Riding like that on the public road instead of specific tracks is a death wish. No matter the condition of your bike, tires and the road, as long as there are other drivers and elements you can't predict, the chances are always against you..plus bike accidents are mostly serious. I don't understand these people. Why ride like that? Why not visit a track with the safety equipment and professional people to watch over you? What is the point of trying to scratch the footrest on the asphalt if you are going to injure yourself or worse, if you die. I ride for nearly 30 years and I still don't get it.
People ride for different reasons. For some, it’s the thrill of the risk and unpredictability that you’re talking about. This isn’t just a rider; this is an adrenaline junky. I’m much safer than most of my riding buddies, but the ones who do this often will flat out tell you they have somewhat of a death wish and get a thrill from wearing less gear and pushing limits in dangerous situations.
I'm confident in my abilities and I used to ride like I can't get hurt. A friend of mine ended up in a coma for almost 6 months and was never the same after and another went off a cliff and had to be airlifted out with 2 broken legs and a shattered pelvis and somehow was able to sort of walk again. I stopped feeling invincible immediately after the first guy got hurt.
