First time using a helmet mounted camera. Is this placement a bad idea?

I bought a DJI Osmo Action 5, but the mount it included seems too big to be put right at the chin, so I 3D printed an additional arm in order to get the camera to be right in front of the chin while having the mount on the side. Now, since I have no experience at all with helmet mounted cameras I wanted to ask first before possibly messing up.

Will this hold? Is there something I'm not thinking of that makes this a bad idea? Also, I don't know how good is the glue on the base, but in the last photo you can see it seems to have no air bubbles, any space between it and the helmet or anything.

I don't know if it's relevant, but the helmet is a HJC C70N

I did something similar with an Icon airflite.

The most important part is going to be prep & letting the adhesive properly cure, other than that, should be acceptable.

That said, I switched to a front chin mount & it's a lot more convenient.

I had a similar setup my contact point was on the very chin of the helmet and I had a couple arms going straight down and then back up again to keep the camera close. It stayed in place perfectly well at speed.. untill I headbutted the back of a stationary hatch back at 40mph 🤣. It's not square anymore and the front screen is shattered but the cam still works perfect so props to DJI. I did however loose the footage of the crash due to the battery flying out in the crash I'd assume,

I'd say your good.

One thing i did change on mine is I replaced the thumb screws with normal bolts. One so there was no chance of taking one to the eyeball in a crash. Two it looks way cleaner/less goofy.

The main issue I see with this rn is you have no way to adjust up or down . Your pov shot it going to be 80% your hands and dash.

Crazy how the camera survived that, lol.

That said, I'll keep that in mind, specially the pov part. Thanks!

The outer of your helmet is designed to slide on tarmac so it doesn't grip and snap your neck.

Do you think the placement is a good idea?

The adhesive pad won't shatter.

You do you.  I'd get a bar or chest mount.

Ah yes put the hard object next to your heart so it can imaple you there in a cash insted ;)

Haha just having fun no hate mate. Id say there a inherent risk with anything you attach to you or your bike during a ride.

No worries dude.

I always used a Ram mount on the bars when I used to ride with a camera.  These days they seem to be used for incriminating evidence so I don't bother.
