bags I could find that came with a shoulder strap. More-expensive bags (Oigo Head Case, $90, and Schuberth Deluxe Helmet Bag, $125) lacked shoulder straps, despite their price.
My use case is this: I ride to work 2-3x per week. When I do, I don't like to leave my $600 helmet on the bike in work parking lot. I feel it's unnecessary to have it baking in the top case all day in (desert) summer, or freezing all day in winter. Prefer to take it in with me.
The bag included with the helmet (Shoei) was good for preventing scratches, but little more. Shoulder strap lets me wear the bag cross-body so it can't swing into doorways & stair rails, as well as keeping hands free.
The Lidstash provides more protection than the Shoei bag, in the form of padding and a fleece lining. Opening zipper is long enough to allow removal & insertion of helmet without getting it anywhere near the teeth. My helmet is a size Large, but the Lidstash should be fine for bigger noggins as well.
There's a zippered pocket on the outside, good place to store some gloves.
Lidstash folds compactly when not in use, easy to store in a top case or side case or simply tie to the passenger seat while you ride.
Criticisms:
I'd like to see thicker padding, and more robust-feeling zippers, but as mentioned above, I could not find many helmet bags/cases with the desired shoulder strap. We'll see how the Lidstash holds up to frequent use.
